I actually agree with Ren. You have really long blocks of text, which can be ok in book format, it's hard to read on these boards. It's a small formatting issue, but it makes a big difference.
Hey, no fair, I'm picking on Ren here lol
Give it up LK. Don't you know Ren is always right? ;)
Don't worry Ren, you can pay me later...
A lot of different ppl here :)
Two or three with multiple names I'd bet.
Shari / Dragon -
About the talent. I agree. I just can't even go anywhere else because it is worthless to find a substitute, so I don't even try. Nor do I want to, lol.
And I thank you for your compliment. :) Though I believe Ark and Geco are far better than I - golden and godly - I would say. In fact, that could be their nicknames. ;)
LK -
don't worry about it, it's super minor. ;) But you're always saying you want advice/suggestions on writing.
darlok -
Thanks! *slips cookies and a key to an undisclosed locker containing a suit of brotherhood power armor to Darlok*
fiz -
It's my form of roleplaying *nod*
SoHee - Have no fear, there's no need to apologize. They were invented by you, and that was the reason for me publicly asking permission of people ^^ I'm hoping to be able to keep you lot updated in this, so as the characters will not be used the idea (I think that's the right term) likely will be. As in, there role Min Sun plays in the story will be there still (as she pertains to Dante, that is), she as a previously created character will not be there. I think that makes sense. That's how I plan to treat anyone else, as well. Ideas are good, but I won't go stealing you people's stuffs =D
So that's why you never post. You're actually half of the board, aren't you? You sneaky devil!
I feel like I've been getting more compliments than I've gave out recently, well, not only that but I'm not sure if I really deserve them, although I'm humbled to hear them. Anyways...
If I have any talent it's only because of the likes of posters like you Ren, or SoHee, Ark, and Sao. There have been many others who have since left that I won't mention, but in rping with you folks I have seen all your abilities and strived to gain your respect, because I held all of you in such high regard for your masterful storytelling, and I continue to push myself because I have seen how you all continue to grow and get better with me, which is why it is truly a pleasure to continue writing here.
Shari, the newest member to these boards, it's been a pleasure to have you and read your work. You are a beautiful writer already.
Fiz and LK, you have both been regulars which I'm watching grow into better and better writers as well. Fiz especially, from your post in Masks, I actually had no idea you had gotten so good (or maybe I just never realized it in the first place ^_^)
Darlok, I think you're quietly becoming the next great writer here. You don't contribute as much in these OOC forums, so I don't you get as much credit, but playing with you in a variety of stories it's been a pleasure to watch you grow.
If only we had the old activity level we could bring back the URP Oscars :p
Thanks, Geco, I certainly appreciate knowing that ^^
You can thank me for Darlok, I brought him over from a KotOR RP forum :3
I do wish I could join Masks. I'm a big fan of the whole RPing aristocracy, even if Shakespeare often made things confusing. I read some of his history plays recently. Richard III, Henry IV, etc, and tracing lineage was always absurdly difficult for me.
Geco, you've been underestimating Fizban. He's an oldie and a goodie. Sometimes, I put him on the old record player for inspiration.
I hate to give away secrets, but Rensha and Arkady are both brain children of a weekend studying binge mixed with absinthe.
@Geco
Appreciate the compliment. -_-' Swear I haven't rp'd since last year. Got me all nervous. Like this is a whole other language I've got to learn all over again. :P
Thanks, Geco ;)
Well, the only real way to get more activity is to tell people. If no one know the borads exist, no one has the inclination to look for them. There used to be linksites with a bunch of different RP webistes anchored to them, but I'm not sure if they exist anymore. I wish I could publish an article on the forums here, but I'm afraid our audience isn't tuned to this type of thing (mostly technology and science). Someone should sumbit something to Reader's Digest, though. Mabey we can make a little competition out of it xD
Aoccdrnig to rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. This makes me feel funny inside....
Old article is old :3
Fizzy, I knew you've been around for quite some time, but oddly enough I don't remember rping with you :p Like I said, I probably just never realized your talent to begin with haha.
You're right Shari. We probably need to do something more active to recruit people than sitting back and hoping they stumble upon us. Where do you find the right kind of people though, and how do you convince them.
I'd suggest a good start would be looking at how to get this place ranked on some of those Top 100 Role Playing Forum sites you see out there. Possibly trying to write some articles ourselves and have them published somewhere on the net would be kinda interesting. However, I think the same problem bites us in the ass again, and that is time ^_^ I'd gladly help, just don't have the time to organize it all.
I recognise Fizban of old, im sure we rp'ed in a thread somewhere, temple of blades perhaps...
It would be nice to get some more peeps on the boards, its difficult to know how to go about it without getting a large number of trolls. Ive not looked over the other boards connected with us now through Jolt, do any of those games have an RP board, perhaps we could migrate a few of them over?
I have another question, I don't know how long most of you have been on this board, but maybe if some have been with this for a long time, I was wondering if any of you recognize the name Elven Hunter........ Its what I used to go by when I was heavily into this board back several years ago.........
I do agree, we need to find more and more people who have a natural desire to write on rp boards and drag and pull them here. Once they arrive, most of them will be hooked, I was and am again
I don't know how much we can promote the boards before Jolt gets onto us because technically these boards are now owned by Jolt and it is therefore their trade mark. Unless we can think of ways to promote the boards without getting into legal issues, it's going to be difficult to getting new life blood here. Oh and for some reason, I'm having the feeling that the Jolt that runs these boards is the same company that sells energy gum and drinks. If it is ... I have a strange feeling that Jolt is beginning to monopolize certain markets 8P.
I don't see how we can get into any sort of legal issues. All we are doing is telling people that 'Hey, there's a kick ass RP board here. Come join.'
Really, how can they get pissed about that? It technically brings revenue with ad clicking and such
300th post is mine damnit HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA weeeeeeeeeeee
LK is right. The more traffic Jolt gets, the better for them. I know I now read thier review articles on video games that intrest me (though I don't click ads... no matter what website they're on >.<). I didn't know they existed before, now I do. Same with recruiting people to the forum. Granted, we aren't exactly promoting the Utopia browser game, but all the same... website hits are hits reguardless of where they come from.
My suggestion for the quickest way to get new people here is to reach out to people at work or school that you think might be interested in writing. Students who go to fine arts schools are generally well-read and may have a talent for this that they have yet to discover. And believe me, no one will think less of you just because you're a good writer. It's a skill, not a flaw. Look at how many people loved movies like LotR and Star Wars. Not everyone is a hardcore fan, but they enjoy and good story, and like seeing the sequels.
Encouragement is very important too. We've all been new writers, and some of our original work was less than epic, but just look at your own work and see how you've developed. I actually found an old journal of mine with hand-written "posts" I'd do during downtime without access to a computer to save my thoughts. However, originally, I got in to this through a friend who showed a site to me and one of my other friends during middle school. It pretty much took off from there, and as a bonus, my English grades never dropped below a 95 xD
Okay... I could go on, but it's really late. In short, recruit your friends! As they say, birds of a feather all like to write together... yeah?
Dragon - I remember seeing posts long long ago in a board far far away from now. I think. It sounds familiar *shrug* Back that far, my memory of who was posting wasn't so big, but mainly how much better they were than I was. Granted, I was only 15 when i permanently joined, but I lurked for a good long while. had to muster my courage to jump in. ;)
on advertising - Ours would be free joltvertising. :) Everyone takes free advertisement. Maybe we could mention it to an admin and they can point us higher up on the rung, and so on and so forth within Jolt, to maybe get someone in the marketing field to realize that even though we were only ported to Jolt by necessity, there is a big market for text-based RP, just as there is for text-based strategy, and that we just happen to have come along for the ride.
Maybe at least they'll make banners for us. Even if I would have to volunteer brainpower and a little time, I think I could manage to help increase numbers in the board. Eventually, I'll not be working anyway, and I could help out a lot in New Zealand too while I'm not working 50+ hours a week to survive.
Geco - Thanks for the compliments. Although I may not have much to say on these types of threads, its fun to watch the bantering that goes on, and interesting to read the ideas and opinions.
LK - Hate to burst your bubble, but I've been here LONG before the KotOR forum. True, it was under a different handle and followed by a lengthy absence, but back in the beginnings of Utopia I was playing and RPing while in highschool. But you DID bring me after the long absence. ;P
I doubt they'll market for us, but if you want to take out an Ad, you would need Jolt's permission to use thier logo and advertise for them. Also, Jolt has no obligation to pay you for advertisment unless you take out a contract with them, and the sites that dispaly your ads actually generate hits and registations to these forums. Basically, if they can't figure some way to generate revenue by spending thier money helping us, its not a decision they're likely to make :\ Even if it does bring more people here.
It would be nice to see a lot more people who are interested in posting in this forum join up. But if they don't know about it, they cant even come to the place.
Anyone paying any attention to the Oscars? This is twice in a year that I've went to the AMC and saw their Oscar Nominated Best Film marathon.
I was sorely unimpressed with Benjamin Button, but the other's were all pretty superb in their own way.
I do hope Slumdog wins.
Opinions?
I haven't been paying much attention, I usually don't though heh
I did see that Ben Button was nominated for 13, with ties a bunch of other films, and that if it strikes out it will be a record haha Never saw the movie though
edit:
Also, merely FYI for Geco. I'll post my second chara's intro after you lot get over to Coral.
Didn't watch the Oscars, but heard Rourke got robbed. Didn't understand why Penn won though. Even if it was a good performance..wasn't it a biopic? Unless the competitions weak, never got why folks would toss awards on something like that.
In my eternal capacity as grand god of awesome, I command the peoples of Furious to post! :3
So, about that Star Wars thread you were talking about a while back Shari Tana, were you still interested in starting that up? I'm kinda bored not posting a story or anything
I still want to do it, but only 2 other people showed interest. A 3-person cast isnt very exciting most of the time :\
True, It would be nice to see more people interested, Star Wars Threads are some of the most fun that I have ever taken part in
Might be worth starting up anyways. Once people read whats going on, they may be inclined to jump in. That's what happened with Legacy of Paulos. Started with three and by the time it died out it had grown to six or seven I believe.
Speaking of LoP, would anyone involved happen to have an archive of the posts? wouldn't mind going back and reading it again. I really enjoyed that thread. Wish Byelotsar was still around. :(
Posting to keep my name alive :)
Haven't had the strength or inspiration to do much RPing at all >< Maybe I should try making a thread...
Which always lead to death so I probably won't bother >< Me of little imagination lacks good stories T_T
Darlok, if Legacy starts back up, you can count me in. I haven't seen Byelotsar in ... 2 years? Last time I tried contacting him was around December of 2007 and he said something about how his grampa died and he had school work., but I remember him telling me on MSN that he'd try and post. Both Mars and I are still pretty ticked off that he let the thread die, especially when things were just getting interesting. I mean, all of us have moved on, but just when things were getting interesting, the thread just died and I'm sure you, Mars, and siddy (I think that was her name) just said 'wtf' when Byelotsar stopped posting. About a month ago, I remember ranting about my frustrations at GMs and RPers that let threads die because of various excuses. Legacy is such a case and it aggravates and hurts me to no end that Byelotsar let it die. Afraid I don't have archives to Legacy, Darlok, and if I did, I'd probably give them to you. A shame Legacy died away ...
Alright, I'll toss the Star Wars I've been workign on up there. Give me a few hours, though. It's saved on my home computer.
I am so sorry I got lost in Action. I Got Married last Saturday and I got extremely busy. I am still here, I just need a little more recoupe time.
wow, congratulations!
Shari Tana, that would be great! I have a massive urge to put my writing to something, can't wait!
