I think Gnome is a good attacker but probably not the best. Its the strongest A/T hybrid though I think for sure.
With strong NS/Prop you can push enemies combat losses above yours and you have cheaper troops, assuming spec credits are in short supply.
Gnome is hopeless.
Being able to get crazy networth isn't quite the same as being useful - just look at vines kingdom.

gnomes are too easy to mass in war, then they die. They are easy targets, even when at a higher NW than the rest of their KD.
