I just did a possible war target search for my king...
And one of the search criterias he was looking for was a lesser number of a particular race in target kd's...
Maybe that can be included for kd searches.
That is a great idea Bob, would love to see a filter for the kingdom search to remove kds with certain races or only return if they contain certain races. Maybe one of the returned cells can be a list of races and number of provinces playing each?
Can our tool use 3rd party software, if said software is free?

I'm definitely not savvy enough to build a website to do this stuff, but I did build a kingdom/province finder in a free Microsoft tool called Power BI. You can pay for a pro version and share it online, but the desktop version is free and works so long as you save the base file. You can manually refresh it as often as you'd like, and the data will be as current as the JSON update. If anyone wants to try it out DM me and I'll send you the file... but you'll have to download Power BI. (thus my question prior to this in the thread).

I think the idea is to host it in-game, hence only js. It's kind of a shame as no historic data is available in the json file, so fancy things like previous stance / eow aren't possible.
Not sure if this is something to check out... There seems to be a mismatch with the amount of provinces.

So 162 provinces are missing... Is there a good explanation for this?
@Yadda9To5 i'm pretty sure the intention is that it's only "live" data as opposed to historical. But if I was a little more sophisticated I could save a copy of the output every 15 minutes into a folder then use a tool like Power BI to build a teensy data warehouse with historical data. In fact that might be my project for the week...

Darkmoore, you probably using Curl to access the data. Doesn't send an origin header like a modern browser does. I experienced the same.

I used CURL when they did not provide the dump.
Ehm, the contest rules state that "Submission should be a solution based entirely on javascript and some CSS - You may use D3 / jQuery solutions.". So for a valid contest entry this means you have to request data in the browser (via ajax or fetch).
In order for this to work on a website hosted on any other domain than utopia-game.com, access control headers must be set on the json response from the utopia server. (As a workaround, fiddle with browser settings or install an extension that overrides this header, or fetch the json serverside and proxy it.)
(as mentioned before, since you have to write a clientside app, not a serverside app, the resulting tf will be kinda lame, as no historic data is available from the json response you have to work with)
Yes, this is true. The metrics from only a current set are mostly informative, but you can't really make an informed decision with it. Perhaps when looking for a kd to war, you'd like to avoid a full Avian KD.Quote:

My solution is based on PHP/JQuery/MySQL. I am on the other hand, not submitting anything to the contest either. My solution was ready before, the contest started and for sure does not meet the requirements needed to implement it in-game Quote:

Darkmoore. I suspect you've got an answer for your question regarding the total province count discrepancies. If not, I ran into this when building a target locator for my kingdom. It's a bug in the dump caused when a kingdom contains a province which has no owner (ie. disbanded province)

Too late for the contest, but i'm not seeing any submission yet ;) So here is a start, only working with the provided json list, no server-side stuff (which is cached on build time since the live data does not provide the right access control headers, the data is stale) https://utopia-things.gitlab.io/targetfinder/
What i want to add is:
- Ready kd data instead of prov data (based on the same input)
- Ready make kd numbers link to ingame k
- Not going to be there, i have no clue how to implement it sanely make clicking on province go to thievery (but making that useful is finicky, since you need to make a post request, setting thievery to the right kingdom)
- While i tried to build on the utopia css styles, some work is likely needed to make it fit with the default style and third party styles.
It's pretty basic, things like honor aren't listed, there simply is no room in the tables if it's supposed to fit in the in game window ;) Besides, who looks at that anyway, if that's f your consideration you probably want to compare to historic data as well, and that isn't available by design (unfortunately this also makes things quite sluggish on old hardware, processing 600kb of json to show data can be heavy, if creating a json api that can be consumed in-game is acceptable, i'll not mind doing that so more interesting data is available).

Unfortunately there were not enough submissions for the contest, so we will allow submissions to be entered with no deadline at the moment. I will adjust the original post to reflect this new information.
As far as stored data is concerned, we have had some discussions regarding this and may provide historical data as well to make that data fetching/storage easier. I should clarify that we are not opposed to historical data being provided in the target finders. The minimum requirements were set mainly so that there was a baseline to work from, any ideas you may come up with that use the data being provided is fair game.
It should also be noted, in case you all don't already know, the data field provided in the dump for online status is set to false and will not actually show online status.
I have a question regarding "web scraping". Has this been 100% stopped by now or have you granted certain people permission to still do this?
You also mention the "activity tracking". Has this been option been removed from all TF?
I would strongly recommend that the admins at least post up the links that have been provided for the competition so far, even if the competition does not start yet.

Can you be more clear what you're looking for? From my understanding you want something that can be used in-game and that consumes the json client-side. Which, since no access control headers are send, means it will be hosted in-game. In that case a tf that relies on a third party server seems pretty much a no-go. (Of course it will work in a practical sense, but from a long term perspective i don't think depending on a third party for in-game features is the way to provide a reliable game). This also means there are quite a few layout restrictions since utopia can be themed.Quote:
