Okay Landro, you can have the credits, I don't really care, I was in the middle of writing this thing when you said "edited hosts file" ;-)
for windows 7 guys:
click on your start menu, go to "run" and type "notepad". You will see the notepad icon with the name appearing at the top of the menu. Right click it and chose "run as administrator". Once it starts, go to "File -> Open" and locate the same path as for windows XP, to be able to open the file. The rest of the earlier solution applies - enter the line with the IP address, save, exit, enjoy utopia again.
Put the following your host file...
63.251.171.81 http://utopia-game.com/
it will work after that...
http://www.fpweb.net/support/managed...ng-support.asp
if you do not know how to edit it..
Eus solution works.
aaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggg
Crazyguy, trying to load the game via the IP address will lead you to nowhere. The devs designed it like this, so it always redirects you to "utopia-game.com", your browser then picks the wrong IP from the wrong name server and sends you to a totally different web server.
Eus thing worked for or it was coincidental.
Scavenger, I see you still have bad taste in your mouth because of our last forum encounter, I suggest you forget that tiny thing, and move on. We all did.
yeah.. Eus its only a temporary fix.. when I click something too I get redirected back... seem as though im gonna have to do that with every link?
well it works fine here.. all pages work witht he IP I am using..
Do what Atreeus? Once you add the IP to your hosts file, you don't have to do anything else but the usual things. All the IP addresses that resolves atm to utopia-game.com are fake, except one.
IP address of utopia-game.com is 174.129.4.172
IP address of utopia-game.com is 66.150.161.140
IP address of utopia-game.com is 63.251.171.81
IP address of utopia-game.com is 63.251.171.80
IP address of utopia-game.com is 69.25.27.170
IP address of utopia-game.com is 69.25.27.173
IP address of utopia-game.com is 66.150.161.141
In this case, the first IP is the real one. With every request you make to a DNS server, the DNS servers which has information about utopia-game.com will respond, leading your browser into obtaining the wrong IP for the game server.
As suggested earlier - after you add the line to your hosts file, clear your DNS cashe -> for windows you should go to start menu -> run and type "ipconfig /flushdns"
That should be enough.
Confirmed: The problem is with mydomain.com
See here: http://twitter.com/#!/search?q=%23mydomain
Also, they're starting to acknowledge that there's a problem:
http://twitter.com/mydomaindotcom
Even if mydomain fix the problem immediately it's likely that it will take several hours for their change to propagate across the internet.
We do not recommend that people update their host files. Some of the instructions in this thread for doing so are incorrect and you may have problems connecting to utopia in the future. Please do not update your host file.
That is weird, really.
Host name of 174.129.4.172 is ec2-174-129-4-172.compute-1.amazonaws.com
Only this IP address has any reverse DNS information and we all know utopia is hosted on amazon clouds.
Wow. Great! And what exactly is incorrect?
Hm, sorry, my bad then. Thought you were still bitter about that thing witht he PMs :PQuote:

We're going to see what happens with mydomain in the next few minutes/hours and possibly move our domain elsewhere (note: we can do this without affecting you guys - you won't need to update anything).
Sorry for this inconvenience.
All these turbo nerds trying to find a way to get on utopia. So funny. Take ur time Brian, no rush bro.
"Turbo nerds"
heh
funny guy, you are
True, every average user will probably forget about that. Hosts file is quite used nowdays nevertheless - you want to block an ad company which gives you headaches and makes your favourite game run slow - you add the domain name pointing to 127.0.0.1 -> problem solved. This is just one example. There are some 3D role playing game servers which requires users to make changes to their hosts file, in order to be able to play (this called "private servers"). It's all about the person who uses the computer. It could be troublesome indeed, if they just forget to revert the changes tomorrow morning when everything works fine.

aaarrrrggggggggggg?
The UT jitters aren't as bad as i thought, we here can wait. Good luck with solving the issue. :)
the game is pausing? What?
how the **** do you PAUSE the game. Does that mean when it starts back up it will be 10 hours behind... the 22nd will now be the 12th? or will the date stay the same, just no ticks for the 10hrs.
That's going to confuse my unpaid/unfed/unhappy soldiers.
Pause means pause, the dates aren't ticking so nothing will be missed.
Do you think you could freeze it for closer to 12 hours? If not I might need to take an embarrassingly long "restroom break" during an important meeting where I am also trying to make a good first impression.
So will the in-game date just continue on from when the game was paused, thus changing how the in-game date corresponds to real world time? I.e. the month change in the game was at 18:00 GMT, but if the game resumes anytime other than 24 hours from when the game was paused, that will change.
The message says the game is "undergoing maintenance" - is this a polite way of saying that you're looking into alternate web hosting? :P Or is the game actually being worked on?
Its a good thing I have given up trying to figure out what game day corresponds to what real life hour, a while back it was exactly synced to EST but I think now it is slightly off, i just worry about my local time... which is why every page in utopia should display the game date!!
not to say i want to go a full 24 hrs without logging, but wouldn't it make more sense just to resume it 24hrs later.
Instead of 10hrs, 14hrs, possibly less or more.
It would make all the dates/times match up. Just means we missed MARCH.. not a big deal.
I would hope we just resume it in sync for hours. People have spell up and such that correspond to sleeping patterns and what not.

The issue has been resolved on our end. Resolution will now depend on how quickly your ISP refreshes its cache. We apologize again.
that is from their twitter feed, sooooo can we get back up and going soon?
Is "the age of errors"
umm no we've had that before, this isn;t their fault at all so i dunno, post above seems unneccessary
bugger :/
