Because they - like you - suffer from a lack of understanding as to how the game works and the fundamental game mechanics. The first ghetto I was in, the monarch messaged me repeatedly asking me not to hit (or retal) any larger kingdom or 25 province kingdom because they were afraid that those kingdoms might opt to hit more.
Fear. Fear and lack of understanding prevents them from making smart plays.
Why do you think Palem and I are successful in getting CFs with top kds for our ghetto and you aren't? Ask yourself why that is...
I think the answer is zapanapQuote:

We had a 25 prov kd raze kill our steward 6 times last age, so its not always so beneficial :P Though it must been karma punishment it was Steel after all.
This was very funny, they did it out of the blue :P I messaged them and asked why they did raze kill him 5-6 times no answer though :(
I was more thinking, since being a veteran player you have lots of contacts and etc so being you should have made it easier to get cfs. Though I agree with your post, just showing that its no always the case, given that there is a variety of 25 man kds.
Even if zauper had been 100% neutral he would have got the cease fires because he knows what to do.
I dont think that his nickname plays a major role, he just knows how to dip them and if required hit/ops like it hurts them.
This can be taught to anyone willing to listen to advice. But most just see thier own way of dealing with things in the ghettos and its incredible hard to change thier defensive minds full of fear. The moment they realize they have nothing to lose and the top got everything to lose that is the moment their IQ goes up a notch.
Its naive to believe that there is no power behind being a acknowledge topplayer with a large contact net. I mean, anyone of us that been in the game for a longer period has automatically a larger chance to rake in a CF or a deal cause we have the necessary experince AND we do have friends and friendly contacts compared to a newbie that has the same knowledge but no contacts.
Oh ofc, i do agree. But what i am trying to say is i think he is experienced enough to have got the CFs without trying to hard even being anon player. I dont find it hard at all to get cease fire when hiding, most of the times they are not even needed at all, but if they are needed its still not hard.
25 Faery/Sages?! Gawd, I'd feel comfortable whoring with that :p
That might be true for Zauper, but when the Nick "Palem" shows up in your IRC chan, people don't exactly go scrambling for cover. The only thing you can really say about is that I'm fairly well known, but that's no reason for top kds to just give out CFs like they're candy. There might be some power behind a respected name, but it's not like that's the whole story.
Zauper responded with most of what I was gong to say. But you do not enjoy competition. That or you don't look at an entire age you look at 1 period of time. There is 0 reason your attackers should have high defense in any case you wish to make. You are just wrong 100%. If you are a TM in a "kingdom" cus you know it is a kingdom based game your teammates should be able to retal for you. You have the advantage being smaller. Just try it one time. When they hit you hit back. If they retal with more hits and give relations retal with spells and another retal exactly like we said. Guarantee you end up in acres. But the only way to achieve it is run high offense.Quote:
But to answer your question, do I like competition, yes I do.. but the answer to the question "Do I think that a kingdom able to hit one 20% of it's own networth and still get gains to be competition?" No I do not.
And despite everyones claims that "offense is the best defense".. when the bottomfeeding province is 40% or so bigger than the defender, no amount of offense is going to work.. also.. when the targetted province is a halfer or faery.. they cannot carry serious offense to double/triple back. Not to mention.. you dare to double retal a bigger kingdom.. next thing your top provs are taking double and triple tap razes.. just because they can.. or their "friends" are making hits on you instead.. no matter what you say.. the mechanics may support topfeeding, but for a 20 prov ghetto to try such tactics with a 25 prov top 10 kingdom is suicide.. you can spout on all day about how "it's not worth it for them" and so on.. but the fact is.. NO ghetto is equipped to deal with 140% nw hits from a 400-500% nw kd.. no amount of offense is going to save you when you're 5 provs down.. unable to break any but the smallest provs over there (at 140%+ nw).. while all your guys are quad razeable to half their kingdom.. and if you seriously suggest that it is.. then you need to get a check on reality.
You fall into teh exact mentality that causes farming. Excuses as to why it happens but failure to listen to the top guys telling you what they avoid when they look for land grabs.

The first race I played after a multi-year hiatus was faery. It was weird because war wasn't any different from any other stance. I'd get panicky msg for aid and I'd be like " sure, I've got plenty of stuff ". Then some undead guy hit me and I was thinking " hmm, wonder what his problem is? ".
It wasn't till I played avian the next age where I was completely aware of what was going on.
Years ago. Several years ago, when I first played my first age I travelled 3 times to see how different kingdoms functioned. I played the beginning of one more age as undead, but RL dragged me away.
Perhaps the differences come from different gaming cultures. In my sector I can respect Kestrel038 because I don't desire conflict from those that don't want any.
For me having top kingdoms mess with you goes beyond wanting them to leave me alone: These are actually the most stimulating engagements. I come from a gaming culture of embracing the challenges. It's not my reason for playing, but it's the most interesting struggle.
