I would say welcome back LK, but I'm guessing you just dropped by for a friendly hello.

To everyone else, sorry I've been a bit MIA. As I'm not currently involved in what's happening, I figured I'd take a step back and let this sequence play out while I tried to get my life in order/celebrated a birthday. Will be back next week though.

    Blue Moon Roleplaying
Has an Adult aspect to it, as you have to be 18+ to enter, though that's to keep out the kids just in case they get into some adult situations and such. Highly against child sexual stuffs. But it's a bunch of different types of roleplay, like the Desole remake that's not even sexual. Lots of one on one stuff, though there's a good amount of group as well.

Anyways, yeah mostly here for a hello but also to see what's going on. I was hoping that more people had popped up here, though :V

yeah... no thanks. sounds too much like roleplaying erotica, and I know from personal experience that 18+ entry crap is just that. a big steaming pile. I'll pass. If that's what you're into, have fun with it... ;)

A message from the Utopia developers
Utopia is currently under critical pressure from widespread cheating, which is both ruining gameplay and swamping the server that it is hosted on. The scale of the problem is immediately obvious by the volume of complaints, and from our increasingly frequent late-night emergency support sessions.

We understand the degree of frustration that many of you feel at these destructive forces being left to tear the community apart. We feel it's time to openly discuss the state of affairs from our point of view.

Before we took it over, Utopia was a game that was in danger of being shut down by Jolt, much like Earth:2025 eventually was. Simply put, the difficulty and cost of running the game exceeded its potential profitability. However, we (Sean and Brian) felt that if we could re-write the game, then we could get around these difficulties and give it a future.

We personally invested in this effort as a project for our own company, at our own personal expense. This, as we all know, took longer than we anticipated, but eventually we got it running again. The game is currently loss-making, and we have shifted our focus onto more commercial projects. Nonetheless, since Christmas, we have been working weekends to keep Utopia running, on a good-will basis.

Our hope is that this would be enough for the moment, and that at some point in the future we would be able to justify further investment in the game to try to make it profitable. This would require promoting it in new languages, and simplifying the game to make it accessible to new players.

Unfortunately, it is beginning to look like working at weekends is not enough. Wide spread scripted cheating is killing game performance, meanwhile moving to more powerful servers would mean that the game wouldn't break even against its hosting costs. Hunting down cheaters, and/or building software to help identify them, is a never-ending war of escalation with both sides constantly improving techniques with no end in sight. There is a limited rate of progress that we can achieve in our fight against cheaters, and we are currently overwhelmed. We know that one of the most prolific cheaters is also one of the most publicly vociferous anti-cheating complainants. We don't know why these people want to kill the game, but they are.

Our plans for the future of the game don't extend past attempting to maintain it. Immediately, we are looking at improving performance of the game, and creating admin tools so that we can devolve responsibility for finding and banning cheaters. To even get this done, we need your cooperation. Many players are being abusive not just in the utopia forum, but in other forums as well. Jolt staff members have received personal abuse on blogs, social networking sites and via PM and email. This is frankly appalling. As a result, the Jolt-run Utopia forum is on the verge of being shutdown completely, since it is too much work to moderate, and it is unacceptable to remain the host of such aggressive content. Meanwhile, we are under pressure to shut down the game itself. To those of you that are responsible: we understand your frustration - please help us keep the game alive by conducting yourselves better. To ensure that you have a reliable point of contact, Thundergore will be in charge of the Utopia forum from now on, and he will be able to pass your concerns on to us.

Like most of you, we feel that we have invested a lot into the game, and don't want to end its long tradition. However the game is at risk from the behavior of part of its own community. Since we are currently unable to properly police the game and forums, we hope the answer will come from you.

maybe we need to find ourselves a new place sooner rather than later then :(

As an old utopian player it feels a bit sad that it is most likely being shut down.... like an old home is being demolished.

on another note... I'm moving this weekend, so between work and packing and moving I won't be able to get a post up anytime soon... :(

I agree SoHee; as someone who played the game for years (yet, not since 2004) it's disheartening to see the community crumbling. There is some discussion on how to help revitalize the game - namely through the creators of Angel and Utopia Temple, but I'm not holding out for anything spectacular. Jolt gave up on the game long ago.
Finding a new home should be interesting, much more so the transition process..

Wow I disapear and so much happens. Sorry all its been a rough couple of weeks, personal matters included. At work we have our big corporate inspection wed so once thats done it will free up my time greatly so I can return to my normal posting habits. Will start reading to catch up and will try and post something tonight but if I don't then it wont be until Wed night. Also i agree that we should start moving away from this forum it looks like the end is closer then ever and as member of this community since 2000 its heartbreaking. I tried google wave but it didn't work ;-(

Maybe we can simply make our own forum...... or join another that allows us to do the sam. There are a ton of them out there. It is just a matter of finding one that matches us as players.

Oh the mood strikes me every now and then, but like I said not everything revolves around erotica. In fact, I know several people on there that don't even like eRPing and such. But tis your choice, I'm just saying lol

Yeah, it's nuts that Utopia might shut down. I didn't even know Earth got taken down >.o
As for a new forum, Bluemoon is a possible alternative. Like I said, the 18+ thing can be looked at as not exactly XXX rated stuff, but more graphic in general. There's some.... interesting stuff on there, though Ii don't read anything save for what I'm involved in (which to date is just the Zombie RP I co-run lol). But no biggie, just an option. I don't know of anywhere else good.

I had made one long ago. It's a lot of startup effort, and a big pain. I would only do it again if I had a partner in crime or worse came to worse.

I have aversions to joining another forum. We could... but it wouldn't feel the same ever again, I know. I hope we wouldn't lose what made us... us... Our own little lagoon of isolation evolved us into unique beings, in a literary sense. However, I balance in my mind the pros and cons to joining and see a whole new branch of possibilities too.

I say its up to vote.

Who's for joining an existing forum?

    Who's for making one?

(I'm excluding the idea of wave, for the moment, because not everyone can use it, apparently.)

Starting tomorrow, we're starting a conference at the hotel. This week is the biggest week of the year for the place, apparently, so i'm going to be insanely busy. we'll see how my activity holds up.

I vote that we make our own with the assumption we will all move at once and only if utopia fails. I will gladely co-create.The only reason that i havent been active is that I thought the forum died due to inactiveity. I guess I was wrong.
