Well the thread really is just set in the Tactics universe. Set nearly fifty years after the game factions are beginning to make their move for power. The characters are caught in the middle as the world slowly burns into chaos. Rensha was in the last one and people seemed to enjoy it. Other then a few city names and classes the thread is pretty loose as far as creativity it's your world to create, just using the Ramza story as a background.
-
While I hate the name Ramza :p I actually started play FFT again just the other day. If you start up that thread, I'll probably have to find time for it.
-
-
I can't find mine. I'm so pissed. I started daydreaming at work and remembered all the little things I liked about the game. I wanted to go through and make a whole team of chemists with ninja secondary jobs... mabey even use some cheats to make a team of holy knights or those little dancer chicks you fight on the roof in that one mission. That's the only mission I really remember becase I failed it like 300 times >.<
-
It's no cheat. ;) now what IS a cheat is unlimited items from the changing rooms. :)
Another one I liked was the dark knight one for Ramza that I haven't gotten around to verifying cause I screwed up (I think) on ONE thing, so I'm not entirely certain.
Never did the cloud thing. I don't really care too much :\
-
Cloud is really useless in FFT. I got him after seeing the easter egg in a magazine, and like most FF fans, I think VII got the genre really noticed. I picked him up in a normal playrhough, but you get him several dozen levels below the rest of your party. Taking him on missions usually result in his death, and dead teammates don't earn JP or EXP. Even if you did level him up, his skills are very much similar but very much weaker than the samurai skills.
That's one thing I really didn't care for too much in FFT. All the special characters and thier little stories really didn't do anything for me. Beowulf was useless next to an Oracle and Reis was just useless overall. Mustudio was really cool when you first got him and you archers were low on JP, but it didn't take long for a crossbow to overpower a gun. Most of the time, my team consisted of Ramza (because he had to be there) as a Knight, a Chemist, two Archers and a chocobo (the yellow one) for Ramza to ride, plus any other additions the game gives me as NPCs. The other slots (I think party size got up to 8?) I filled with random people I picked up along the way.
As for the dark knight, I didn't like it very much. They only have two realativly short ranged spells that don't do much damage. I don't remember what they were called, but that one class that could break equipment with sword spells was really awesome.
-
never played Tactics, but I am sure you will explain it to me.
-
Ok, so I started a thread called The City of An. It is a casual thread, which means you can come and go as you will. Hopefully, people will catch on to the idea of creating characters and creating a city. In the future, it might be the staging grounds for quest threads if there is enough interest. I created it mostly as a place to just lounge around and use my creative box when I'm bored.
-
Any one up for some sort of superhero themed thread? And if so, what sort of feel do you want from the thread? Silver Age heroics? Gritty realism? An academy for young powered students, ala X-men?
-
I wouldn't mind a super hero thread. One of the ideas I had mentioned before was of a high school setting with just normal stuff going on. Then I thought (but didn't mention) of an X-Men type school. It would not only allow us to create unique young heroes (joy!) but it would give a ton of room for growth. Also, it would give us a chance to do 'everyday life' sort of stuff, with an added twist. One thing I liked the the X-Men movies was the interaction of the students (aka young Iceman making the ice rose for young Rogue, and all that jazz).
-
hehe... I wouldnt mind a hero type school thread, but make it more realistic kinda like Heros crossed with X-men. That would be cool.
-
In lieu of there actually being a super-hero thread, there is an Academy in An (see my thread for details). Being a magical world and all, there is some room for you to create heroic type characters with special abilities there in a fantasy setting. I know it's not a perfect solution, though. :)
The more people involved in that thread, the better. I'm happy to interact with anyone who comes in there, but it would really become fun when people start taking the creation process outside of me. I'll still be diligent in chronicling the growth of it in terms of places and people who are there.
-
I found City Of An a little too... busy for my tastes. Maybe if each part of the city was a seperate thread it work a little better for me. I dont know. *Shrug*
-
Hey Everyone, so I've come to the conclusion that, at least for myself (and I assume a few others follow the same kind of pattern), I need something new and fresh to re-spark my interest. Was wondering what people would want to participate in?
I have an idea for a Deus Ex type thread set a little bit into the future focusing around secret organizations, conspiracy, and using nanotech as cool backdrop, but wanted to see what people are looking for?
-
-
sounds fun. :)
Quantum computers and communication, Carbon nanotube muscular grafts, handheld laser weapons, batteries of unbelievable capacity and voltage... yeah... I'm good to go. :) Sci-Fi here I come!
-
I watched almost all of Heroes recently, and found ...
that the writing was mediocre, at best. The plot lines, while interesting, were convoluted without being original. The character development was a complete mess. Even the individuality of the characters were silly putty molds of boring, very overused archetypes.
We can do much better.
I'll be starting a thread in the next two days. It's not "superhero-esque" but it will have such elements. It'll also have very different requisites, as per usual for Arkady.
For those of you who do not recall who I am, I hope will learn to at least forgive my eccentricities.
For those of you who do recall me, I hope that you recall I prefer not to talk about my threads, outside the context of the actual writing. I just wanted most of you to know that I am now around, and that I will be writing here soon.
-
Heroes just recently fired two of their writers who the producers blame for "muddying" up the character development. They are going to be focusing mostly now on characters and not powers. My feeling is the series is going to become more like a superheroes Sopranos.
-
While that's true, the fired writers were only responsible for the 2nd season. The first and third seasons are not that much better to begin with. Furthermore, ratings, despite the firings, have not improved for the third reason, which I hope goes to show that the viewing public has come to their senses.
I'm not saying all television is bad, I just think that Heroes is a bad representation of a sci-fi-esque thriller on television. I also watch Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles which, although it, drags at times, is marvelously written. It's dark, gritty and is in part a commentary on our reliance on technology with a lack of conception of the implications.
The characters are well-developed and stay true to their character, rather than fluctuate as Heroes very often does with little explanation or reason.
Lost is also a splendid show, that really showcases some great writing talent. The flashback sequences did magnificent things to demonstrate the very believable psychology of the characters, while the plot lines were mysterious and a little over the top, always stayed true to form, consistently wrapping itself tighter, rather than just expanding and criss-crossing for dramatic effect.
Feel free to disagree. I'm expressing what I hope to be a fairly basic critical opinion that will contribute in some effect to my writing.
-
nope, i pretty much agree with you. ;) Lost as the ability to keep my attention, though the last few episodes have me on a precipice of most possible disappointment in loosing the context of characters and what they would plausibly do. However, everything about the island is implausible, and is quite admittedly something I find to be a catcher of my interest. Ben is my favorite... ;) followed by locke, and then jack. kate is something nice to look at. I just wish they didn't kill off women so fast. especially the good looking ones. ;)
anyway.
I hope it contributes to your writing. However, you'll never know until you go back to doing it publicly. ;) *nudge*
-
I liked Heros in the begining. However, as the show has progressed I find my self less and less interested. I dont like this seasons whos a bad guy, whos a good guy mystery. It just isnt very consistant and has become predictable.
I like Lost. At first I was "Eh" about the idea of it. Then as I began to actually watch it, it sucked me in. Plus the eye candy dont hurt ;)

Okay working on a 'fantasy themed' thread. How many people would be interested in it? I would start with a little story and allow the players to expand the plot and the world...
-
-
I don't mind jumping in if it interests me :) These days, though, it's been hard to get my groove on.
-
I was going to throw up a fantasy thread myself now that the holidays are over, but if yours is going to be up soon Drice I can wait.
-
You got my attention, Drice.
I'm still just lurking around... ;P
-
We still have Endless Skies hanging around... sorta belly-up at the moment. I like my characters in that thread, so if there is a new fantasy posted, I'll likely use one of them.
-
I know i said i would have had a post for the RP a long time ago, but i've been working like 15+ hours a day since i made my last post on the forums. I haven't had a day off either but this weekend i'll be free.
-
Ok so I was a little premature with my thread but better late then never. Life has been chaotic, however I finally returned for with an actual internet connection. I have an idea for a thread.
It takes place within a fantasy themed world. The small kingdom of Ashan is a prospersous utopia. It's lucious landscape and rich natural resources help shape it into a paradise for those fortunate to call it home. But there is another word that describes Ashan perfectly....conquered. The kingdom of Ashan is no more. Lost are it's ways its people scattered to the wind. No mighty heroes came to stop the empire from sweeping through their defenses. No divine god took mercy on the kingdom when the capital was torched to ashes. Instead the people get by as best they can, relunctly by some, accepting by others they have become Emperial citizens.
Something hovers on the horizon, a darkness that threatens the Empire. It has been years since Ashan lost its soverignty. But should heros of Ashan bleed to protect the empire, or use this opportunity to free themselves of the Empire?
The thread would be broken in two. The first part would be the prologue, the fall of Ashan. Players would take part in the last night of the war with the empire as Ashan crumpled to dust. Then the thread would time skip eight years to the future...
-
go for it. im down for a hack'n'slash :P

So... did you just feel the need to pad your post count or something? I really have to call you on this one buddy. There is no reason why you needed to top this. There aren't a slew of other threads that will push it off the boards, in fact, I don't think things will get pushed off at all anymore. We've had 1 active thread for the past 7+ months, and just got a 2nd, and that's bringing back an old thread, plus on top of that, we all talk in the msg board anyways about ideas and/or OOC for active threads. Seriously, why? Just admit you like padding your post count, and I'll drop it.
^_^
-
um. well actually the thought HADN'T occurred to me at all.
The reason was because I was looking for the post that Shari said I had a character in the Starwars thread. That being said, I looked through the last couple of pages, didn't see it and hit top, cause it's a sentimental thread to me. Didn't like the idea of it not being with it's best friend the RP message board. That and I think people forgot (because they've been putting thread ideas in RPMB) that we had this thread for just such a purpose... :) That's all. :)
-
you never posted a character, just said that you wanted to join. it's an OOC message in the original star wars thread. on the first page, i believe.
-
oh, i was looking for a character sheet or something. lol
-
I want to know... if I made my own thread, that people were free to join or not, no obligation, would anyone read it?
If there is a book written, and no one to read it, does it make a sound?
-
Are you talking about starting a thread and just writing yourself, or are you actually looking for people to join? What's the story going to be about? More details is basically what I'm getting at.
I've never followed a thread I wasn't participating in. I'd give it a look, it you were actually going to write a book/story yourself and if it interested me would follow, but I hate reading on computer screens and would feel more obligated to Skysail, so it turns into an every now and again thing.
-
-
How do people feel about an urban fantasy thread? Meaning modern day paranormal ( vamps, lyrocamps,.....)
I have an idea, but if no one is interested then I won't bother.
-
nah, the thread would be open to any joiners. Just wondering if, hypothetically, people would read a thread they didn't necessarily have the time to post in, but perhaps wouldn't mind reading?
And all that stuff about e-books and not being able to read on a computer are like oil and water, my friend. ;) You'll have to do a lot of computer-screen reading before things are published, and on the way to the publishing server. :)
oh, and to wildfire! -
Welcome back! Great to see you! :) I wouldn't have any aversions to it, if that's what you mean. I like things like shadowrun (sci-fi or modern fantasy, that is. Or cyberpunk too.)
by the way, how's things wf?
