    Clearing up a common misconception.

I notice on the forums that people are mixing up a crown (Syntico 2009) and a chart win, and thus inflating their crown count (ie, Godly actually only has 4 crowns, not 8). Allow me to explain what crowns are, and I highly suggest that a mod sticky this thread for future reference.

First of all, island wins are not worth anything, be it for Kingdom or Province. As well, racial wins in honor/land/nw are also not worth anything. Finally, war win crowns are also not crowns - it is a joke chart.

Next, comes the most important part; A crown is only a crown if, and only if, your kingdom wins land/nw together.

For example, if you played in Rage and Equilibrium of Absalom during age 33 where they split land and nw wins with each other, you would have half a crown. Should you win two half crowns in separate ages (as Rage and Equilibrium would do again in age 35), they aren't added together to form one crown. Instead, you would have two half crowns. For example, a Rage player who was there for ages 33 to 40, would have 1 crown and 2 half crowns.

Province crowns work the same way. You only earn a province crown if, and only if, you win province land/nw together. You get a half crown if you miss either one and they don't add with other half crowns from other ages to form full ones. For example, Proteus actually only has a half cow crown from Age 48 because he only took land.

Lastly, honor crowns are pretty straight forward. They are awarded to the top honor province and top honor kingdom. They are equal to a nw/land crown in value at 1 (ie, not a half crown that people perpetuate)

The crown system does not adjust for:
    - period (age 1-10's era and age 40-50's era is the same),
    - age length (8 week vs 17 week age is still one age),
    - alliance wars (Warcry's crown is worth the same),
    - player role (leader vs council vs peon - Proteus does not gain bonus points as leader), or
    - anecdotal story lines (Simians giving HoH charity crowns still counts)

A crown is a crown is a crown. Winning is winning, whether by 1 acre or 100,000 acres. Currently, the winningest player in utopia history is TheMango, aka phiwha. His crown count is at 12, which includes 10 kingdom crowns, 1 province crown, 1 honor crown, notably with Pansies, Seasons, Sonata, Dreams, and Pulsing Trollfags. His quest for 13 is currently in progress.

I believe Elit and Maclean round out the top 3, but I've forgotten the order. We would need to consult the crown curator Syntico for that one.

Final note, the crown system was designed by Crown Curator Syntico Yabuki, and this post was written with the express written consent of his royal Troll Ishtari-ness. Any inquiries shall be directed to the high troll council at #vintage on irc.utonet.org.

With the powers and honors vested on me, I felt a need to give back to the people. People be talking **** about having more crowns than me (I have 3, one of which is a b2b), when in reality, I'd have 6 in their ****ed up system.

In other words, the sought after treble is only a double! You exceeded yourself today, Realest. Kudos. The truth of the matter is that there are no crowns these days: anything post 29 is a debatable, post 39 a joke.

The treble in the modern era requires the addition of the province crown.

I thought the industry preference had switched to the absalometric system of crown counting.

Realest's preferred system is whatever method means he has more crowns than Don Proteus.

Sadly, NW crown (especially NW prov crown) is more useless than a racial land crown due to being able to game it like Nick_mi did last round with massive soldier aid.

Perhaps this weekend I'll come up with an accurate rating system based on kd role & adjustments for difficulty of round.

Oh, so we are talking about contemporary definitions, that I can swing with; it is in line with the blatantly evident devaluation of chart wins these days. In all honesty, though, you would probably be better off equating the contemporary treble a single crown, reserving a combined honor win for the hall of farmers. (saving the freudian slip).

Crown count is like the FG% of the NBA. Any advanced stats take into account PER#1% in the early ages.

Dear Godly. By that logic you also have to adjust land crowns for ease of growth, and honor crowns (hahaha) for honor viability. The fact that some races pump networth better than others is no less a tactical element of crowning than that some races gain land better than others. Makes little sense, really. If you want the networth crown, pick a setup that will give it to you - don't cry because you picked a worse setup than them.

Uh I'm referring to kingdoms who have everyone stock/release to 15 soldiers/acre and dump them to 1 province to win the NW crown.

I would go as far as to say that NW is a useless metric and can be fully removed from the game.

Yeah so if two ABS kds split a crown they could keep their e-peens hard with a full crown instead of half.

Furthermore, it makes no sense that you have to get both land+nw crown to equal an honor crown. You're putting WAY too much emphasis on honor crowns.

The metric should at least remove NW crowns from the equation, because yeah it would be a PITA to assign some kind of weight to leaders/harder round.

No matter what you do, you can argue age by age how situational / easy a crown was to obtain if you really want to put crowning under such a microscope. Furthermore by putting such stupid and screwy math into what a crown is and is not you are basically trivializing the whole concept of why you play this game in the first place. Typically we want to be #1. Whether you did so by allience or bottomfeeding or last day war win or whatever, you come out as #1 on the chart you won for that age. And if you need to parade around saying you won x # of crowns to try and look good well go ahead. Ill give you a virtual crown and you can say you have one more virtual crowns. And mine is fancy because its made out of 24 carat gold, and encrusted with all sorts of gemstones. Congrats!
