anyone still go to UT to roleplay?
no one in Utopia Talk ever roleplayed seriously. We try and better our writing proficiency. They just.... well... act like morons.
Hey everybody,
After a good 4 month break I've got that familiar itch to start writing again. I'm still on vacation, currently in Amman, Jordan, but will be back in Canada on the 26th and I figure, even if I can't start anything now, might as well get ideas formulating.
Doesn't seem like anyone else is going to be putting up anything new, so I figure I might as well try to come up with something. That said, I'd rather start a thread that will be interesting for the majority. Was wondering what kind of thread people would want?
My short list, although please feel free to bring forth more suggestions:
- Sci Fi
- Airship Fantasy (bring back Endless?)
- Harry Potter
- Futuristic Deus Ex type Conspiracy/Tech
- An Original Gundam / Mech Warrior
Hope to hear from some of you soon ^_^
Yay Geco!! good idea and looking forward to your return
Airship fantasy :) has my vote
I'll cast my vote for Airship Fantasy for where it goes; welcome back Geco 8).
Well bah I was gonna say 1, 3, or maybe 4/5 ><
Also, the new HP movie was disappointing. Just sayin >.>
I'm still lurking.
My vote goes for Airship Fantasy (though maybe a complete change of setting from Endless Skies?) OR Harry Potter. But let's face it - anything you just listed is awesome.
I've got a Bleach thread in the late-planning-almost-ready-to-go stages if anyone is interested.
Well of course I would probably join the others as well, but I think I prefer some Airship Fantasy :)
LK - I do agree with that statement... :( Too bad... I still enjoyed it, but it felt a bit like a "middle in between movie" if you get what I mean... leading up to the grand finale in the next 2 movies.
It did kind of feel like nothing actually progressed, and that a lot of important plot stuff got thrown out in favour of watch-the-characters-do-characterish-things. And every love subplot felt kind of heavy handed. I don't know, I didn't find it offensively bad or anything (don't get me started on Transformers 2) but it certainly left me feeling very much underwhelmed.
Yeah I agree... I just re-read the book, and it is so much better... but, I still enjoyed it.. but definetely a bit underwhelmed.
Sorry peeps, I moved places where I'm staying and have no internet for the week.
Glad to see so much interest in anything, haha, guess there's a craving for something new eh?
My initial thought was almost to pick up where Endless left off, with a few plot alterations. Endless was a bit more on the serious side though, which I like ^_^ but we could try something different for sure. More free and fun? More adventurous? More magical? What are people thinking?
I think a free, fun, magical adventure to put it lightly. *laughs*
I'm aware that's not helpful. I guess when I think of airship fantasy I can't help thinking of fantastic pulp style adventure. Swashbuckling sky pirates and dangeous quests of exotic locales for hidden treasure, that sort of thing.
I'm up for anything though, serious or less so, Endless derived or not. As much fun as it can be to continue on from a previous plotline, making something more original can give people the opportunity to explore something new and I think would also be a lot less intimidating to people lurking around who might not have played in any of the other Endless threads.
Feel free to tell me if I'm crazy.
My vote is for a new story-arc. If people want to re-use their characters from Endless, sure, but after such a slow time here on the boards I think it's time for something new and fresh, rather than to kick-start an old thread.... :)
serious or not.. well I kinda like serious...with a little bit of fun ;)
but I dunno, maybe this board needs something light and funny for a change? dunno dunno...
^_^ Thanks for input guys. I think lighter and funner it is, and new of course. Also, I think increase activity we need to increase frequency of posts, which means, less emphasis on long ass posts, and more short to middle length posts in greater frequency. It keeps the excitement I think. So, I'll start working on something. I'm keeping Gabe and Sephara, I loved how those 2 turned out.
As for Harry Potter, I've been saying this since teh 4th movie, although the 5th was where you could really see it, but there is simply no way to take a 700 page book and make it a 2 hr movie. This one was the same. You watched and it felt so rushed. It was like they had to jump from one thing to the next and left you no time to enjoy. Plus, they can't go in depth on anything, so it's all surface.
That said, given how hard the task was, I thought they did a good job. Plus, Ginny finally got to speak after 5 movies, which was nice to see ^_^
On HP
Yes, that's very true, and I think that it was an incredibly smart choice to break up the 7th movie. I mean it's one thing to shorten the others, but the 7th has practically nothing that can be left out. So, yeah, I think the 7th movie(s) are going to be a lot better. At least, they shoulder be >.> Also, 2.5 hours each ^.^
The love stuff was crap, and they should have just left it out. Honestly I liked the 5th better than this one, and the people that rave about the 6th are just crazy fans and ****. Seriously, it wouldn't have been that hard to have made this one better.
And... oh... God... I was trying to resist but I can't. Here's the three things that REALLY irritated me:
1) Can someone please tell me WHEN Bellatrix attacked the Burrow? Seriously, I watched that entire scene going 'THE **** IS THIS ****?!' Why the hell would you add that? It added zero value to the movie whatsoever!
2) The Astronomy Tower. Really, we've all read it so I don't need to say anything. But I will ^.^ First off, the whole 'Harry hide under the floor!' was ridiculous. How hard was it to stay true to the book? Granted there was no Invisibility Cloak BUT they could have had Harry frozen in darkness so he wasn't seen still. But, anyways. So then we have Harry watching Draco aka THE KID HE PRACTICALLY HATES about to kill Dumbledore. Why the hell wouldn't he have done anything sooner? Yes, he made a promise, but that's a pretty weak reason. Moving on we have Snape appear out of nowhere and tell Potter to stay quiet and he goes up top. ... *rubs temples* Why would Harry listen to Snape? I think that's it. I'm tired lol
3) The entire castle exit scene. Just... wtf. No big battle? Seriously. Really. Are you kidding me? I felt cheated D: And the HarryxSnape dialogue at the end sucked ><
Anyways, I'm out lol
Really have me not wanting to see it. Was it worth the money atleast?
I would say to go see it, but just for the sake of seeing it. Let me put it this way:
If you ignore the books totally it was a good movie, it's when you compare it that it goes down in 'value'. Granted that goes for most movies, but for the HP series I think this was the worst.
I don't know about that. I was sooooooo disappointed with the "Lord of the Rings" Movies. The inaccuracies were to numerous to count. And, Having read the books too many times to count, my friends at the theatre said I was grumbling the whole time at each.
See, in the case of LotR the inaccuracies didn't bug me as much because they were done for the sake of condensing three huge novels into three movies and for the sake of presentation of the story.
A lot of important plot stuff got left out of HP6 though while scenes like the attack on the Burrow (BUT GUYS, LOOK, EXPLOSIONS) were added in or other scenes were chopped around. Was there any reason Ginny and Harry needed one brief kiss in the Room of Requirement instead of him kissing her at the end of his high on Felix Felicitous in the common room?
I can sense a wall of text trembling behind my eyelids as I struggle not to rant too much on the movie, so I'll just summarize. If, like me, you feel each successive Harry Potter movie has gotten worse (except for Goblet of Fire which was pretty great), then believe me, this is the worst yet.
P.S. You know what? I honestly don't remember -anything- about the fifth movie other than the crappy apparating battle (HEY THEY'RE SMOKE! AWESOME! </sarcasm>) in the Department of Mystery.
P.P.S. Why can I no longer type out HP without wanting to immediately add Lovecraft on the end of it?
on the thought of Endless airship thing, one word: Conan-ish. :)
in an airship sort of fashion. none of this final fantasy stuff... ;) I think what made the first VotS really good too was taht it was like the ocean... but in the air. :)
Guess I'll just wait for a decent bootleg then. Or for it to pop up on joox. Got around to the books after I saw the movies so they've never been much of a problem. :\ Except when I notice how gully the Dursleys(sp?) were in the book. Could've been something special on the screen.
Never cared much of LoTR. Books or movies. But, Mordor: Depths of Dejenol, holds a special place in me.
While we're on books. Anybody got any audiobook suggestions? Or podcast series?
Hmmm I wonder, is it bad sport to advertise another site here?
Blue Moon Roleplaying Forums
It's a more adult culture, 18 and over ONLY. Mostly due to sexual content, though as far as I am concerned the site does not strictly deal with sexual content. It's more because there is adult RPing they need to weed out minors.
Nice base, damn interesting people. And there's a chatbox =D
Anyways, if you wanna join just list vampire seduction in the referred by section ^.^
Check it out, but damnit don't forsake this place!
Also, who is interested in continuing Furious? Just wanted to get a new count going.
Put my reply in the thread.
Just curious if anyone else out there was still thinking about creating any new threads. I have quite a bit of time at the moment, of course it won't last, but I'd like to play in something else as well. Just in case anyone was considering but wasn't sure if they'd get a turnout, you have 1 ^_^
*Climbs out from under a pile of papers*
"Dammit Jim, im a writer not a geneticist! Why must you insist on making me do this Thesis on cancer research?"
"I'm not Jim, and you signed up for this, its not my fault"
Anyway, im off and on the boards, Vice and Virtue is being written personally now, though slowly due to RL. As for a airship type thread, im not 100% sure what that entails but would be willing to make a character.
I was wondering however, about a road movie type thread (though fantasy in slant) involving serious distance travel to new places/worlds/continents/times? giving each of the players a chance to take the GM lead if people get stuck for ideas or become too busy, a different person could have a continent/ect and throw the plot for that at us, followed by moving to another?
What do people think?
little open ended for my pallet at the moment.
Semi to fully GMed Vampire: the Requiem. Interest?
Clarification upon further thought:
Semi-GMed (Definite setting, plot and character restrictions) but no stats, because I think making it essentially a play-by-post game will exclude people who don't actually play nWoD/VtR and our community is so small at the moment that making niche games is counter-productive.
Also, unfamiliarity with Vampire the Requiem ends up being a bonus, because then you can really play the confused neonate who woke up one night Embraced...
What's going on, why am I so thirsty and why does that staggering drunk in that alley look delicious...
hehe well I'm always up for a good vamp thread, however know nothing bout the Requiem :)
Yeah, same here. I'm nearly always up for vampire RPs :3
I've heard good things about Req, wouldn't mind at least learning more
I generally have no interest in Vamps, but whatevers ^_^
Mike >> the airship thread is kinda what you are talking about, but a bit more controlled. I have a big over arching quest in mind, made up of a bunch of mini quests, but essentially involves going to new places and exploring. At times - and yes I have already thought of some ways to do this - I'll msg players and tell them what I'd like, but leave it up to them, thus, they become the GM for something. Also, asking for sideplots is on my agenda too. If you want to join, throw up a char sheet and once I approve, start posting. 1 note, if you do, please make the person already a member of the crew, or, you'll have to wait til we're at our next local to join.
Thanks.
Sorry for the minor delay everyone, best friend called Monday and we've been spending a lot of time doing stupid stuff like when we were kids, e.g. playing video games for a long time ^_^ Will get back to work tomorrow.
geco cheers, i read skysail after i put that prev post up, but that was exactly the kinda thread i was talking about.
Thrown a character sheet up, will starting posting as soon as you ok.
Well it's been a long time..... Not many things to jump into :(
In the dark boreal forest of the far north, something disturbs the leafy undergrowth. There is no wind, no woodland creature and no freak geological activity. If one was standing close, they would catch the rank scent of perpetual inactivity. With agonizing meticulousness, life stirs beneath the decaying forest floor. In a quick flurry a head and tangled mass of limbs vaguely resembling something human emerges from a festering hole. The shivering, unrecognizable form stretches and sniffs the air. It is curious, and considers its options. This is not the first time this shattered beast of a man crawled out of the shadows - and perhaps this time it will choose to reintegrate itself into society. For the moment it watches. It waits.
Sorry everyone. I'm getting some extra cash by working at a women's golf tournament bartending. It sucks the energy out of me having to be nice and wear a smile all day haha. Last day is tomorrow, and I'll try to move our story along then, if not, Monday for sure.
Sorry for the lull.
Hey can I join in this I've got no idea wat 2 do though?
oh don't be a girl Marc. :) My wife does bartending and she gets a kick out of it. She's not even remotely a social being.
lol
and Zed, yes. Yes you CAN join. All you need to do is fill out the character sheet near the beginning of this thread. I suggest being a member of the crew already, as we are already in the air and it would be hard to "Retropost" you in, and uneccessary.
HOWEVER I am not the GM ( Game Master ) of the thread, so I cannot say yes or no. Either way, the first step would be to make a character sheet and then hear back from Geco, who IS the GM.
Good luck my friend. ;) Although, I think his answer most happily will be yes. Look at the other character sheets to see what jobs have been taken and how you can fit in. ;)
Umm I was told not to do pure Ooc post in skysail so yeh im doin it here you can't stop me
@ geco I agree the quality and size of posts is much much better but im afraid you may not be able to expect that of me yet and but I am getting better if you want to see visit the website and thread I told you bout and bear in mind I only started rp less than a week ago. And can we have a recap on how many enemies are left:-)
@ new person soz forgot your name welcome and I have an ide for your joining the game when we finish the battle and we need to land for repairs ?
I'll be a girl whenever I damn well please Jer =P I had no problems with the bartending, I actually enjoyed it, it just was very fast paced and sucked energy out of me. Keep in mind, it was an LPGA event so there were a lot of people fond of the drink ^_^
NFL season starts tonight!!!
welcome back Phoenix!
