To be fair, it's a representational democracy.

I think the constitution makes it a republic. You can't just vote things away etc.

I am not remotely schooled on politics but this terrible looking website could perhaps clarify.

Incase it is tl;dr here is a video that I think really is just fear mongering that America is becoming an oligarchy but meh still explains the differences reasonably.

It was made by a christian ultraconservative far right wing group, so basically Tea Party cronies and it's hilariously biased I'd say.

Maybe it describes how the US Republic works but it bears little resemblance to the historical republics or the actual origin of the word which just used to mean citizen rule for the public good or something along those lines which technically makes it a form of democracy but clearly distinct from direct democracy which was the norm at the time, so basically it's something that's not authoritarian in nature nor a direct democracy.

Hell the greek origin politeia which was translated into latin as Res Publiccould technically be any form of government working for the public good, hence it's strictly not wrong of the Soviet Union to call itself the union of soviet socialist republics.

And from your text "Bearing in mind that each individual is equally sovereign in a republic, he is free to reject the majority. He may choose to follow the majority and subject himself to the rule, or he may choose not to follow the majority and not subject himself to the rule. The minority has a voice and rights to refuse to accept the majority. Everything is advisory in a republic. This brings liberty and peace to the realm."
So clearly the United States is not a republic because the government can clearly overrule the wishes of a single individual and has done so on many occasions. So, glad we sorted that out :P

And now we know why it's supposed to be "our problem". Because Russia is arming lunatics who doesn't have the moral reservation to bother confirming the identity of a target before shooting it down.
Who knows what Russia will give them next and who knows what they'll do with it? Maybe next the rebels will "find" a Topol-M "at the local army surplus store" and then what?
The Kremlin is inhabited by a crazy man and if we don't tell him when enough is enough we'll soon have another "Danzig or war" event(unless it's already upon us that is).

Yes, I've heard of it and propaganda is what Russian news media is spinning out tonnes of it right now with every story more ludicrous than the previous one.

Have you heard the one where Russian media claims that MH17 was in fact MH370. That it didn't disappear, it was a CIA operation where they took it to a US airforce base, loaded it up with corpses(or killed the original passengers), flew it to the Netherlands, took off and then detonated it over Ukraine to blame the rebels.

The two competing theories at the moment is that either the rebels shot it down or the Ukrainians did. What points against the Ukrainians doing it is the fact that the rebels didn't have any aircraft of that size, in fact they barely had any aircraft at all, if they had any it was small propeller aircraft with a single engine flying at low heights, so it stands beyond reason to claim that they mistook a Boeing 777 flying at 10000 meters for a Cessna flying at 700 meters, the Boeing has more than 5 times the radar cross-section of the Cessna, therefore it's impossible to mistake the one for the other.

Another popular Russian explanation is that The Ukrainians shot it down thinking it was Putin's aircraft, an aircraft of similar size but this claim is utterly ludicrous because the Ukrainian leadership would know that an hour after Putin's plane was shot down the entire bloody Russian army would be rolling across their borders and crushing the country like you would crush a mosquito.

On the other hand it is quite reasonable that the rebels shot the 777 down thinking it was a Ukrainian military transport aircraft, an aircraft of similar size and capable of flying at similar heights, what speaks for this fact is that the rebels have managed to down one of those before and that they twittered just after the crash that they shot down another one at the same location as MH17.

The third alternative is that this is all just an accident that happened to happen at an extremely unlikely time at an extremely unlikely place, it's not impossible, just very unlikely and that's why the black boxes needs to be examinated in order to rule out the possibility of an accident
So, I'm afraid that the indoctrinated one here is you, of that there can be little doubt.

lol some of the propaganda is entirely preposterous. Next they'll be claiming that they were under the assumption that aliens were onboard that plane. Look the plane crashed in a wheat field, oh looky here crop circles.

Oh wait now I hear on RT that Tupac and biggy were on that plane. ;)

seriously though the best way to point out that it is propaganda, is by making an equally plausible but more ludicrous theory
Corruption is a serious impediment to civil liberties.
