I think the URP boards are an interesting anomaly. We are usually left to our own devices; storytelling, writing and existing in relative peace. There has always been the utmost minimum of controversy and petty disputes. Occasionally we'd have a spammer who would drown the 100 thread limit on the old Utopia boards - two days later a mod would come mop it up. These days we seem to attract the ignorant or atypical troll. Unfortunately I don't think these boards gather enough attention to perpetuate such a problem. Like Rensha says, unlike typical internet forums, we have a bit of decency.

Hey everybody, sorry about the absence, but things have been pretty crazy lately, topped off by getting a new job. This weekend was bad, made so many plans that in between the squash, dim sum, Call of Duty Modern War 2, hockey, UFC, poker, crib, Canadian Football game... you get the picture, I just had no time for the boards.
Also, am very happy to announce my new position. I met up with the Publisher of Sci-Fi and Fantasy who happens to be the only publisher in the genre in Canada and somehow the stars aligned and I now find myself on the first day of the job. I'm going to be doing more marketing and business development eventually, but for the moment I'm getting to read manuscripts and assess them ^_^ I think it's pretty fun. Really happy and is like a dream come true to be able to work in field I love.
Aposai - I'll post my reply later today.

thanks Geco and congrats on your new job, seems this week was crazy for most of us.
For me it was the translations, exams (not mine, i was the observer) and lectures it sucked, totally :(
-
damn you geco. ;) you get the job I always wanted, the life or death of authors... lol
well, not technically. i would someday love to be an editor along the lines of suggesting changes to the story. For a small firm.
Maybe I'll move to canada and make some stars align for myself, eh? *nudge, nudge*

Nah, man... Good job ;) Best wishes to you, and make sure you don't steal any ideas on accident and throw them on the boards. Could be a bad thing for you.
-
lol thanks Ren, I'll try my hardest not to get sued ^_^
Actually, I think if I stole most of these ideas, you guys would kick me out of the group haha
-
that bad, eh? Remind me to use you to publish the books I'm writing. :)
-
oh sweet! When I seen roleplaying in the utopia forums, I didn't think it would be filled with some well written short stories.
-
I think we might be getting new blood, eh?
-
Transfusion almost complete... ;)
-
lol. ^_-
And I will be sure to use you as well, Geco, whenever I finish my book and want to get it published. ^_^
-
I can only assume you're about to jump into Skysail, Mireldeyn :D
-
Ya no kidding, if you're going to use my new found influence the least you could do is join my thread ^_^
In all honesty, the company I work for is very small, we're publishing 12 books only in 2010 and they are all trade paperbacks (meaning the print runs are for about 3000 copies). It's called Edge SF & Fantasy Publishing / Tesseract Books (2 companies in 1 =P) Here's the link: http://www.edgewebsite.com/index.php
Punk > I wasn't sure if your post was subtle mockery or genuine interest. If genuine, forgive my cynicism, we're used to random jabs at our chosen hobby.

I wish I had the time...that's one of the reasons I haven't even been on here recently. I had a day of boredom, tho, when (for once! It is a miracle!) when I had nothing due, no work to go to, and no class. I was excited. ^_^ So I decided to say hi to some old friends on here.
If I do end up having some more free time, and can get on here, I would love to start posting again. I miss URP!!! *cries*
