Ha, wow, this is a bloodbath.
I agree with Persain. It isnt viable that a mage have to carry 30-35% towers.
Mages have been weakened for a few ages now while attackers have been strengthened and thieves pretty much stayed the same. When the new elite values were introduced and war horses and prisoners/mercenaries were strenghten it made it alot easier to hit down pure mages or thieves. With rune production cut in half basically with the sci change, it has not only made mages come up short for spell casting but also weakened them overal because they have to dedicate an extreme amount of land to towers leaving them short on eco buildings (homes, banks, arms) and protective buildings (forts, watchtowers).
I think the game would had been more balanced simply letting magic sci continue to affect rune production even if it boosted wizzard production (mages needed that boost imo), or perhaps giving mystics 100% land effect on towers.
Totally Agree with Shai. Makes no sense to dedicate that amount of builds as towers. Increase tower Rune production or reduce the Rune costs of spells. It needs a better balance. Rogue already have a slight advantage over mystics imo. Maybe also reduce the effect of LS with these changes.
Hmm , having no issues myself with faery mage
Yea, it is definitely not easy to have good rune flow this age. I guess just makes for a different meta-game.
I would propose that a good change would be to change "Food" Science to be "Production" Science and instead of 20 profs giving 200% food, 20 profs could give 100% Food and Rune Production.
That would both increase the desire to run that field of science, as well as keeps Rune production away from channeling (which in fairness was a bit too powerful).
How about you guys grow a bit and learn to manage resources? The vast majority of ages had no rune boost. Learn to work without the training wheels for a bit.
Last I checked this was the suggestions forum, not the complaint forum. Please don't look at our suggestion discussions as pure complaint.
It is our right to talk about areas of the game we would like to see be a bit different, and suggest ways in which it could change. It doesn't mean you have to implement them.
Just last age you were saying similar things regarding the fact the 200% wizard training in eowcf was gone. Then you found a very good way to implement it into the game, and we acknowledge and are thankful for that. Just let the discussion play out without coming in and pseudo-moderating it please :(
You know I appreciate what you do, and you also know i like talking about suggestions (I know because you have used a few of them in age changes in recent years, and I thank you for that) but sometimes good changes can come out of not so fun-to-watch commentary.. if there is one forum where those kinds of discussions can take place.. it is this one.
Thanks for your consideration.
Rune costs are higher relatively speaking when you are smaller. Managing resources is a critical aspect of the game. Both points are constructive.
You don't even need 35% towers even if you do feel entitled to be able to spam ll every tick - more like just under 30 with some acres and absolutely no rune mods. And let's be clear, being able to spam ll on tick should require significant allocation of acres.
You have 2 personalities with rune boosts. You have the ability to pump WPA far faster than ever before allowing less fails and so less runes. You can steal runes, you can be aided runes, you can stock runes. 15% towers and no mods allows a fireball a tick. I see no reason to reducing rune costs.
In war I was running 20% towers as mystic and was able to cast ms every tick with a few extra runes. Which is more than enough imo. Yes we are losing a bit of land effeciencey and yes we are stolen from a lot more but mage do tend to have highest honor, so maybe it's a good trade off now.
First age as a mage, and yes I've seen tms (mainly mages) run wild with honor for, well, ever.
As an aside. Just given runes are a lot harder to come by this age, shouldn't their effect on trade balance increase?
