Also, new content is needed. No new content = boring = bye bye players.

I'm calling your lie here. My KD came OOP with the same players that we have now, all 25 of us, so unless something happens in the next 9 days we will have had a full 25 province KD for an entire age. Same players, same provinces, and no inactives. Same 25 real people since OOP till the present.
Now having said that, I actually agree with lowering KD size to 20 from the current 25, however that's as far as I'm willing to go right now. I'd be willing to be one of the 5 removed from my own KD. Yes, willing. I've been with this KD for years, and I'd hate to leave. However, if it were to come down to it, then I'd volunteer so another wouldn't have to leave because I know that I'm not going to quit Utopia until it quits me (aka dies.)
Also, while I was reading through the thread tonight (I know that it's a while back but...) and noticed that comport9's numbers were wrong (assuming that the KD numbers were correct at the time of his posting.) He didn't factor in something.
Starting at 23, he didn't factor in the second player removed from the 25 province KDs and so on, so the error increases.Quote:

By simply bringing the cap to 20, we now have a total of 112 KDs who, if no one else gained that 20th province, would all be at capacity as opposed to the current 33. I don't know about the other 25 province KDs out there, but my KD has trouble finding suitable targets out there. We're not a top KD by far. We're comfortably in the middle tier and have no wish to be one of the "top" KDs, and most of the KDs in our NW range are <20 provinces and therefore are on average much larger and stronger individually than we are. So we have a very limited number of potential targets, mostly 21-25 province KDs in a very narrow NW bracket (middle of the charts).
Anyhow, I know that others have spoken out against forced merges, but that seems like they might very well be necessary right now. We have 624 KDs out there, 146 of which have 6 provinces. That's not exactly contributing to the competitiveness of the game, although if you're one of those 6 province KDs, you have plenty of targets to chose from, roughly 1/4 of all KDs in the game but only ~12.4% of the players.
Speaking to those who fear that reducing the caps will cause players to leave, I don't think that you give enough credit to the players. Yes, some might quit, some permanently, others only temporarily, but most won't. I'd say that most likely far less than 20% of those forced out would do so. But let's say that 20% of those who were forced out would quit. That's 61 players. How many would stay in the game due to the increased competitiveness resulting from the lower cap and increased number of prospective targets, making the game more interesting?
P.S. I realize that if you multiply the number of provinces/KD by the number of KDs, you'll end up 7078 provinces instead of the current 7049. I put a tally or two in the wrong row somewhere, but I'm for sure not going back through all 624 KDs to figure out which ones aren't in the right spot. I figure that the margin of error (0.41%) is small enough not to matter.
Anyhow, I'm off for tonight. It's 3:15 here and I'm beat XD
I think the major problem is filling to 25 people. There just is not enough people to do so effectively for most kingdoms. One solution to make the game more competitive would be to allow each kingdom a certain amount of multies. Lets just say each kingdom can have 5 multi provinces that they could assign to their best players for a max of two provinces played per player. So a kingdom of 25 would have at least between 20-25 players.
One of the major problems with retaining players is good players get frustrated with always trying to get a full kingdom of active players.
