yea but their will always be provs bigger than you, if you dont have any offense they will attack you and all you can really do about it is b*tch. I wouldnt worry about tpa, you can always train more thieves. wpa is an issue because it takes time to get wizards and growing a lot makes the problem worse
either get a ****ing massive Dwarf/Merchant or 4/5 Elf/Merchants
@ kbone Land Lust is always available, plus sending out small forces of Beastmasters to feed off smaller inactives Provinces and/or that 'die' gradually throughout a war.

scorpio, the problem with having your ghetto bank faery attack chain targets is that the NW differential will be massive, meaning pretty much no gains.
But I do actually think this is more viable than the normal "always someone can break you, so why bother with faery" argument allows. When your not being a real bank, your intent is just to provide a nice sum of money, not to be the entire source of dragon income ect. for KD. So even just being a little bigger than the top teir of attackers in opponent KD is enough in war to be unbreakable, and oow, as long as your not out of control large, or have stupid low defense your not going to get hit so much that you wont be capable of dicing/exploring back to semi-bank range.
And I believe Imp means just have 4 or 5 elf merchants.
Lastly, you could try being a dwarf/merchant a/m at the upper teir, overdraft at start of war, semi-turtle until you've grown a bit, and let pessies fill in.

2 ages ago my kd tried to run a couple Faeries for TM support and it ended up failing massively ultimately leaving me as a lone Faery/Rogue. I figured the best way to help support my kd wasn't so much offensively (TM ops), but economically. The only real problem I faced was trying to avoid getting hit throughout the war and remaining useful.
The way I saw it, no one messes with a prov they don't consider a threat. So I went with the following:
50-55% Draft
70-80% of the average kd NW (no cows and a pretty even spread, so I was behind the back)
65-70 dpa (iirc)
Enough Towers/Magic science to be able to ToG every tick.
Naturally, I faced some small pre-war massacres, but really all the other kd saw was a really "poorly-run" Faery who wasn't casting spells on them and had a pretty mediocre tpa. What they didn't see was me single-handedly covering 40-50% of the dragon funding/killing and giving out a nice and steady supply of aid to anyone that needed it.
admittedly it's not the most leet of strats but I had a lot of fun playing it
well in order to LL, they would need to attack you 3 times in the same day, so by that point youve lost a lot of acres. LL is one of the hardest spells to cast, and im not sure but I remember seeing somewhere that you need a mod wpa 4x greater than the opponent to have a decent success rate. I imagine it would be very difficult to have that high of a wpa while being a 'bank'Quote:

In ghetto its better all just stock a bit of money and give it to dragon. But fary/merc just good in aiding money and runes with -10% pop I doubt faery/merchant can help much in killing dragon.

First thing is when i say a "bank" i am talking about an actual BANK, as in a COW. if ur talking about someone that is not significantly larger than the rest of your KD, then i would direct you to Palem's post, which might be more along the lines of what ur thinking, but i wouldnt call that a bank.
Secondly, im not sure what charts you checked but there are only 2 faeries in the top 50, one is not a bank hes in the #1 kd, and the other one is a fail-bank in a ghetto, 0/2 war wins... i certainly wouldnt get all excited about running a faery/merchant bank over that.
My definition of a banks role in a war:
quad tap their largest provinces for 3.5% gains each hit, killing troops and starting chains for the KD to follow up.
kill dragons single-handedly
fund dragons single-handedly
have decent wpa to avoid getting FB'd from 200k pezzies down to 25k (decent TPA too but ns wont really matter assuming they wont ever get in range to break you)
Dwarf/Merchant is the standard for banking, with human/merchant viable.
since i just happened to check the charts it brings up another question though.... whats up with that Undead in the top 10?!?!? wonder how much exploring/dicing that is or if hes just farming all the other cows??
When talking about cows turtling ability you not so much mean as what you described, but the ability to have good defense when your offense is home(and offense is almost always needed). For example as dwarf you can invest majority of your army to elites and still maintain good defense, and when in signs of trouble/need to send out, you can easily mass some def specs. Bottom line is is that dwarf with army home is hard to break by both enemy cows or tryed to be cq'ed down in war etc, usually you don't want to attack a province with 150 opa and dpa if that means you are left on 40 dpa after doing so.Quote:

Also let it be known i do not have a bank, nor a wish to play as a bank, in my original post in this thread i admit my idea for a Kingdom bank was based upon 40 seconds or so of forward planning. I have not even played using all of the races of Utopia so far. Regardless of this i think, with my noob logic, that a Faery Merchant T/M would be my pick for a safe and secure bank Province.
cow: a really big animal (prov) which can bring a lot to the table.
turtle: an animal (prov) which can protect itself by ceasing to attack.
just to put a stop to this: if you're not one of the top 5 provs in the world, and you don't have offense, you're just a farm. it doesn't matter how much defense you have, you're going to get hit. therefore, "banking" in anything but a top kingdom is relatively worthless.
better to be useful to your kd by having offense than having no offense and getting hit everyday.
faery/shep is a defensive cow
dwarf/merch is a cash cow can be a offensive cow
