Hi I am back after a few ages away and was wondering I remember in the past someone ran a high BE low draft Strat. With the building effects caps at 20 times base do you think its possible to be a decent attacking Province with moderate draft or will it be same old 70% draft. BTW I am dwarf
I'd say same old 65-70 is better anyway. A high BE, moderate army strat can work good (because you`ll have better economy, various bonuses from buildings) but you will lack military power. It is up to you if you can live with it.
Having lower draft never gives you better military numbers.
The only real cap to draft is income - wages which is a lot lot lower than offence modifiers dropping from BE.
my dwarf on genesis is running 65% draft with 107% BE, with no tools science.
wow, why wouldn't you use tools sci? that's a natural choice for a dwarf! the benefit is multiplied, not added. So if you had enough points for a 10% increase in BE, you would see a 10.7% increase at 107% BE (bringing you to 114.7%)
dump 1 days' worth of points and it'll be totally worth it.
As per the original question:
Yes, lower draft and higher BE can be a good thing.
- if you rely heavily on your buildings for modifiers to your military strength (say 15-20% each in TG and forts), you might find that at a certain draft, the military size benefit is dwarfed by the BE-caused deficit. This of course depends on many factors, so I can't give any numbers
- if you think in terms of off/nw and def/nw instead of raw power, you will find the break even point is even lower
- during a war situation, all the rules change. off and def per acre or per nw are irrelevant. If you are in a situation where you can break those who you need to break, there is no reason to increase military size (maintaining it is fine)
- you must maintain a balance between military size and growth. If you have no income because you are overpumped, you are great today, but not looking good 2 weeks from now.
Once you sci pump, if you are having to waste space on banks, you should be considering lowering your draft. Use pes for income (lowering NW) and build more TG/Fort instead (maintaining much of your lost military power).
Disclaimer - as a human, I never need banks in my war strat. Other races may still need a small %. Lower draft can be quite strong, but there is clearly a "too low" spot where you start getting killed.

High BE might not be worth it. A standard attacker is at about 80-85 BE once properly pumped. What you lose in military strength to achieve that BE will end up screwing you up in the end in most situations.
Yeah I was thinking in the old days you could take the science as high as you could afford at 12 GC a point. So you could by mid age have a decent BE though I think it was actuality called Utilty at that time. Been a while but what you would do is have a n insane rate and use the Mods to Pump your troops. I think Draft was 50-55%. Util was in the 70% and Rax boosted booth speed and offensive hitting power I think. Also no cap on % of buildings. Probally 10-20 ages some where in the teens
It use to, I mean at one point you could run 50-55% draft with high BE and the boost to ME from payrate and draftrate you could run the same offense and defense per nw as other provinces who ran 65-70% draft with lower BE.Quote:

It was one of the worst minor changes to the game as far as strategic methods go. makes most people play one style instead of having multiple styles of attackers available.

Lower Draft is never an economic/military advantage now, the only benefit is you are better at growing through exploration while maintaining the same draft.
i run 70% draft on gen on my dwarf and have 128% BE...you sir are doing something wrong :PQuote:

i run 10%, but then again, people seem to really enjoy kidnapping my pezzies...
i blame this on their annoyance at trying to win a retal war against a dwarf/warrior with 20% GS, 15% gains sci and fog
