A church is a building, ritual space is not a church.

A church is not a building, but a building can be a church.

but they do have holy places.
i always thougth about religion as set of tools\rules for acting out your faith.
you have faith in god, you know god is real - that's faith.
you want to show your faith by going to churches once a week or doing rite's for your god? that's a religion

    you welcome.
my point was: you said "A church is a building, ritual space is not a church.", i'm saying that ritual space is tool, just like church.
but, if you already discussed that in the one post between #286 and my #288, then ok.

edit: my bad, i hust now see that i quoted the wrong post - my post about #286.

just a little elaboration, a church actually refers to the congregation, no building needed.

    like bishop said

It all depends on how you look at it, just because you (or me for that matter) believes it means that, doesn't mean it is true.

the great thing about religions is the history and how far involved it is (Since when?) how far can we date religion and written history?

How far can we date back history and science? ( maybe a couple thousand at best? just the same as religion?)

    Science vs Religion

Science is out to prove itself wrong for the longest time! <--- Science in itself is a theory

Religion is a science in a way it is an ideal "A Theory" of something greater than ourselves beyond our comprehension or understanding hereof (I know redundant fallacy)

(I didn't read all 20 pages, I skimmed through the last one and came up with this)

And if you want some thought provoking food

"Order is righteous, Order is pure. Chaos is evil, Chaos is impure. A church restores order, the church has power. A government seeks to control chaos, only to make room for new chaos"

Order is divine: Chaos is wicked
Religion is Order: Science is Chaos

(Okay. . . . this is just a generalization, so have fun!)

Religion caused more wars and death which most people consider chaos than science has.

Religion also played a big role in uniting the world.

Awful people use religion to manipulate people into doing awful things. Corrupt pope's are responsible for the crusades. The Taiping rebellion had a leader who claimed he was Jesus' younger brother. Hitler had serious mental issues.

That doesn't mean religion creates chaos/evil.

What about Henry the VIII and the Church of England.. then Mary slaughtering all of the Protestants to return Catholicism to England? Both sides slaughtered innocent people in their own name, not the pope. Churches blessed both sides of WWII. Maybe they bet on both sides so they still back the winning team.

Using the same ideal principle to control the masses into passive-aggressive and/or not including, nor excluding using Psychology to create a world that is not true ;D

    Thus further proving my point.
Unless you're trying to pass off Henry the VIII as a good guy or something lol

I'm sure you'd like to think that science has only gone and made kittens and puppies even cuter, but ever since people have figured out how to forge swords, we've been perfecting the best, most efficient way to kill each other. In fact, we've gotten so good at it, we have to put some ground rules or everyone would be dead.
