For some reason you want everyone to be able to compete without having to work for it? It took loads of time to build the kingdoms that are in the top, and it takes time to build the relations that they have in the top. If you don't want to put in the effort, then fight at a lower level. You don't have to compete at the top to have fun. I have friends in FREE that enjoy their wars in the warring tier of the game, and have won all but 1 out of their last 22 wars.

I think probably the biggest weight on why new people don't stick is because this game is a very slow game. Not many people can see the fun when it takes weeks to develop anything substantial, and especially if it is ripped from their hands in one chain, they just say F it and run off for some other game. This game can't be made easier. Everyone has access to the same things, its just wether people want to invest the time to learn and grow... in 2000 a game like this was pretty revolutionary. In 2014, in a world of instant gratification, not many care for the grinding type of game this is. Its a niche game and will continue to be as people trickle in and out of retirement mostly for nostalgic purposes *points to self*

Cowing has nothing to do with the current state of the game AT ALL and it only effects a few kingdoms. Any mechanic changes trying to limit cowing is just retarded. The only good pool mechanic change implemented was taking diced acres from pool so kds no longer need to dice oow all age and be bored.

Making kingdoms too small will hurt the game even further because there is a lack of leadership, making more kds means there wont be enough leaders to run them which is the primary reason for kds disbanding. Dropping kd size down to 20 would be helpful as it makes replenishment easier but that's as far down as id go.

Other issue is this is a text based game so it's not going to grow much when people have xbox, ps, and computer games.

People who claim cows don't ruin the game are really either joking or simply playing cows themselves.

The whole problem with utopia is that the more time you spend at the top the less chances for any competition to outmanouver you. No new kingdoms with activity or skill can actually compete with a kingdom that has been significantly larger for the whole age.

And they most certainly can't get cows up even if they are well organised, active and skillful. They will just get hit down.

Having a game where activity, leadership and competition is rewarded is the way to go.
Not stagnation, being bigger than every other kingdom, blocking others from actually fighting their best.

If you can't realize that it's what kills the game then get a reality check.
This game is almost set after 1-2 first weeks. Even though things happen due to "others" being lame, by denying crown to the "real winners".....

Competition needs to be rewarded, not hammered down. Any new kindgdom that can get the activity up and that has skills should be able to compete at least within a reasonable time and not troughout 1-3 ages before they even get enough recognition to actually get a CF deal.

If you want to compete, you should learn how to compete...

You don't have to run cows to compete.

Also you response earlier as to how someone who is new to the game is to be able to respond to being hit is to find someone else who can hit back...... Are you serious? So the point of playing a war game is to find someone else to hit for you? good lord.....

if a kingdom can make useful cows then more power to them.

it's pretty sad when a kingdom can explore and fort up immediately oop, wind up in top 10 land after a week while trying to avoid further growth. just saying...

forcing all kingdoms to 20 players would go a long way towards levelling the ghettofication that has taken place. right now the 20prov kingdoms can never hope to fight a 25prov kingdom on even terms, which sucks horribly and has all sorts of metagame implications. it's not going to happen though.

Yeh right, that's why every T10 kd has cows, and that's why they spend entire ages defending them and doing everything they can to keep them as big as possible. Because they are not needed.

That's also why kingdoms sacrifice their core to get big cows, just because they aren't needed.

It makes me sad that people really not wanting to make anything diffrent and better, but just run in old circles every day, feeling safe that nothing changes.

This is a strategy game. The best way to kill someone is the way that doesn't involve blood getting on your hands.

As I said up there, Cows are the dominate strategy atm. That doesn't mean they're necessary to compete.


You guys should try thinking outside the box now and then. You might like it.

most of the server can't afford to put up cows... wsk was able to defeat a kingdom with two cows this age, and those cows had time to prepare.

a lot of cow issues come from the diplomacy involved in kingdoms that can raise them. even then, what does it matter? if cows are a dominant strategy then it should compel kingdoms to work towards being able to raise their own, use strategies and setups to counter cows, or change the diplomacy metagame so that raising cows isn't so easy.
