LK is right. The more traffic Jolt gets, the better for them. I know I now read thier review articles on video games that intrest me (though I don't click ads... no matter what website they're on >.<). I didn't know they existed before, now I do. Same with recruiting people to the forum. Granted, we aren't exactly promoting the Utopia browser game, but all the same... website hits are hits reguardless of where they come from.
My suggestion for the quickest way to get new people here is to reach out to people at work or school that you think might be interested in writing. Students who go to fine arts schools are generally well-read and may have a talent for this that they have yet to discover. And believe me, no one will think less of you just because you're a good writer. It's a skill, not a flaw. Look at how many people loved movies like LotR and Star Wars. Not everyone is a hardcore fan, but they enjoy and good story, and like seeing the sequels.
Encouragement is very important too. We've all been new writers, and some of our original work was less than epic, but just look at your own work and see how you've developed. I actually found an old journal of mine with hand-written "posts" I'd do during downtime without access to a computer to save my thoughts. However, originally, I got in to this through a friend who showed a site to me and one of my other friends during middle school. It pretty much took off from there, and as a bonus, my English grades never dropped below a 95 xD
Okay... I could go on, but it's really late. In short, recruit your friends! As they say, birds of a feather all like to write together... yeah?
Dragon - I remember seeing posts long long ago in a board far far away from now. I think. It sounds familiar *shrug* Back that far, my memory of who was posting wasn't so big, but mainly how much better they were than I was. Granted, I was only 15 when i permanently joined, but I lurked for a good long while. had to muster my courage to jump in. ;)
on advertising - Ours would be free joltvertising. :) Everyone takes free advertisement. Maybe we could mention it to an admin and they can point us higher up on the rung, and so on and so forth within Jolt, to maybe get someone in the marketing field to realize that even though we were only ported to Jolt by necessity, there is a big market for text-based RP, just as there is for text-based strategy, and that we just happen to have come along for the ride.
Maybe at least they'll make banners for us. Even if I would have to volunteer brainpower and a little time, I think I could manage to help increase numbers in the board. Eventually, I'll not be working anyway, and I could help out a lot in New Zealand too while I'm not working 50+ hours a week to survive.
Geco - Thanks for the compliments. Although I may not have much to say on these types of threads, its fun to watch the bantering that goes on, and interesting to read the ideas and opinions.
LK - Hate to burst your bubble, but I've been here LONG before the KotOR forum. True, it was under a different handle and followed by a lengthy absence, but back in the beginnings of Utopia I was playing and RPing while in highschool. But you DID bring me after the long absence. ;P
I doubt they'll market for us, but if you want to take out an Ad, you would need Jolt's permission to use thier logo and advertise for them. Also, Jolt has no obligation to pay you for advertisment unless you take out a contract with them, and the sites that dispaly your ads actually generate hits and registations to these forums. Basically, if they can't figure some way to generate revenue by spending thier money helping us, its not a decision they're likely to make :\ Even if it does bring more people here.
It would be nice to see a lot more people who are interested in posting in this forum join up. But if they don't know about it, they cant even come to the place.
Anyone paying any attention to the Oscars? This is twice in a year that I've went to the AMC and saw their Oscar Nominated Best Film marathon.
I was sorely unimpressed with Benjamin Button, but the other's were all pretty superb in their own way.
I do hope Slumdog wins.
Opinions?
I haven't been paying much attention, I usually don't though heh
I did see that Ben Button was nominated for 13, with ties a bunch of other films, and that if it strikes out it will be a record haha Never saw the movie though
edit:
Also, merely FYI for Geco. I'll post my second chara's intro after you lot get over to Coral.
Didn't watch the Oscars, but heard Rourke got robbed. Didn't understand why Penn won though. Even if it was a good performance..wasn't it a biopic? Unless the competitions weak, never got why folks would toss awards on something like that.
In my eternal capacity as grand god of awesome, I command the peoples of Furious to post! :3
So, about that Star Wars thread you were talking about a while back Shari Tana, were you still interested in starting that up? I'm kinda bored not posting a story or anything
I still want to do it, but only 2 other people showed interest. A 3-person cast isnt very exciting most of the time :\
True, It would be nice to see more people interested, Star Wars Threads are some of the most fun that I have ever taken part in
Might be worth starting up anyways. Once people read whats going on, they may be inclined to jump in. That's what happened with Legacy of Paulos. Started with three and by the time it died out it had grown to six or seven I believe.
Speaking of LoP, would anyone involved happen to have an archive of the posts? wouldn't mind going back and reading it again. I really enjoyed that thread. Wish Byelotsar was still around. :(
Posting to keep my name alive :)
Haven't had the strength or inspiration to do much RPing at all >< Maybe I should try making a thread...
Which always lead to death so I probably won't bother >< Me of little imagination lacks good stories T_T
