    Hate Crimes Bill

    I cannot believe that this bill might be passed. On May 5, 2009, this bill passed the House of Representatives and is now on its way towards the Senate where it is likely to be passed. This bill provides special protection for certain groups (races, sexual orientation, etc.). I advise everyone to learn about it and see just how 'awesome' our new goverment is.

    Why do we need CHANGE when our country is the world's biggest superpower? Do we need to CHANGE our freedoms?

    Essentially, this is a step towards socialism, then communism.

    Exactly what is it that you find controversial about this? And how the hell do you connect this with communism? You couldn't resist using the magic word?

    If you can get arrested for beating up communists for being communists, you're just making it easier for them. Before we know it, they'll be everywhere!

    Why the heck would you want government to do regulations in a free market?

    Why the heck would the government want to control thing like non-renewable natual ressource usage, industrial waste disposal or ensuring humane work conditions for the lower echelon of the work force?

    Why would anyone possibly want the government to help prevent the economy from spiraling up and down like a crazy yoyo?

    Real American men just know how to take their recession, announce to their wife that they lost their job and stay home all day.

    I said nothing about Joe McCarthy and his scare tactics. Exactly what do I find controversial about this hmm? Um.... human rights maybe? This will provide certain groups to have more protected rights then others and therefore making this bill unconstitutional. In our Constitution all people are treated fairly, i.e. Amendment 14:

    "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

    It's already enough coverage for every person. The new hate crimes bill is trying to elevate certain groups of others and making it illegal to even SAY something bad about a group, or else committing a felony. Even Pedophiles will be covered under this bill, but of course not veterans, lol.

    And to answer your question, yes I couldn't resist the magic word. I fear the new far-left that has taken a hold of American politics. The American people are forgetting their origins and what made them great. They are using a down economy to push an agenda that otherwise would never be pushed.

    Ex 2: MANDATORY public service bill. Was shot down recently, and has been changed to 'voluntary'. So far, it hasn't come back up, but it was supported by the Obama administration. If this pass, a certain amount of community service was REQUIRED to graduate high school. Another loss of freedoms. You go to school to learn, not work for free.

    Sarcasm. Another clear troll remark. Free markets are best because only the strong surivive. I do not believe we are all equal, some work harder then others. Also, this is not the topic I wanted to speak of, way to avoid the topic. Focus on the bill and then give me feed back. Bills being passed on human rights should have nothing to do with an economy, good or bad. You do not take someone's rights away simply because the market is down. I never made any instance about being conservative or liberal. There is some good ideas on both sides, and some radical ones as well.

    I don't mind helping the helpless, but not the clueless. Too many clueless people these days getting help.

    Then why don't you post something about the bill instead of making silly remarks about communists? Maybe you'd have gotten a serious response if you'd made a serious post.

    It was more of an opportunity for other to educate themselves (if they are American), about their new goverment.

    So go ahead and check out that bill, or controversies surrounding it. I understand Catty that you aren't American so I don't really mind either way.

    The law should apply to everyone equally.
    Unfortunately, common sense doesn't pay as well as minority interest groups.

    Do you see the part where it says 'based on the victim's ....' that is exactly where they need to stop. EVERYONE is supposed to get exactly protection under the law. Not people with ...sexual orientation, gener, gender identity or disability. EVERYONE.

    This is all I was trying to prove. You investigate and prosecute ALL crimes equally. But like VT2 said, minority groups have coalitions that pay those democrats to pass this stuff. (In this case, it was a large group of homosexuals, but im ignoring that).

    Everyone gets that protection. If a black gay woman in a wheelchair starts beating up white men because they're white it's motivated by race and it is a more serious crime.

    If she did the same stuff here in Sweden, she'd get punished for it, to the very letter of the law.

    Likewise, if a white man beat up a black, gay woman in a wheelchair in America, he'd get the hammer brought down hard on him for it.

    If he did that here, he'd get punished for it without it being based on race, sexual orientation, disabilities, or what have you.

    The problem with the world is that people are so horny for being politically correct, that they simply can't get past the color of your skin, or who you sleep with.
    Both of those should make zero difference - which is also why justice works best if it's blind.

    Exactly VT2, its all about the crime committed, and not whom it was committed to. Crime targets certain groups, but our justice cannot. That is what seperates good from evil.

    This bill cannot be passed simply because it is unconstitutional. It simply decribes special treatment for individuals which should never be the case. People often think of themselves when they seek justice. Not everyone.

    Yes don't bother posting any reasoning for that statement, who needs facts when there's uninformed opinion?

    You study a lot of Swedish law, do you? Check out "brottsbalken" 29kap 2 §.

    You're a rapist if you rape, regardless of the color on your face.
    This statement is completely irrelevant with concern to this suggested bill... It doesn't protect rapists with any kind of colour on their faces. All it does is state that crimes motivated by for example racism are hate crimes. There's no assumption that it is a hate crime just because the victim is of a minority group.
