No you can't.
also at least 1/2 your acres need to be either built or building.

Not really. You can have as many acres in explore as you have built/under construction

It doesn't say so, which is a bit weird, but that's how it works anyway. Double up is the best you can do.

You'll get a message stating that you can't explore more if you try to explore more than your current built land + buildings in construction.
No of you are at 1000 acres and all are built the most you can explore is 1000 acres..... On the next tick if 50 acres come in you can explore another 50 once those new acres ate under construction.... Keep in mind they don't have to be finished...
