it's decent attrition rates for enemy army if you have a rogue that cheekily does a GA number on all enemy farms.
But by far and large its seldom done, usually the rare non-undead that is low on food and forgets to build farms, then yes it will be a field day on provs who only come online to hit.

Well the fact barrens also produce food makes this even more difficult. I can see it working, but it is just reliant on enemy inactivity.
