Affairs of the State - Episode 1 - Live Broadcast Feedback

Hello everyone,

First we would like to thank everyone who attended the broadcast and participated in the chat! There was quite a lot of content covered in the first episode we hope you enjoyed listening as much as we enjoyed doing it. This being the first episode ran a bit longer than we expected which we feel wasn't a bad thing! Future episodes will likely be much shorter and more directed at user feedback and interaction.

We answered some of the more popular questions being asked in chat and provided in the forums. We look forward to our next broadcast and making this a regular event that everyone can look forward to!

Please please please teach Joro how to mute his mic when he needs to cough or type on a mechanical keyboard.

Same with the other videos, it seems like a good idea when I hear it, but can't be bothered to actually watch or listen to them. I'd rather just skim through a transcript of it afterwards.

Well it wasn't JoRo on the keyboard, and that was discussed immediately after the broadcast completed! :P It will be addressed on the next one for sure.

Overall I enjoyed the broadcast today, it was exciting to see the brains behind Utopia in real life today.

Here is my feedback on the twitch broad casts today:

- It was difficult to hear Bishop, a simple mic upgrade should work
- Two hours may be a bit too long, for something like Utopia-game short and simple may be better
- It would be annoying when say Bishop is trying to explain something and Joro keyboard typing is louder than Bishop
- Some parts of the broad cast got a bit boring, I thought more time should of been given to answering relevant questions from the chat
- To me it was interesting when Munk was talking about the submissions for the target find. Wouldn't twitch be a good opportunity to show the good submissions and what stage they are at right now? It may get more people to work on it.

A question I had was related to what David was saying about the "Gold star" low-stake paid benefits. I have no problem for that, the game has to be supported some how. But what if free users were also given benefits for conducting certain tasks that help with the game. Like for the people involved in making a new target finder, or helping analyze some data, or other tasks that help the game.

Thank you <3 I really appreciate how transparent you guys are being with changes and goals with the community. It is a strong contrast to S&B and one that I prefer.

Sorry, my kid stole my good headset. I found it after the stream ended so will have it next time. I will also speak slower so people can follow my accent, which is sexy and not at all pikey.

Speaking of the presentation quality alone I thought it was very good - JoRo did a great job keeping things moving forward without too many hiccups.
Bishop will need a better mic and/or connection if he's going to be on future shows, as it was difficult to make out what he was saying most of the time. It may also help if he stops being so Irish.

I'd love to see one of these maybe 2 times an age, perhaps one prior to age end discussing conceptual changes, and one like this one shortly after age starts to address the concepts behind changes. That should also be a low enough number that the presenters don't get burned out by them as I'm sure there was lots of behind the scenes prep work that went into this.

It was a good episode 1, it brought up a bunch of conversation in our KD

I had a 2 paragraph post earlier, and it said I wasn't logged on and couldnt post, though at the top of the screen it said'weclome unlost"

I will try to sum it up and hope it posts this time.

Gains: hardcore players are not real happy with not being able to chain effectivly, yes this might deter noobs, but that brings me to the next thought.

Noob Server: I love the Idea of brining back Genesis, but I think a noob server where things are easier(or less harsh) might get some into the game, and maybe they will graduate to the hardcore server.
^^^ I wouldnt call it noob server, lol^^^

Gold option: maybe could include meters, taunts, or even a projection on what you might get on ops, but that "rope " thing seems EASILY abused, and makes it P2W, and that is unacceptable.
(for me anyway)

More Players: I have been actively trying to recruit ppl to play the game, my KD is full, but I just think the game is more fun with more ppl. Maybe you could give credits to ppl who succesfully recruit others to play? I know some of you out there have ppl on your contact list from back in the day, look em up, see if they are interested... besides noobs, there used to be a really big player base, and I would love to see many return.


P2W: general concensus is if it goes that way, this game will die. I say that because several ppl like myself have been playing since the beginning or close to it. I will pay for all kinds of other stuff, but if it goes pay to win , I am out.(many feel the same)

I love this game, and have for a long time, been through boats, fame, dark elves, etc, more than ANYONE I want this game to succeed. Most of what I see so far is good, but I am concerned about this gold option thing.

knew I would forget some of what we talked about...

A battle log: to keep track of your hits ingoing , and outgoing( I sometimes go to train and think"how much offense did I lose on that hit?"
again, you could make that part of gold package.

I mentioned a predicter for ops, but for attacks would be nice too, again these are luxuries, and can be put in the purchase column.

one person mentioned a dragon log... not sure how that would work, but interesting.

Can someone donate IN ear headphone set to bishop? Couldn't concentrate on anything else...

That moment when Bishop and his quietness are more reaction generating than the content of the show

Bishop bans trolls, kinda looks like an actual troll IRL :p

Overall, it was good. Bishop should prepare better mic for future broadcast. And may be the broadcast should do it on weekend instead of weekday where people will be more likely to participate?

Offcourse there were some flaws but in essence i m happy the way the new owners communicate with the community. Joro also did a good job facilitating keeping an eye on the chat and bring up realtime relevant questions.

I just saw bits here and there as it was so damn long, only interested in the Genesis part. Was a good way but damn, keep it maximum 20-30 minutes

I've just suffered through 30 minutes of the VoD. Ended up reading Bart's crap in chat instead of listening to the stream.


Take this negative feedback as an opportunity to grow ^^
Need to talk about the game with more passion imo! And just say some random crap that doesn't make sense from time to time, I feel that would help :D

Sounds like a deal, do I have to show my ugly face though? Maybe people shouldn't be forced to see that.

I love the idea to make the Genesis the 2-3 weeks fight for survival mode. Even if it's not possible to make it now devs should try to make smth like that in future.

Also one problem wasn't addressed in this 1st talk - the problem of turning down the UtopiaNet IRC server which can hurt many kingdoms.

Overall feedback - translation was a little boring - kinda too official, too few elements of show and fun, you were sittink like you are on exams or work interview. It's better then ok for first try though.

Hope this idea of doing more talk and getting more feedback from community will really make utopia better, I wish you luck in that.

Not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere. Perhaps next time when advertising an event time 'Broadcast will begin: Thursday June 1, 2017 @ 20:00 GMT (1pm West Coast, 4pm East Coast, 9pm UK, 10pm EU)', we could also add Utopia date & time to that line up. You know, for the nubs who live and breath Uto time instead of real time :D

It was great! Only thing im sad about is the non love for Dark Elves doh :/ Always so fast dismissed :'(

Yup - although for a talk show I saw no reason to crank up the bitrate. :p

It was mentioned in the cast to look into analyzing players to see how they come (and importantly stay) to play in Utopia to figure out how to grow the number of players, and it's been mentioned numerous times in the forums about how to make the game more noob-friendly (UI, noob-friendly race/personality like Treant, noob-friendly server, better guide, official mobile app, etc.) to grow the player base.

However, I've come to a conclusion: the best pool of people out there for Utopia to grab and grow its number of players aren't noobs who aren't familiar to this kind of internet game. The best pool of people, by far, for Utopia to try to attract and retain are former Utopia players. I think 90%+ of current Utopia players are long-time Utopia players (have played continuously) or former Utopia players (didn't play for a while and came back for nostalgia). Honestly, how many people out of the people you know in Utopia started playing it recently for the first time? And, honestly, if you've never played Utopia and you're looking for an mmo game in 2017, would you honestly start playing a game like Utopia? Lol, with its lack of graphics and old school-feel tick system?

I've seen estimates of 30k-40k players as the most Utopia had in the past. I think trying to grab and retain these people as players should be the main objective. The problem of course is how... and I honestly am not sure. Probably better UI? Or different UI options? (allow people to keep the old UI for the nostalgia factor). Discouraging bottomfeeding, too (casual players like to play casually but not get hammered all the time by bigger guys). But these players, obviously, are not noobs (even if they'll be rusty if they start playing again, rusty =/= noob IMO). And so while a better guide/tutorial has value, these types of returning players obviously aren't pure noobs. Perhaps a "Guide/Tutorial for Returning Players" with that sort of title would be better, and that guide/tutorial can be written with these kinds of players in mind. The next pool of players to try to grab and retain would be Earth 2025 (called Earth Empires now?) players who either currently play Earth Empires or played Earth 2025 before, and don't play Utopia now. Perhaps the current owners can reach out to the owners of Earth Empires and they can cross-advertise with each player base? As well as trade ideas about how to attract and retain players. I imagine Earth Empires is in a similar situation to some extent as Utopia's regarding player attraction and retention.

I think there's an issue with people creating accounts and "randoming" into kds. A lot of these players are returning players (or maybe new to uto) who end up in kds that just have no choice but to RK them due to them not being able to meet those KD standards. I think there should be an option for KDs to pre recruit returning players - like the in game recruitment section. I.E. Have a selection of newb friendly kds open to newbies so when they join they can experience the game first hand vs calls to defect or RK.

20 man kds - this very much needs to happen.

I think any fan of Utopia would be pleased to have something like this every age. One suggestion though; more preparation of the format and content expected, less surprises for the Uto team, so there is a more cohesive response instead of jumbled hesitancy and looks of confusion. (This includes more awareness from the Uto team that they are on camera and we can see all their facial expressions, especially their reactions to things that are said.) It's just an awkward presentation of a team that we know actually DOES have a good unified approach together.

But really, very cool thing to do for us the community, informative and should include more cameos from adorable offspring.

i think that is a great idea....
make an entire island for people with non reservations.... and other KD who might be recruiting can go search those islands....

on the other hand..... this may lead to ghetto smack down....

I'm not sure where to put this but here ya go.

How about a feature that allows you to assign scientist automatically to a pre-chosen category. Very annoying right now to wake up in middle of the night to change scientist to the category I want it in. Could also maybe be done with abducted scientist as well? Would make life a bit easier especially for mobile users.

If so then I don't believe it was covered from what I remember, at least not in any greater detail. But I watched the original stream so it's a bit ago and I might have forgotten.
