In a ghetto KD i'd give a Halfer Merchant a serious thought, make sure they play with a very good TPA, 100% elite and larger than the kd(2x?).
In war I'd get them to play as the bank but also massacre the opposition mages, as long as they are a respectable ammount larger than the kd then they aim for ones where they don't send out too many, i.e leave more at home than the largest off in the opposition kd. No need to use rax and worry about attack times, with no hosps they wont be expected to attack as often as others. they can't hit a mage than consider razing the oppositions smallest to help your kds smallest to get easier gains.
As it's a bank it'll need a good peasentry and income, the halfers +5% population is nice and with the capability of running a lower DR and homes then they can have a very nice daily income, oow they can look to steal GC and stockpile. Also being a ghetto you will not have the same support as more active kds could give, useing the halfers thievery benefit to help in SoT blocking can give you the luck needed to avoid a hit.
I wouldn't put much faith in a sage for a gheto bank, esp if they run larger than the kd, they become free learn hits for others.
odd ... i dun understand ... than ur halfer/merch isnt a bank ... merely a bigger prov in a smaller fish tank war ... odd
Sage is prolly 3rd best personality for cow. Or if it can dodge fights whole age, it will become easily the best cow lateage. That's a big if tho, hence 3rd. Fratzia ran sagecow not too long ago, it struggled early/midage keeping up exploring against sheps/mercs while acquiring sufficient gc stocks for his fights against abscows(abs ended with triple cow win that age). Altho Fratzia often runs weird **** for cows, age after that they had faery cow lol, heard it was quite a hassle sitting on 95% draft trying to stay alive by aid solds released to pez, and still getting broken, altho peace time tog must have been nice :P
Always nice when ur cow can ToG when needed tho.
But jea, that's actually the sad part of playing a ToG race anywhere..Since once u get to dicing, every time u click for those 4 acres, in ur mind you know it could have been half a mil gc instead :P
everyone needs to listen to clarey on this, and suprisingly ddoge has it right, if its not quad tapping the enemies top provinces its not a real bank/cow
and anything other than that is fail
also dwarf/merchant easily best cow but humans are viable as well.
land building costs are such a pain in the ass though when your big acres
Jeah i remember their age 49 cow better, it was dwarf sage latecow(they were all dwarf sage) launched a few weeks into the age. If i recall correctly, it had kinda hard time stocking any good gc after exploring the daily 480 so sanc/rage dw sheps had very huge advantages over him in some middle age fight. I think rest of cows that age were sheps and next age faery cow was merc, because i think it was age 50(was it, right?) when mercs replaced sheps as the best cow perso. I could be wrong here tho, you should really better ask some Fratzia people :P
The best banking race is Bulgarian.
Ok so firstly i would like to address those that claim "if your not top 5 your not a bank", its called economy of scale learn about it. If he is in a ghetto, which he says he is and that ghetto wants a province that can provide a large chunk of economy on a steady basis throughout a war they DO NOT need a top 5 land province to do it, they don't need a province that NO ONE can break. They just need a province or provinces that no one in their wars can break. if their average kingdom size is 800 acres having a 2k acre faery is going to provide them with just what they want, a province that can not be broken, it can protect its pop (thus protecting econ) and use ToG to generate a proportionately large amount of income. Now myself personally i would rather use several provinces not so far out grown say 3-4 provinces about 50% larger than average kingdom size and then make an attempt in war to go after highest MO enemys to ensure the 3-4 stay UB.
As to race, in a ghetto Faery or halfer is best as they can protect their econ better and their D better than the dwarfs and humans as well as provide some T/M support.
Well, they do actually. That 2k faery wont be able to run the low draft required for massive income because out of war they will get farmed out. Even running a high draft for decent defense numbers will not help as people will still farm it out of war. A prov that cannot retal = free, safe acres.
what can a 2k faery do ... =) eco-wise? ... odd they have the most expensive leet and have the worst draft rate. they cant even support themselves ... how can they support a kd of only 800a prov .... surely ... my term is better ... a big prov in a small fish tank =)
About the only thing you where right about their bishop was that a prov that cannot retal or have it's kingdom retail for them is free acers. That is why I suggested having several turtles not quit as far outgrown. That way you can mix faerys and halfers together providing some retail support from halfers OOW. Also at 2k acres and 100+ dos you may take the occasional random out of war but most don't bother since their are always far better targets at that size so you wont get raped the same way you might think. Your also right that you wont have a ubergiagantic income like the land whore banks but it will still be vastly larger than your attackers after a day or two of war and that's all the ghetto needs. My kingdom is doing and has been doing exactly what I'm talking about now very successfully now for several ages and have never had a problem with our outgrowns getting raped or not providing sufficient economy. If your kingdom was around 6 mill nw bishop we could have a war after Xmas so u could see what its all about.
Your limited experience in a small kingdom just says you have gotten away with a bad strategy for a while, not that it is a good strategy.
I'll say it again. A 2k faery in a kd of 800 acre provs (your example, not mine) is a land farm. The faery will need to run high draft to try and not get nailed out of war, and they will be hit for free acres by provinces that are slightly larger than them.
