I must say it is a fun war to watch. Hipmunks have closed a 1.6 million nw deficit to 750k at the time of this post. As someone privy to the intel I can see potential win conditions for both sides.
It's definitely still an uphill battle for the hipmunks, but not as much as it once was.
^^^^^^^^This guy knows whats up.
Neglect kills. Nothing more, nothing less.

Everybody gets a chance to run what they like. The real reason few ran avian before was because they didn't understand the mechanic. It's obvious because when avians have been boosted in past ages I'd see kingdoms misuse them or burnout.
The mechanic look like crap on paper most ages, but I've seen and used them to great effect. Essentially, every age the avian is a hunter-killer that can take out any other attacker race combination one-on-one, reliably. The retort is usually something like "kingdoms play as a team, not one on one" and "a core of avians can't do such and such". These statements are true in a vacuum if we assume the avian isn't using it's prowess as a team, and avian is a core compliment most ages: not a full core race. This age is an exception.
Avians at maximum utility are impractical for the majority of Utopian core players because at full spectrum they require very high activity. If we could experiment and I could switch great t/m players for an avian complimentary core and relay tap.... with the additional non-avian core attackers, you might see how blitzkrieg functions in a game environment.
Consider avian in the roll of panzer. They can take a great deal in a short period of time. Strategically these objectives should not only include acres but resources, such as honor and science, along with destructive razes, massacres. This is in essence slashing the enemy lines without over penetrating. In our case, getting fat. Killers(non-avian)open with veritable air support(mystics) and sabotage to cut off enemy support. This is your spearhead.
Unbeknown to our greater community is what are known as heavy attackers. I play one a lot. These are your durable acre holding attackers. Their utility is in their versatility. The heavy attackers first job is to open attacks on a wide front to pressure the enttire enemy core. They also smash enemies lined up to smash your killers. These are your flanks. It's here where I advocate the use of GS: it's not that you're invulnerable, it's that the enemy must take further steps to get back what they've lost. Time and objectives. If they concentrate on you then a they must let something else go.
What the strategy is, and I'm privy to Emeriti super core, is to destroy the enemy core quickly enough to turn full attention to the enemy t/m compliment. In turn you're trying to prevent your core from losing vital capability. This is partly why the heavy attackers job is to retain acres, to retain defense, to stem the enemies counter balance in a chaining slugfest. They must be capable of digging out any core attacker dragged down in the exchange. This is established through nw zone/gap supremacy.
You won't destroy the enemies offense. What your doing is exercising nw leverage. You retain defense and nw so that even with superior offense the enemies range is hampered and defense gutted to the point of non-rebuildable. Thus, a heavy attacker can send land defense attacks south while sending punishing offenses north to the enemy t/ms. all the while the avian core compliment has been on a seek and destroy mission. They keep the enemy numbers from ganging up on stray provinces and further the nw gap faster than the heavy attacker. The heavy attacker role is to maintain and widen the gap till it is unopposable.
But that's just a theory ;-)
Up to whenever you WD, so feel free to talk amongst yourselves on when that is.
Looks like Ascension killed a second province in WO. By the looks of things they have the clear lead retaking the #1 honor spot having a million Nw and 8k acres over WO
