    What is a turtle?

I read another post having to do with calling Gnomes a turtle.

The best Idea I have about what this is.... when a Gnome has all elites.

I'm not sure why this would be called a turtle though... can you help?

generally speaking a turtled province is someone who has more defence than offence...

as for what people exactly mean by a turtled gnome, i can only guess that its a case that they cant break its defences when they have their armies at home! conversly, if you can manage a SoM on a gnome when its armies are out, they are owned...lol

if im wrong and anyone knows better then plz correct me!

A turtle is someone that keeps their army at home because if they send out they can be hit

Turtles are reptiles of the Order Testudines (all living turtles belong to the crown group Chelonia), most of whose body is shielded by a special bony or cartilaginous shell developed from their ribs. The Order Testudines includes both extant (living) and extinct species. The earliest known turtles date from 215 million years ago,[1] making turtles one of the oldest reptile groups and a more ancient group than lizards and snakes. About 300 species are alive today, and some are highly endangered.

Turtles cannot breathe in water, but they can hold their breath for various periods of time.

Like other reptiles, turtles are "cold-blooded" (or poikilothermic — "of varying temperature"[2]). Like other amniotes (reptiles, dinosaurs, birds, and mammals), they breathe air and do not lay eggs underwater, although many species live in or around water. The largest turtles are aquatic.

anyways, like palin said its about covering your ass by keeping high elites at home.. sort of hiding your head and limbs inside your protective shell like a turtle =)

how good youre at turtling therefor obviously depends on how much more def you have keeping parts of or all of your offense at home.

Some use turtling to refer to high defense regardless of what kind, others use it to refer to running all elites and keeping them at home often, retracting into their shell (as explained above as well). The second one makes most sense, a T/M isn't a turtle in any way. High static defense could be referred to as wall or tower instead, Guber used tower.

Turtling means having so many defense noone can break you and growing primarily by non attacking types of growth(exploring or dicing(well ok, you cant really grow good with dice)). This term is used in other similar games aswell.
