    Math Problem!

I seen the math problem Palem posted, and unfortunatly i read it on a mind trap card few months back so I didnt wanna ruin anyones fun. (indeed you subtrat the 2 not add)

But I got my own i could never figure out for the longest time... maybe someone in the utopia community can figure it out faster than I did.

hmmmm however its a picture and I cant seem to upload it... hahaha gimme a minute ill try to make it my Avitar maybe

    EDIT
okay so i managed to wing it.... See my avatar to the left?....... well click on my name.... to see my Profile Picture.

they are similar triangles.... each triangle has 4 shapes (same shapes and colors in both triangles)

But when you rearrange the shapes you create an extra Square... that you will see on my profile picture.

    Does anyone know why?

too hard? or just people dont care to have to go to my profile... I thought it was real interesting Math problem, the awnser is actually quite simple.

^A better picture of the problem.

The answer is simple. The second triangle has an arc. If you'd like to verify that, just check to see if the lines share common spots.
(in this explaination, the left-most part of the triangle lies on x=0, y coordinates start at the bottom of the triangles at 0)
For instance, on the second triangle, the hypotenuse clearly goes through 5,2 because. If you check the first triangle, it falls below 5,2.

This arc hold the perceived 'missing area'.

It is rather simple yes... and you are correct, I thought it was clever though is it not?

You could sit there for hours wondering it before it kicks you in the face.

The simplistic awnser would have been to simply calculate the slopes of the two different colord triangles

thanks palem for the attachment since my n00b ass couldnt figure it out.

"they are similar triangles.... each triangle has 4 shapes (same shapes and colors in both triangles)"
They are not congruent, and have different areas (the triangles.) So the shapes which are congruent in both leave a gap in the larger triangle.

In Palem's picture, notice the upturn of the hypotenuse of the top triangle where it meets the blue triangle which gives the illusion that they are the same size.
