Utopia Province Simulator

I put this up on Utopia Temple. I figured the lack of response was maybe people weren't using it. But then I realized... the forums there don't seem to get much activity in the Utopia sections.

So I'm posting it here. Read the thread in the UT strategy forum for some information about it.

It's an Excel spreadsheet that'll allow you to play with numbers and see how your province looks with those numbers. It's also got the solver set up, so you can run it to maximize offense.

They really need to update Prophet.

Ahhhh, Prophet! So THAT'S what it was for!

See, I played about 3 or 4 years ago, but never used Prophet. I started playing again this age and found myself in need of a way to "test" build strategies. But yeah, sounds like Prophet would have done the same thing. Except... the Excel sheet allows for a user to use the Solver -- a powerful Excel tool. It'll basically "solve" the best build strategy to maximize offensive firepower.

Ok so expected too much when I downloaded the spreadsheet. I am not an Excel user. Can't really remember the last time I created a simple graph there... Anyway I was wondering if its possible to create a spreadsheet that will automatically give you the numbers you need to run. Like you put in you intel, acre, dpa, opa, build percentages, etc, and then it will give you the numbers you should run? I am an Excel noob.

You can't really do it that way because there could be millions of possibilities.

Instead of looking for the millions of ways to get a certain DPA/OPA/Income, you give it DPA/Income, and it'll maximize OPA.

As far as I know, there is no universal strategy spreadsheet for utopia publicly available. Which is a shame since it’s by far the best tool to compare different races/strategies/builds etc.

Prophet was a very nice tool and we all want it back. However, it didn’t have the same function as a good spreadsheet has, so there is a need for both.

I have posted my feedback on your sheet in the UT thread, since discussions over there usually get spammed less than here (I’ve also posted a link to my sheet).

Diego: You really would need to build something like that using PHP. It would take a lot more "thinking" than just plugging in numbers and running a set of equations. And with there being so many possibilities, I don't think it would be very practical to program.

Hmm downloaded the older version, installed the solver addin on excell and filled in the green fields to my specs.

however when i hit solver it tells me:
Active document is not a worksheet, protected or in shared mode.

so where do i get this fixed?

Well if you put in your dpa opa and build percentages what numbers do you want it to give you? That's bascily everything it takes to run a province....

The spreadsheet is just great! I'm getting the same problem as Sledge, however. I run a mac (run a VM to use Angel), and the default Solver isn't included in Office 2008, as they've dropped VBA in Excel for Mac...

So Solver for Mac is a stand-alone application. When I try to run it on your spreadsheet, it only says "Active document is not a worksheet, protected or in shared mode." Maybe you can help us out here...

the unprotect button i found is under:
tools => protection

Hm! Thanks Sledge1979. It's moving along, but now I can't seem to make Solver work. Can someone upload an XLS version of their build, so I can see how you made it work?
