oh sweet! When I seen roleplaying in the utopia forums, I didn't think it would be filled with some well written short stories.
I think we might be getting new blood, eh?
Transfusion almost complete... ;)
lol. ^_-
And I will be sure to use you as well, Geco, whenever I finish my book and want to get it published. ^_^
I can only assume you're about to jump into Skysail, Mireldeyn :D
Ya no kidding, if you're going to use my new found influence the least you could do is join my thread ^_^
In all honesty, the company I work for is very small, we're publishing 12 books only in 2010 and they are all trade paperbacks (meaning the print runs are for about 3000 copies). It's called Edge SF & Fantasy Publishing / Tesseract Books (2 companies in 1 =P) Here's the link: http://www.edgewebsite.com/index.php
Punk > I wasn't sure if your post was subtle mockery or genuine interest. If genuine, forgive my cynicism, we're used to random jabs at our chosen hobby.
I wish I had the time...that's one of the reasons I haven't even been on here recently. I had a day of boredom, tho, when (for once! It is a miracle!) when I had nothing due, no work to go to, and no class. I was excited. ^_^ So I decided to say hi to some old friends on here.
If I do end up having some more free time, and can get on here, I would love to start posting again. I miss URP!!! *cries*
^_-
You work for a publishing house Geco? That's cool, man, so do I. What do you do?
tons of congraulations Geco :)
Congrats, Geco. You're so fortunate to get your dream job; I'm envious.
How is everyone? I'm back... well, kind of. I can't join or create (ha) any threads for now because I'm starting a new job in December and I want to see how busy I'll be before committing to anything. But I'll be reading along.
Hey Sao :)
Good to see you.... and I do hope you get some time to join our small remaining group here....
Everything is good, but my schedule with work, training and everything else is crazy at the moment. hope it settles down soon so I can focus on my writing... :)
I hope you do, too.
I've not written anything in a year. I'm trying to do NaNoWriMo now, but I can't seem to. It's like trying to walk again after being bedridden for ages.
Sao!! *pounces* Welcome back, even if only temporary. ^_^
And excuse my randomness. It is a curse, I swear. ^_-
SAO!!! It's good to have you back in any form!!! You'll always be a fav as I had my biggest fight ever on the boards with you ^_^ I think you should just jump in and say screw it, I'm going to write no matter what =P
Thanks again everyone.
Shair: I really just started this past Monday, so this is my 4th day. I'm doing what is essentially a 4 week internship where I'll get to learn about all the different parts of the business. Right now I'm doing editorial. I'm reading submissions, making notes, and handing in back to the Editor, and I've either already impressed her or she trusts me a lot because she's taking my critiques seriously and if I say I'd reject it she just puts it in the rejected pile (power is SO COOL!)
If all goes well I'll be hired on permanently in Jan. Most likely it will be more of a business manager role. Where these guys need some help is with planning and keep on schedule. Unfortunately, I've noticed, Arts people are tremendously bad at business. Thus why the Publisher is giving me this chance, he needs someone to make good plans and crack the whip to get it done haha ^_^
SoHee: How are you doing? Has life calmed down any?
Geco - well I'm doing fine, but I have no idea where my spare times goes.. I'll try to catch up soon though :)
hey everyone! seems like everyone is one suddenly. It's good to see!
Sao - Welcome back! Missed you, believe it or not... ;) *poke* I'd like to see you write sometime soon. :)
Project management then, eh? That's cool, some of my buddies are project managers. Every business needs them, but in this economy alot of them are getting laid off since it's not a strictly money-making department. A mistake, in my opinion, but Random House still employs its project managers :P
@Aposai - I think your post would be much easier to recieve if the time was changed from that evening to the next morning. They all just barely escaped with thier lives and someone bearing a banner of peace from the guy who just tried to kill them would not be kindly welcomed under any pretense.
I suggest editing your post to "..." and reposting it with a time of day change after Geco moves us to the next morning. It would flow sooo much better. That's my professional opinion, by the way. It's nothing personal at all.
Sorry all for my absense. Working on a post now
Well i guess the situation is a bit different than that actually. I believe the real reason was not the timing but rather the story Geco and Phoenix talked about, in which Gabe and Siegfried were some kind of business rivals. You see my story didnt go along well with those plans.
Thanks for the welcome, everyone. And Geco, you still remember that embarassing episode? I already started pretending it never happened :p
*is pounced out of the blue and collapses*
aposai - don't feel discouraged. Keep with us buddy! :)
Sorry guys, I wanted to post but after everyone's posts I'm trying to figure out how to go about this. I'm kind of stuck. We know we could locate a source of magicite, porbably in a tunnel underground near the volcano, but we also know any openings are guards by the natives and that they are far more skilled than us, so we can't get the drop of them. Asking them won't help, because we've said there's no way they'd give any to us.
So that's where I'm at, and it feels about the same as being stuck =P The only things I can think of are to straight up steal some magicite, and make the natives mad at us (and goes against the principles of Gabe, Seph, and probably a few other crew members) OR to run a con involving Ralse and his crew in some way to which would enable us to get some magicite, but I'm worried it could mean staying longer on the island =P
Thoughts on the options?
If you have another idea that I have missed, feel free to PM me with it.
Well, Drice's character is the sneaky sort. Some kind of assassin as I interpreted his posts, and a good one at that. His characters have as much motivation to get off the island as ours, so it would make sense for him to help.
Otherwise, we might just have to come up with a strategy to lure the guards away to get inside, but with my post, I was suggesting a network of tunnels inside the volcano (as there are often many sealed off or dormant lava veins which become caves in volcanic mountains). A group could enter with Cailey providing a sort of compass through the caves.
Also, there is a third option of the original plan to steal Ralse's magicite engine and transplant it to the Dawn.
I'm sure there are other ways as well, but those all came to me off the bat. I'll post again if I think of more.
*laughs as she proffers a hand to help Sao up* ^_^
Oh, and Geco, sent you a PM. ^-^ Please read. ^_-
I was thinking Cailey could gain us access to the tunnels by making her own entry above an established tunnel system (a la Arlen's island intuition / Cailey's senses).
I think that they should only have her do this when the ship is ready. This involves 3 things.
1) we need to rebuild the ship using the trees, including brand new masts.
2) The turbines need to be reserviced.
3) with the manpower we have, it will take a little while.
Then we can focus on restarting the engine and getting off. Until then, we're going nowhere.
I nominate a containment leak on the refined magicite, and it leaked into the sea.

I have plans on T'a'u'weke... so... just to let you know. Pu'aki isn't necessarily in agreement with him. If you want to know, contact me Marc.
If you feel the need to divulge, send some info my way, otherwise I like surprises too ^_^
I like combining that idea with what SoHee mentioned the other day, and that was using Jasper. I don't think making an access point would go very well, and we can have Jasper simply scare away the guards (I've already established that ghosts are an unpleasant thing for the natives) and that would give us a limited window with which to find some magicite and get out.
We're going to do it right away and just assume all the other repairs have been done, at least enough to make the ship fly - by that I mean I can time skip us a week ahead in my next post or something. Seems like long enough. I don't think anyone actually wanted to RP doing the repairs... although pls correct me if I'm wrong ^_^
I don't think we need to rp our way through construction. Tbh, I didn't know the ship had a sawmill on board anyway. Repairs should be light (few days of engine servicing) and we act as if the ship was masted all along. I do like the idea of our energy supply being contaminated, forcing us to either work with or subvert the natives.
Gabriel walked under the weight of the bright sun. He wiped the sweat from his brow and took a quick drink of water. The hammer in his hand had started to feel heavy, he wasn't sure how much longer he could lift. Taking a nail from a nearby bag he aimed it at a newly cut plank of wood, drew back his arm, and swung with tremendous force. Under the assault of his strength, the nail retreated into the wood, too ashamed to show itself.
Hehe, how many more paragraphs of that could you stand ^_^
I miss the old days...the old format...but at least my username isn't deleted when I don't log in for more than 90 days. You can thank Rensha for pulling me back here right now. Anything good I should look into joining?? >_>
(>^.^<)
Welcome welcome Huntes ^_^ I just want to say, I kind of called this haha
There's only 1 active story thread unfortunately - mine. Most of the usual suspects are present (me, Ren, SoHee, Phoenix, Drice, Shari, Darlok, and soon to be Mire). It seems like most of us only have enough time or commitment abilities for one thread... and hopefully we're making the most of it.
Ren's post lost me completely...
yeah. it kind of took off the last part of my post... i'm editing it right now.
Jasper was kinda invisible when he arrived, but nevermind .... we'll go with that.
so he was talking to the group invisible? I missed that.
I will be getting back from my Thanksgiving trip tonight so I will post sometime tonight
Rensh - no, apparently I wasn't that clear, but I tried to get across that he appeared in front of Drice, semi-visible (transparent state), spoke to them and then went next to Jade and became invisible again. So by the end the native approached he was already invisible. but it doesn't matter that much, just thought he would do that in case so he wouldn't frighten the native beforehand. plus if need be, and they found him to be a threat, that would be a nice "surprise". :)
no no I understand, that's why i changed the end of my post yesterday. (take a look at it again. actually made it a lot simpler so I can just get down to basics. We need to get off the island! lol)
