The far right New Conservative party (resulting from the merger between the older moderate Conservative Party and the far right Alliance, where Alliance got the upper hand in the merger) has a majority government atm, which means they can do whatever the hell they want until the next election.

Short of organizing massive civil disobedience, what the Canadian populace wants atm doesn't amount to jack **** until the next federal election.

Sad truth about the state of affairs in Canadian politics.

They already made it illegal to break copyright protection mechanisms (such as ripping DVDs) even if it's for personal use only (ie, you bought the DVD and you want to keep a digital backup for yourself).

If the Conservative party decides they want to implement this too, nothing is stopping them, least of all public opinion.

If the remainder of the country elects those morons again in the next federal election, I'm voting yes on the next referendum to separate from the country.

There have been similar bills in the US Congress that haven't been passed, but it is only matter of time.

Its already common practice in the US to allow lawyers/investigators to spy on your computer to search for specific files, it is also a common practice for the US DPHS to pay 2000$US to your ISP to tap your line. According to Wiki leaks most online video games, chat rooms, webphones etc, are monitored. .
