Well as usual just let me know where everyone wants to go and I will follow
Do you have an email address you wouldn't mind giving out, Drice? I can send you an invitation to Google Wave.
Feel free to PM it to me, or if you don't mind, post it akin to Fizbans formatting to avoid it getting snagged via phishing software.

Hey everyone. Sorry it's been a while. I would like to say that I've been extremely busy and moving half way around the world a la vagrant, but truth is I haven't been doing much. Unemployment has gotten to me more then I'd like to admit. What little creative energy I have left has been consumed in the novel I've been writing. I had made a choice once I was unemployed that I would take the opportunity to follow my dream and become a novelist. It's been hard and frustrating, but also very rewarding so far. I have created a large, fairly detailed world and a plot that seems to fit in it quite seamlessly. That said, I regret falling away from this board and hope that I don't let it happen again. I just wanted to let everyone know that I am still around and have been reading along as I find the time as well as constantly archiving Skysail myself. If Aram's still alive (haven't caught up in a couple days) I hope to jump back in.
Also My email is bmkermodi@google.com if I could get the invite for google wave. Would DEFINATELY like to stay in touch with everyone...
He's still kicking Darlok, and I know what you're going through.
I talked to my boss yesterday and got the news that he's decided it's best if we split now, so I am also unemployed again, and was more than a little frustrated by all of this, but I'm hoping it turns out for the best, even though it's a bit hard to see right now. I'm going to do a bit more research on starting my own e-publishing company (if anyone would be interested in volunteer helping in that endeavor send me a PM and if I go forward with it I'll let you know) and maybe send out some resumes to the traditional publishing houses and see if anything comes from it.
I'll get a post up later today. Thanks for the patience guys.

Mire - Invite sent.
Darlok - Invite sent. Good to see you alive and thrashing!
Geco - Sorry to hear that, man. With fortitude and a little luck things will work themselves out.
I'm confused Geco... you got fired for suggesting to expand the business? That seems counterproductive. I mean, what kind of company wants to hire mindless drones? Free thinking is usually encouraged in business. At least, it is where I work.
Actually, it was to start a new company that him and I could be partners in. I'd still be employed with him and sort of work at this new business in my spare time after work hrs, and I could leverage his experience and network. I thought it was a good idea because he is quite old and I didn't think he really wanted to pursue ebooks all that much with his firm, and this way he could retire and still have some income the company was successful, or even be involved in a small way. But I wanted control of it because I wasn't sure where he was headed (I'd asked him repeatedly for his vision, timeline, plans etc and just said he didn't have one - which is why he hired me in the first place). When we talked and I found out he essentially wanted me to take over managing for him and build an ebook component, I told him that's what I wanted, and I would be more than happy to sign the no-compete, sign long term, and drop my idea to stay and do that.
Unfortunately I think this is an instance of your experience shapes your perception, and he had just been burned by someone else he'd trained for a year who left to start his own company, so he figured this was the safe move. I'm strangely ok with it. It has sort of pissed me off enough that I'm putting my fears aside and I really want to start this company now.
In a weird way he might even believe I'm better off doing it myself and reaping the rewards myself rather than staying with him, not sure really, but I live to fight another day.
If I do start this company, I'll ask right now, is it okay with you guys if I occasionally ask you questions, or ask for feedback, or ask if anyone is interested in helping etc. I know this wasn't ever designed for that, and I'll respect the wishes if you guys think it's inappropriate, but since I've come to regard this as a virtual community I love, it would be great to have your support and possibly bring anyone interested along for the ride.
I'll have to respectfully decline, Geco. I signed an employment contract with a no-moonlighting clause. I could get in big trouble if I worked for another publisher, even for free. It was probably in your contract with whoever you were working for as well. Lots of businesses have them, actually...
Hey Geco, did the invite for wave get sent? Just curious because i posted the wrong email because I wasn't paying attention. my email is bmkermodi@gmail.com, not google.com.
We never had a contract, just verbal agreement. It was part of the reason why I wanted my own business, I felt like my boss could pull the plug on me any time and I'd be out in the lurch. And I completely understand, just figured I'd ask and see ^_^
Re-sent the invite Darlok.
Nice, I didn't even notice the typo either - just copy and pasted. Thanks for taking care of that, Geco.
Geco - I know nothing of the publishing industry, but do have some knowledge on the runnings of a small business. The intricacies of contractual agreements in Architecture and Landscape Architecture are quite the quagmire. So for what it's worth, ask questions here or on Wave and I can do what I can.
urk... had to work late today, so not post....
*cough* What goes on? I have very little time to do much else but work and sleep trying to save up quite a bit of money to travel Europe when I finish my apprenticeship so I'm taking extra shifts and even a second job of sorts. Apologies for the neglect.
valiant pursuits old man. ;)
