    Should I Return

I quit because I didn't have time to play anymore with school. Summer is now here, and I'll have time, but is it worth getting re-addicted to this game, or has the game continued to get worse and worse?

the game is more stable, but basically stale. nothing new, no new players. the last message from Brian and Sean stated that they are "struggling to keep this game alive on their own time, own penny" basically letting us know that soon it will be shut down and dont be surprised, because it is not their fault but the player base's fault for cheating.

dont bother coming back, the game will be dead soon :(

I suspected as much hence I gave my own suggestion (in the suggestions section) on how they could go about dealing with scripters (which seem to be the biggest problem cheating wise). I'm pretty sure that all together we have enough IQ to reach an acceptable solution to the cheating problem.

the game is stable? how do you figure that when there are still major bugs that have existed since beta? we still have bad "non-ticks". we still have ticks that last 7+ minutes (the 5pm PST tick). We still get timeout errors at 2 min before most ticks.

    You call this stable?

and in response to the OP... nope... don't bother..

It's completely playable, and there's no argument to say that it's not. IF you even notice a quirk or bug, then it's not often. If you want to play the game, I don't see that the condition would be a hindering issue.

Yes, you should play next age. Game is fully playable. Biggest problem right now is the low player count, and the loads of near empty and half filled kingdoms. I suppose next age there'll be more equal kingdoms (more kingdoms with the same nr of provs) so wars will be more easily found, esp if the overpowered war machine dwarf/arti is fixed. Looking at how things are, next age might very well be the last, so play uto while it still exists! ;)

    1. Yes, it's quite a bit faster, mostly. But imo, it's only faster because thundergore has halved the # of provs...

And Sean, i didn't say it wasn't playable. i said it's not "stable" there IS a difference. and you must not have read my bugs list recently if you think bugs and quirks only pop up "once in a while". they happen constantly. so yes, while it is playable, and much more playable than last age, it still is not stable by any means

EDIT: The game just ticked at 6:23...

    that's stable? random ticks?

    ........................................................................

My ticks last 3 minutes - no more, no less - time to go for a quick smoke, make a forums post or grab something to eat or drink.

With the exception of the players being directly funneled into the kingdoms, the game is eminently playable. I'm sure that will be fixed for the
    new age.

Play! Definitely, play! You'll miss out on the fun if you don't.

Luth is confusing irregular behavior with stability. Your list of bugs and ticks don't lead to a disintegrating server. They're annoying to some people, not all. Those bugs affect everyone, although not everyone is bothered with them. Same with the ticks, as soon as the hour has changed we continue.

    Should you return?

    The answer is no.

There is nothing to be gained from playing Utopia.

You will lose time, sleep and opportunities to be productive in real life by playing it. It's dying, jaded and frustrating. The people who remain playing are the desperate few who cant seem to kick the habit and are disgruntled and abrasive. Have a good summer, be present in your own life. Invest the time and energy you would spend planning and socialising with Utopians into real life pursuits with people you know, meet new people in the world around you not some detached fantasy internet land.

    Good luck.
