    Back in 'Nam...

OOC: This is a 'back in time' thread, revisiting the infamous Vietnam war. It will begin in 1968, during the Tet Offensive. Period weapons and vehicles only. I (Cuborg) will be the North Vietnamese People's Army (the regular army), Macgruber will be the Vietcong (irregular army), and we are still looking for someone to play as: the Americans, South Vietnam, and possibly the Chinese/Soviet Union (as North Vietnamese suppliers).
Homer Simpson: "Cool, they had army helmets under every bed?"
Executive: "That's a chamber pot. You go to the bathroom in it."
Homer Simpson: "Befoul an officer's helmet? You'd like that, wouldn't you, commie?"

OOC: Okay, let's get the ball rolling here...

The Americans had no troops by the Chinese/Vietnam border, so the large column of troops aroused no suspicion. The North Vietnamese People's Army had tried their best to coax the village of Hui Son into loyalty. But the leader was persistent with their neutrality, so the NVA had decided to make an example of them. The groups marched to the treeline before the village, and waited there silently. The commander surveyed the situation: approximately 30 villagers, no weapons or support. The troops opened fire and sprayed bullets at random. The hail of gunfire made a distinctive sound as the village was hammered into pieces. Villagers screamed and fled in panic, but were cut down by the soldiers, who were advancing from the jungle and into the clearing that the village rested in. The troops systematically checked and burnt every building and finished off any dying civilians. The troops returned to their commander, and they pulled out. This would show any villages who refused to join the North Vietnamese.

Meanwhile, reports of USS Kitty Hawk and USS Constellation where embarking for the city of Ha Tien to establish a rear operating base. The United States was having servier difficulty trying to gain access to airspace over Cambodia. Ho Chi Minh city would be vital to secure within the next 96 hours before the NVA could gain anymore ground. Tension was high, most cities were in state of shock and panick.

Orders from higher command in the USA military was to secure the port in Ha Tien and quicky securing off the north and east borders of Ho Chi Minh city and Mac Bai with tanks and ground troops.

With little warning, all US navel fleets were put on high alert. Napalm was order to be dropped about 43 clicks north of Hui Son's jungel outskirts. Fresh troops from 53rd and 22nd Cavarly Division should be arriving within that region within the next 24 hours.
