Well, the more common and realistic story I've heard is that Hellrazor was given controls recently and is the culprit.

It's not really much of a stretch to call creating a new channel with a similar sounding name and then starting to ban the people in the original channel a takeover attempt, you have a very narrow definition of a takeover when the common definition of the term is quite broad.
Also it's not even remotely a stretch to call randomly banning people for no reason "* Harassment of users or staff.".
Your ban is appropriate and well deserved regardless of what excuses you try to pull.

The "we can do whatever we want" rule is not so the ops can act as dictators and whatnot because they don't go around and randomly band people just because they feel like it. It's there so that people hell bent on being assholes can't cower behind some rule technicality like you are currently trying to do. Besides, it's a power/right they have whether they announce it or not as the operator/agents of the operator.
