    Forts for attackers?

I am curious if in general, Forts are a useful building for most attackers.

Please posts reasons for why or why not.

    Thanks.

I'm returning to Utopia after many years of not playing, so still trying to get used to things.

Generally no. for example if you're running human or half and you plan on attacking its generally better to run TGs. With humans an equal bonus of defense will provide less numerically than offense as its modifying 4 compared to 6. Additionally lets say youre sending out, with higher offense you can send less troops out to break your opponent and as a direct result you have more defense at home. However if you plan on rarely attacking forts are a good option as it will increase your total def but make sending out a larger risk

What about with Orcs, where the elite is so offensive heavy, it doesn't add much to the defense?

Absolutely terrible on orcs. Youre getting such a minimal increase its just a waste of space.

So, it's not really possible to make an attacking province that has a defense that can actually prevent you from getting hit by other attackers?

You cant even create a tm that cant be broken unless larger in size.

Several years ago, this was very possible, I guess the game has changed a lot.

You can turtle a fair bit, but completely unbreakable in the same range has been removed since the 30s i think, bar one or 2 exceptions.

    Is turtling a decent strategy?

What happened in the 30's that changed it?

elite creep. Offense kept increasing but defence stayed the same. This was scaled back a couple ages ago, but all defence was dropped drastically too. As a result of this most attackers run 2:1 leet/dspec thus forts are less useful (especially as those leets are more powerful in general)

hypothetically, why can't you run a high defense, because you need less offense to hit guys, since everyone is so offense centric?

Orc leet is 7 dspec is 4. Generally you have higher ome than dme due to honor. So when you get attacked they are sending half the number of leets to your specs meaning they suffer half the number of losses. also if you get chained your troops home desert and your def disappears. Why invest. As your def drops they will be able to increasingly hit you while your off and def is now low and they have high off and low def still

The thing I'm saying though, hypothetically, if everyone is running low defense, as long as your offense is enough to get successful attacks, if you had the rest in Def, you should be able to prevent yourself from getting hit by people of lower NW than you.

    Does this make sense?

There are way more offense mods than there are defense mods, people typically run twice as much offence as defense, minimum.

Go play faery if youre so worried about not getting hit. You're an attacker, attack dont obsess over not getting hit. If they hit you, then have the offense to hit them back twice as hard
