They're doing it wrong.
encouraging to know you're taking an unbiased approach to racial equality.
I've never claimed I'm not biased. It doesn't matter how hard I try to remain unbiased, I will always want faeries to be better.
That doesn't mean what I say is wrong though. TMs are bad.
don't u lead an entire kingdom of them?
The problem with having game changes posted way past when folks expect them without any sort of explanation is that it fosters an environment where rumors flourish. For example, some of the rumors I have heard...
-Bishop is in Jail and no one will put up the $100 bail
-Bishop has been fired, there are no changes, and the game will be cancelled tomorrow
-the Irish Union of Programmers wont allow work on the weekend so we have to wait until late monday for the devs to find their way in to work and post something
-there will actually be 187 fresh new racial changes that look nothing at all like the proposed changes and Bishop is afraid to post them
Im not saying any or all of these are true, it is just stuff that is making its way around the irc channels I hang in. Some folks even think that their exceedingly low expectation levels are not being met but many would disagree with that I think.
I think everyone is wondering... what kind of drugs are you on? I have never heard or wondered any of those things. I don't think anyone else has ever wondered those things either.
But then again many of us see Bishop on IRC and posting on the forums or use the sense to PM him on the forum.
It will be up before the age starts (with the short downtime it's going to be up soon or when age ends and during downtime), otherwise you can't have ages with new changes -.- There shouldn't be major differences between potential and final changes, maybe a buff/debuff and an elite value change which only affects race preferences. Generally the potential changes is a good enough skeleton to base kd strats on and you shouldn't have everything set entirely in stone but a general idea of what your doing, anyway you get 3 days to reset your race/perso and have a discussion using whatever means your kd uses.
Overall I think the racial changes are pretty balanced, and more emphasis needs to be on other mechanics that have been popping up.
actually bishop hasent been on sense early saturday.
SOMETHING must have hapend to him! :o
Yes he got stuck under a can of pink paint while he was redecorating his bathroom this weekend. :P
Couldn't just stop at saying it was out of line. Had to add the personal attack. Good job!
Bishop said to use this thread to comment about the changes. That was me expressing my opinion of the changes. There's no downside to having final changes out sooner than what's happening, so why do you feel the need to chastise me for making a comment that's for the betterment of the game?
Possible Faery tweak...
Faery:
+25% wpa and tpa
+20% sabotage and magic damage
War horses fight on Defense
-20% population growth
Elite: 3/5, 700gc, 5nw
Spellbook: All spells (can cast MS without Mystic)
Since we are being technical... Your comment was not about the changes per se, but about the timing of the changes and their impact on mythical new players.
I assumed by the post that you were acting immature and that you were much more mature than your post gave evidence.... I apologize for thinking you were.
Took me awhile to warm up to the idea, but horsies on the defense seem like a pretty good spot for faeries. It'll give Halflings a gentle leg up (there'll be a target to steal horses from), it'll make faeries attribute more of their land to defensive buildings (stables, if they want to go that way), which'll inturn tone down their OP strength and econ...
The rest of those changes though are unnecessary. Keep them as suggested by the devs/Bishop, just swap 3/6 and -3 gens for 3/5 and horsies fight on defense.
At the same time, it makes faeries viable hybrids, too. I think it's terrible that races have negatives that remove parts of the game from them... Now we just need to tackle Orc -% OP strength and UD -science.
One possible issue with stables is that the throne room won't list defense properly, even though it should be limited to one horse per defending troop else it would be very imbalanced. Dunno if the devs want to put that kind of work into it, but it should be relatively easy.
Orc and Undead should have their penalties in place. It's a tradeoff for having the strongest and most durable offenses in the game, and Undead have had their penalty since their inception for a reason.
I know that this idea would never be implemented, mostly because it would be a courage issue. Still. I would like to play next age with no changes. zero. nada. Every kd in the game would play the coming age differently from the way they played it this age. Every kd knows (they think) exactly what went wrong and why. Of course efforts to fix things would be met with all of the other kds in the game also tweaking their kd's so most of the tweaks would be pre-countered. Many kds would just love another war with those idiots on the next island if they could find them, especially now that they dropped 2 orcs in favor of 2 dwarf mystics. Some would war more or maybe less. Some would add mage power some would reduce it. Some would come oop bigger and some smaller. I think every kd would find that their age played quite differently from this one and it could be a lot of fun trying to get things right the second time around. The only change I would make would be to give avians a nice buff like maybe +5% max pop. There are only 143 avians now and encouraging some movement to that race would change things up in many kds just enough to add some real interest. I would happily play an age that did the no change thing, I think it would be fun.
