ooc: I can understand the desire to move on to the briefing, but this is the meet and mingle portion, and as GM I do not particularly enjoy being rushed (aka the announcements of time which many of you have been guilty) Just to re-set my expectations as GM since its been a long time since anyone has played in one of my threads these are my expectations:

    1) Feel free to create aspects, histories, factions and subplots as you see fit so long as they do not: Interfere directly with something I've said, or something I've set up in the world, if you aren't sure, run it by me first. Don't worry, if you think something will work and it doesn't I'll let you know, I won't mind either, so long as it doesn't KEEP happening.

    2) Try your best to leave the pacing and MAIN storyline in my hands. I'll do my best to keep things moving if you just start getting unbearably bored post about it in the OOC, but don't rush my pacing IC. This will most assuredly bring down GM'ly wrath upon you should I think you actually did it on purpose. (DOn't worry Matt, I know you weren't trying to do that)

3)When we get into combat, feel free to handle the baddies generate for you, and within reason to generate your own, as long as I don't specify that a baddies is under my control, consider it an NPC and completely at your mercy.

    4) remember we aren't Gods, take damage.

    5) remember we're having fun, don't cripple yourself five seconds into combat.

ALright I think that's the basics. Course the last one is more of a suggestion, for your own sake.

Oh, and Matt, GELFS even older ones do not need to be frozen, for Story reasons one for the reasons GELFS were created differently than Pure Ones is so that they do not need to be put into deep freeze. The reason Pure ones (except the occasional experiment like MArsaik) are not created anymore is that they represent too big an invesiture of resources for a soldier that will inevitably break. More of this will come out IC, but figured I'd let you know. IF you have a reason other than age why you get frozen let me know.

    IC:
Azrael thanked the makers when the other GELF left. Finally. He sniffed around some for a seond, his nostrils flaring, as he searched for the scent of anyone else that might have the intent to join them. Then he spotted the wall across from them where the clock showed just ten minutes till briefing. "Ah well, ma chère", He paused puzzling over the phrase, he knew he had used it to address her before, but he could not for the life of him recall where it came from, or even what it meant, "It appears we are out of time for now. How is that beings immortal such as we seem to never have enough time for anything? We shall ponder the mystery of the last huge mission we partook of as we traverse the base to the briefing room."

He extended his arm to her, if the Protocls were going to wake them up for a mission he might as well enjoy what little peacetime he had. His mind drifted back breifly to the time when his mind was still whole, when he was not just a weapon, but also a scientist. Each of the Pure ones had had secondary jobs, aiding the research of the Protocols with the advanced minds and genetic knowledge they had been created with. They had helped to create much of the tech which now fueled the Protocols efforts, they had even helped design the initial GELF's, when the immenent mental degredation of their minds became evident.

As they walked (ooc: whether or not she takes his arm is up to her of course) His musings kept coming back to their last big mission. "I can't remember the details at all, all I know is that it represented the biggest threat the Protocols had ever faced and... ah, forget it. It doesn't matter." He said in frustration. "They'll give us our files and dossiers and whatever information we need, then we will go and kill whatever it is needs killing. Right?"

    ooc:
Mir Feel free to take us into the briefing room, everyone else may congregate there as they see fit, but feel free to take your time getting here if you have some interaction going on. WE'll have another meet and mingle time after the breifing and then on to the main story arc.

Kindle followed the GELF that had motioned to her, looked back at the Pure Ones, looked back at the GELF, "I'm not anxious." she says defensively. "And you can call me Kindle."

She takes a moment to wave in Masraik's direction, and shrug while tilting her head toward her new aquaintance as if saying "I don't know where he's going, but i'm following him".

"So, Mister-hasn't-introduced-himself-, why ya want to know how long I've been doing missions?" Kindle's smile is full of energy, and her speaking tone is playful; it is obvious that she is excited about the upcoming mission and enjoying talking to someone new.

"Heh." The miniature cybie had spunk. "Well," he started in response, "you are still excited about missions. That and you look young, youngin'." He winked at her.

Quantas noticed they were moving now and shrugged. He threw his head in their direction, motioning their departure. "You'll get plenty of time to know the Abductor and Mr.Chlorophyll later." Longview shook his head, "At least I'm not as bad off as they are. Probably won't be for a good long while yet." He sat and grabbed a steak-on-a-stick from his plate, "My name is Quantas, but I prefer Longview."

"Pfft," he snickered. "I'm a GELF from the first generation and it shows. I'm 40% gray now. No more black for me. Not that I'm old, as far as we're supposed to go, but it's a definite sign of stress... At least I don't LOOK old, even if I feel like it." Quantas took a bite and ripped it off the stick. "So Kindle, have any hobbies, or are you still practicing with your implants?"

In all the time on the planet Earth, Quantas had known a lot of cybies, specialists, GELF, and Pure Ones. The ones he minded the most were the weird experiments and the people that brought him down in their own self-pity or negativity. At least she's the cheerful type. I can hang out with her and not feel bad about it. Heh, literally.

"Hmm, seems I was either ignored or I wasn't seen. Oh well." Masraik clears off his plates and proceeds to put them up. Nodding to Kindle as he walks by lost in thought, he heads out of the mess hall towards the meeting.

Halfway down the hall Masraik realizes to himself, that in his anger with the test trial he didn't get the location or information needed for the briefing. "That bastard was going to let me look like a fool!" Frustrated with himself, he storms back into the mess hall looking around for Kindle again. Upon spotting her, he strolls over quickly.

"Kindle, did you happen to gather from those two where the briefing was? My bloody commander didn't give me the information on where it was to be held, or any sort of authorization to get in. I swear I'll crush his little head next time I see him..."

Kindle's attention has been completely distracted from the pure ones. Her stride slowed as she engaged in conversation with the curious GELF.

"Longview's a cool nickname, and I may be a youngin to you, but I'm still an adult in nom years." ... Kindle paused, taking the time to take a closer look at her newest aquaintance, 'He don't look like a sniper, I hope he's not, that's MY job'.

She goes right back into the conversation as if her thoughts hadn't wandered "Hobbies...well, as long as they keep developing newer techs, I'll always be playing with implants, but since joining I've had a couple weeks downtime and I found that I like hiking" ... "you know, there's alot of pretty sights that happen completely naturally, unlike me..and you".

Suddenly Masraik, whom she knew from being on base over the past couple of years, strolled over to her wondering where the meeting was "hmm, so he is in on this too, its gotta be BIG, she chuckled when he complained about his commander.

Her pace is now about that of a giant snails, but she doesn't want to stop dead and block people-traffic "Hey, slow down there Mas, its over in the main conf room, Red. Wanna walk with us?...you met Longview?"

Kindle looks from Masraik to Longview, her chiseled smile still engraved on her face. As she finished her last statement, Kindle wandered, as she has wandered many times before, Did I talk to much?

ooc: I'll make a full post later. First though, Aewyn, by posting peoples entrance to the Conference room before they posted their entrance, you have essntially powerplayed ALL of us, and on top of that, done the exact thing I asked you all not to do in my last IC post (rush the pace of the thread). While it can be safely assumed that we will all likely arrive, and arrive on time, some player may not want to, or may do something with his entrance that causes a problem or comment.

Your speculation on other characters is fine, being first in the room is fine, describing what the room looks like is fine, but posting what we do before WE say we do it, is not fine.

In his frustration he only nods in Longview's direction. "Thanks Kindle... you know how these handlers are." Calming himself before he felt like throwing something else.

Finally looking over formally to Longview he says, "Careful with this one bud, she'll run ya ragged if you're not careful! Y'all seem to have something in common too, based on the look of your smooth index finger." Extending his hand to the unfamiliar GELF he blurts, "Name's Masraik, maybe we'll work together sometime."

ooc: Just a tad ooc note, but Kindle's appearance is quite obviously cyborg, being over 80% metal. Also, Masraik is a Pure One, not a GELF (althought I don't know if your character is making an assumption based on appeareance like mine is about Longview, or if ya just missed it) I'm having lots of fun! Keep those posts rollin in!

OOC: Way too many OOC posts in IC section... egh. I was excited to see the huge boost in post count. :(

IC: When the hulking gray thing walked over it was like being punched in the face by his anger. Quantas' hand slowly stroked through his hair and started rubbing his temple. It was sort of like a headache in a way. He finally stopped being enraged and it subsided enough to focus again. "Smooth index? I don't get it," he said. Truthfully, he had to say he wasn't very impressed by the big guy so far. He was probably a force to be reckoned with in the field though, by the looks of him. "If you mean I shoot things, then yes, I have been known to be deadly accurate with a variety of ranged weapons," he said with a sheepish grin. "What about you? From the looks of it I'd say you like to play baseball with people's craniums, but that's just an educated guess. Heh." Past Masraik's immense shoulder, he glanced at the clock. "Time to get to the briefing I guess. We can talk after, I'm sure. Shall we?"

ooc: sorry for the short post, but I'm moving and this is all I could muster before having to go back to work.

Walking with Longview towards the briefing he continues the conversation. "'Baseball with people's craniums' is only something I resort to when left with no other options. Generally I do try to be civil in the way I mutilate my victim" he says with a twisted yet angry grin. Being stereotyped as a muscle with no brains came often from people seeing him at first glance. It seemed he must constantly remind those around him that he was in fact a Pure One of superior intelligence and skill, and manners when properly treated. Maybe, just maybe, talking to another Pure One would help change his increasingly bitter view of the populations attitude at this organization. Yes, there are those Impures that gawk and stare and praise me as they should, but a little respect from other "potentials" would be delightful.

Giving Longview a sidelong glance, he continued to try and figure this one out. Either he has one hell of a migraine, he's incredibly impatient with anything around him, or he's somehow picking up on some sort of biological EMP from other peoples interactions... why else would he flinch any time someone talked to him? As for this attitude; does he mock me? Is this some sort of innocent front to cover a deep psychosis? Maybe he's a bumbling fool with a little know how? Or, more likely... since he's going to this briefing, he's competent and quiet accurate in his skills, and only testing us with this "boyish" charm. Exactly how old is he anyways...

Interrupted in thought by movement from the always chipper and hyperactive Kindle, he thought back to experiences with her. Mostly the interactions have been restricted to the mess hall or training sessions, but there was once that they had a mission together. Hmm, that was probably about a year ago. She's proved useful in watching my back, and she's quick. In fact, she's quicker than an Impure should be, sharp, aware, and impressive with her tactics. From what I was told, she's also the one who recovered my arm when I went berserk... I came to with half a building on my head. Man I wish I remembered what had happened.

Completely lost in thought again, he just kept a mindless march towards the briefing.

Kindle quickened her pace towards the briefing room: "ya, I'm sure we'll have plenty of time after we know the mission."

Her head itched for a moment, and she reached her hand under the side of her wig to give it a quick scratch, "Well then, shall we see what's in store for us?"

With that, she marched into the briefing room, ahead of Masraik and Longview.

Abaddon took his arm as he stood, and walked with him away from the mess hall. She smiled a grim smile, and said, "Right. And then we will, of course, be obliged to do as they instruct for letting us be awakened again to live life for another few days or weeks, just to be put in the freezer again afterwords." She sighed, wrapping her fingers more tightly around Azra's arm. "You know, it neat and all to see how the human species has progressed over the centuries, but it is really damned boring. I kinda want to live my life with them again, like we did in the old days..."

The reached the lifts that would take them to the red level. She gestured with her head. "Shall we?"

Not waiting for a reply from the twitchy man beside him when they reached the briefing room, he marched in behind Kindle to find a seat. I bit frustrated from the entire ordeal with the newly acquinted Longview, and his reaction to himself, he sat down in a bit of a huff. Leaning back in his chair he mulled over everything that had already happened that day.

Thinking to himself, "This had better not be another waste of my time today. And that bloody commander..." Reaching up to scratch the back of his head, he realizes that he had been gripping the arm rest of his chair a bit too hard and accidentally left his hand imprint in the metal. "Ah damn it, I did it again! That bloody commander! This just keeps getting better and better..."

Looking up at the clock, he tries to calm himself and wait patiently for the rest of the time remaining until the meeting.

OOC: ALrighty this is probably gonna be a long one... anyone who has not yet enetered the breifing room may feel free to do so before the breifing starts for the sake of not having to ask "what did I miss". Pardon the minor PWP Mir.

Oh, and Masraik, in general I find it helpfel to use a different set of "quation marks" for internal thought, such as <>, or {} instead of "" I find it helps clearly delinate internal monologue from external. Helps other people keep from accidentally commenting on something they wouldn't have heard.

    IC:
"That Abbadon is my fondest wish. Though there are certain one's I'd like to spend more time with than others." He said, squeezing her arm. They enetered the lift, pressed red level, and were immediately bathed in the green laser of the biometric laser. It scanned them, then with an acknoledging ding the lift began to rise. After a few moments they entered the Breifing room, and found seats. Once everone was present, The door slid closed and locked with an audible click. The quiet hummof a security field filled the room, blocking all transmissions and sound waves from leaving or entering the room. It represented a large power draw, and signlaed almost as much as the other evidence that this was going to be a big mission.

Azrael felt the heavy sensation of pre-battle dread settle in his stomach like a lump of lead. He couldn't help it. He had been in more battles than almost any other being on the face of the planet, and yet every time there came the dread, it would remain with him until first blood, and then he would feel that fierce rush of energy, and the joy of battle would carry him away. For now though he would have to deal with the dread.

After a moment the lights dimmed and heavy bootfalls could be heard approachign from the back room. Then out stepped General Train. He was one of the few humans they had fitted with a neural imager, an item that allowed his mind to be mapped and recorded by a small implant. This allowed him, even without the advantage of Genmem, to be effectively immortal with the accelerated cloning technology the protocols had perfected. It seemed he was fairly fresh out of a new clone as he looked to be about the same age as when Azrael had last seen him some sixty years ago.

He was a large man, thick in the arm and broad at the shoulder. He wore a perfectly fitted and pressed uniform of Deep green, his chest and shoulders decorated with medals and awards. His skin was dark as pitch and his head and face were cleanshaven. He was also the most brilliant tactical mind the protocols had ever found. Azrael liked him.

He looked over the group, nodding in acknoledgement to them, then his deep voice boomed out in the military tone he used without even thinking about any more. If he had a voice that didn't boom and command it had been lost century's ago. Azrael listened intently, even as he wondered why Train's mind didn't suffer the stress fractures that the Pure ones did... probably because he hadn't been in combat as much. Or died nearly as often.

Train spoke, "Alright everyone, listen up. We got a bad situation on our hands, potentially one of the biggest disasters we've ever faced. For the last several decades we've been content to fight a war of attrition. We've got the tech to beat any Corponation force at six or seven to one easily, 9 or 10, if we're lucky. Unfortunately even the smallest outnumbers us 30 or 40 to one. But their tech is stagnant and dieing while ours only gets better. When we first started out we had to pull guerilla raids just to feed ourselves, now we can strike at production facilities almost at will."

He took a deep breath shook his head as if to clear it and went on. <Damn he must be rattled he knows that we know these things, why is he telling us?> "The thing is a war of attrition only wins us the war if the enemy is actually wearing down. So far this has been the case, we see fewer and fewer of their bases and soldiers equiped with pre-collapse tech, and what we do see is generally falling apart or hobbled together from three or four different things. Soon all we'll have to worry about is numbers, and that we can deal with easily enough. The problem we now face, is that it appears the North American Corponation has discovered the Arc."

The sense of dread seemed to magnify in Azrael's stomach. The Arc? That old legend? The protocls had spent Untold numbers of missions searchign for the Arc. Train continued speaking after letting that little tidbit sink in. "As you all probably know the Arc was a pre-collapse military base, built by one of the most powerful nations on the planet back just before things went bad. It was built as a sort of Doomsday reset, it contained information on all of their technology, science, culture, and history. It was supposed to be the single greatest collection of human knowledge ever assembled. It is also reported to have contained two other great prizes, a complete genome for every living species on the planet and the command center for a reserve set of nuclear missle silos."

"It would be a total disaster if the NA Corpornation acheived pre-collapse tech. They could easily overwhelm the other Corponations then, and with airplanes they could bypass the shield wall. And from what we've heard they have already secured the base. They probably haven't decrypted the computer banks, let alone started gathering the data, but it won't take them long. your primary objective is to get into the base, and, if possible secure all available data via quick loaders which you will be issued, and then to destroy the base utterly. Secondary objectives are to retrieve the genome database which is stored seperately from the primary data, and to use the nuclear missles to strike at the Chinese Corponation, the largest of the corponations. With any luck they will trace the attack back to North America, and then respond. A war between the North American and Asiatic Corponations, might be just enough to destabilize the whole shebang, allowing us to mop up the pieces."

Looking around the room scanning faces and reactions he nodded, then continued "We have no idea what you will be facing in there, we know that the NA has brought in its top techs and armed forces to hold the place, so hopefully destroying the base will wipe out their top echelons of soldiers and so called scientists. They will probably have put a lot of the pre collapse weaponry to use, they are familiar with most of that, and possibly even brought the security system on line. Be careful. This mission is of utmost importance, and once they know that we know, we won't get a second chance."

"Your terminals will now have access to dossiers and intel on each other, and on whatever we know about your destination, which, frankly, is not much. You will all be issued Self destruct killswitches, that will, in the event of the end of your life destroy every trace of your body, in the event of your failure, we can not also hand the NA Protocol tech on a silver platter. Questions?"
