The fact is, again, I played in Shadowlight for 10+ rounds and was in the "council" every round. When I left for andn00bs *voluntarily* because I wanted to be more competitive than the rest had time for, it was a huge emotional moment in the kd considering all we had been through (10 rounds is roughly 2+ years of real time friendships).

You are either a) on drugs b) thinking about the wrong kingdom c) thinking about the wrong person.

Edit: I was also 14 years old when I first started in SL, and this was before there was anything like paypal, so I'm not even sure how I could pay anyone online to "help me with instructions." Best you could do is mail a check or something and what 14 year old has a checking account?

You know you are forever utopia damaged when u cant remember your ICQ number when asked, even if your Life depended on it, but as soon as you fire up ICQ your fingers magically types in the number like it was yeasterday you used it.

I cant retrieve mine :(

I've been trying to get access to mine since this thread started. ICQ has the worst customer support.

oh i played those ages as well godly :-P and shadowlight came in as number 37 in nw age 8 on bf server and continued on like that for some ages.

ps quite disappointing that the bf server rankings are not posted in history of utopia. Its only the place the top kingdoms played on during many ages

Shadowlight had one age where the real kingdoms monarchs only cared about winning prov crown and we rolled with #1 and #2 prov the whole age as the #2 kd and were allied and protected y'all so Shadowlight got a free uncontested cakewalk to an age win. Once the pros started caring about kd crowns shadowlight never showed itself in the top again. Meanwhile RA made #1 every age we tried reaching #1 something like 5 or 6 times at some point during the age whereas no other kingdom even got to #1 more than once and we were the first and only kd to win twice until I retired and then the lesser kds like Absalom had a chance to compete and finally win an age.

Wasn't for lack of trying. I think SL had some bad luck too before fading away.

I'm fully aware that Korp is going to go rabid by this next statement, but idc and will be ignoring him because I didn't trade *my* prov:

SL was #1 every single round from round 5 through 10 until midway into the round when Mehul would do his deletions.

For all of our talent, we were atrocious at doing the trading/proxy thing.

If there was a legal trading system, SL would be universally recognized as the best kd of all time.

SL Did indeed win

Age 6

SL third, RA won.

Age 7

SL 29th spot

Age 8

Couldnt find SL at all, maybe different name at eoa

Age 9

SL 13th

Age 10

Couldnt find SL at all, maybe different name at eoa

So to me it seems like it was just one lucky age just as Flogger said.

How does your post contradict what I said? We were #1 until midway when Mehul would delete a good chunk of our provs. Nothing on a chart will tell the story... just has to be first hand knowledge.

Unfortunately I don't believe there is an active player playing in utopia that played with me in the round 5 crown run, but ASF, flogger were playing utopia during the crown run. I have them on ICQ. Mehul was a bastard. SL definitely wasn't ****ty, but did have some bad luck with the accounts IMHO.

I am pretty sure mehul picked the ones to delete. Every stinkin war it was like, delete the provinces with the soldiers...

No, but I was told that the account that I left that was a pure randomed SL account was deleted within the same round.

It was sad to me because there was a time when someone in SL made an ebay listing for a SL account and it auctioned up to about $400.

And what team mates would you have chosen when you started playing utopia then? Did you have 24 friends playing already that you could join ... OR did you find friends on the road?

Just saying not allowing trading back then was a pretty good idea back then. You got to meet so much new people and your contact net broaden then ofc you traded anyway when you built your contact-net.

Can't possibly be true as we went wire to mehuling the rotating halfer age. #1 from OOP and 50% larger than the server by week 2. Wire to Wire in age 6 as well.

Korp, basically it was people that you played with in other games that you could hold accountable since you know them.

The biggest requirement of a player in utopia is accountability. Random players don't have this because they don't have any investment.

But if it's someone you know, they're going to wake up to do things, not mess up, etc.

Faegan, who defines it as cheating? There was a time when women weren't allowed to vote. Instead of being sheep, some people actually fought to get the laws changed. I know it's a stretch of an analogy, but the point is sometimes you gotta break the rules to make them better.

It's a good idea, but when you're on a server trying to achieve goals, you want to make sure everyone in the kd is as committed as you are. And that's the reason trading was invented.

Some people play for fun. Others play to win. As long as we're all enjoying the game without hacking or abusing code, I suggest we live and let live.

He didn't cheat, unless you're saying every kd that has been crowned are cheats as well, based on your logic. And expanding further, can we say that alliances is a form of cheating as well?

Trading was cheating, it doesnt matter how socially acceptable it was, it was still cheating. And its true, most kingdoms cheated back then. And no alliances wasnt a form of cheating since it wasnt strictly against the rules trading was.

I don't think it's socially acceptable, but I do know almost every kd traded even the ghettos. And yes, technically alliances weren't against the rules, but it also wasn't the way the game was supposed to be played.

I guess it's a moot point as today, trading has become legal, and alliances are still around.

It was always cheating. It was always socially acceptable. It was even one of those counted on random events that could change the course of a war. We even had a term for it, "mehuled". Do we name things in that manner if we consider it a good practice? "It was a good war until Dragon's got Mehuled" sounds like trading was not socially acceptable but strictly speaking, cheating?

atleast scripting was not cheating ... or ...... wait.

of course not. It was the application of skill in a manner inconsistent with the rules.
