    A question/discussion for Merchants

Do Merchant players feel the bonuses are enough to warrant the choice, do they feel content with their personality? What of people's opinions that have played Merchant in the past or are considering it, is the choice strong enough? Also, how do people play Merchant well and what race/s suit it?

it got a bit overnerfed after the initial proposed changes so almost nobody uses it. It will probably get a bit of a buff next age.

It's weighted more toward your medium attacker/hybrid types from what I see. IMHO humans are ideal in that they can fully exercise the build to offer significant aid and benefit from the credits bonus.
    * a welcome sight to your kingdom as pressure relief for ops and aid for HA.

^That. Merchant is awesome and when it had the immunity to income penalties it was really unmatched, but this age some other personalities are a bit more beneficial in terms of econ.

Sage is better than Merch, now that riots immunity is gone. If Sage is better, then something is terribly wrong.

What about the credits bonus? Or horde defense? -are the advantages of sage clear enough to overtake these war particulars?

Sage is only better then merchant if you run it early. If you're starting late then you're already behind in science and its better to just ride off the econ bonus of merchant.

I think what I'm getting at is that merchant with the credit bonus is aimed at war kingdoms and races that trad march; namely humans in war kingdoms. You need guys that can protect gc oow, and can push additional dragons in war. 9/10ths of Utopia is in ghettos where, IMHO, merchants equal sage.

Too late to run sages now,but human merchants is feasible if u are attacker and you never get hitted down

I'm assuming start of age conditions and reasonably active and capable kingdoms. If making a random province 5 weeks into the age, then Merchant is alright no matter where it lands, Sage is obviously crap, and the other personalities may not be compatible with where you land.
