not really, USA's tb is irrelevant - china can never collect on it as they cant afford to screw their cash cow.

Welll I am a Redneck from the woods. but unlike those cheese eating surrender monkeys we don't build a wall around our citys and forget to defend from the rear... we just dilute our forces all of the world and try to help everyone. and if that is wrong for us to stick our noses in everyone elses bussiness yes but we have been doing it for years and if you notice when some other country calls for help... who is it that answers first. The USA.. take chilles mining that an american company designed and built the drill that saved all those miners lives did that because they wanted to... and that country doesnt like us and we save their miners lives... which company did that... ??? any one tell me their names??? no cause if you did see that you would of seen after they where out of their holes the company that saved them was forced out of Chille.... what a way to say thanks...
"and try to help everyone."
LOL. Altruist help, right?
Ikr...that's why i don't like a lot of people....they're too arrogant to ask for help when they need it. and yes, i am definately one of those people...and i'm also a wv hillbilly...and I'm proud!!!!!!!
You know what I don't get is that ratings agency S&P. They say the U.S. was downgraded because of the political spectrum (like Rep and Dem squabbling over the debt ceiling). They take that as politically unstable. I really don't get that. So U.S. is AA+ because it is deemed politically unstable and yet the Netherlands is AAA because supposedly it is politically stable. Have these idiots even met Rutte and Wilders? Particularly Wilders makes the Tea Party look like small potatoes.
Why didn't they just say it's the trade balance? Because the Dutch TB is positive whereas the U.S. TB is negative.
I think that as long as wilders gets to demonize islam and demand more money for the "hard working dutch labourer" he'll be happy. He's not too hard to see through. He's definitely not harmless, but if some african immigrants get killed because of his rethorics it is not expected to have a big influence on the economy.
Tea-Party on the other hand seem more erratic and no one knows what they'll do next. Would they really have let the U.S. slide into insolvency if obama hadn't conceded ? It seems unlikely but sadly not completely unimaginable anymore.
That's really what "political stability" only means in this context. The ability of global players to deduce how a goverment is likely to act so they can manage their investments accordingly.
China will soon impose sanctions and let the US turn on itself... then they will create super Communist Alliance and invade for US natural resources like oil.
To the communists out there.... (even though your not allowed to read public fourms like this).... please leave Canada alone when you invade USA
Edit: gojet that was quite the rant, I agreed with the amoutn of it I could read before I went crosseyed.
@ the guy who said sumthin about emus... I also agree, emus suck
pretty much all chinas money comes from the US - you dont shoot the golden goose, even if it is ****ting on the carpet.
I say we default, send a memo out to all countries that we will be going nomad iso for the next 20 years.
Let the world rip itself apart during that time.
Anyone who attacks us or uses terrorism against us during that time we DNA and destroy the country they came from.
We'll pick up the pieces after our hiatus.
I guess you won't be needing a car when you go nomad.
Isn't America's debt more owed to the American people than other countries? I mean, it's a government debt, is it not?
China could cash in, and it would weaken the American economy, but I doubt it would be as heavy as people think.
Actually China only owns about 10% of U.S. debt. Another big chunk is owned by Japan and Germany (the two combined own about 20% of U.S. debt). If you look at particular banks, after Chinese State Bank, Deutsche Bank is probably the biggest owner of U.S. debt.
Other smaller owners of U.S. debt, but nevertheless significant owners of U.S. debt are:
Russia
Taiwan
Luxembourg
Switzerland
Canada
Brazil
I reckon those 6 own another 20% of the U.S. debt.
Yet smaller debt owners are:
Egypt
Israel
Singapore
Malaysia
Phillipines
Thailand
Italy
Turkey
Norway
Sweden
the Netherlands
France
Belgium
Poland
India
Columbia
Mexico
Chile
And Oh for some irony here...
...last but not least, there are some Caribbean banking centres that own a small chunk of U.S. debt. Apparently Uncle Sam has no qualms of dealing with banks that largely operate as tax havens... so yeah in that sense the portion that comes from some American citizens, albeit in an indirect way, is probably bigger then you expect.
btw this list also tells you why the Obama administration was so passive about reprimanding Mubarak from Egypt, because his clique owns U.S. debt. People think it was because of oil, but that is nonsense.
The overall picture does show, that the vast majority of U.S. debt is in the hands of foreign banks though. So if the interest rate goes up, it will affect you! That's why the Tea party is so incredibly irresponsible, because their doings only worsen the economic situation for the U.S. The only sensible thing to do for American voters who worry about their jobs at the moment is not to vote Republican, especially not Tea party representatives, because then you know, you only end up screwing yourselves over.
on a further note..
In general you could say that from whoever you bought your car, your television, your computer, your shoes and clothing, your beef, your livestock feed is also your largest owner of your debt.
..or to put it in simpler words... luxury consumption creates debt!
...and then I haven't mentioned the illegal stuff that goes into the U.S. ;)
any of the illegalities and addictives that you consume is also a great debt creator. The five biggies here are:
beer (Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany)
whiskey (United Kingdom)
cocaine (Columbia)
heroine (Thailand)
prostitutes (Phillipines, India)
oh and it doesn't help to buy American here, because what you think is American, is in fact actually often in foreign hands. This is especially true for things like beer.
