This is a good idea. Thanks for putting it together. I'll contact you through IRC if I'm in. One suggestion though I would have is to set a min/max value limit for the gift or at least that's just how I'm used to doing it.
Should be fun as long as everyone who commits actually follows through :)
I think value settings is a good way to make sure all gifts are more or less equal (to prevent someone gifting 50€, receiving 10€ back and complain to me :P), but I know several of the participants are making gifts themselves and not buying something. It's more difficult to put a value on something handcrafted. Do we count only the price of the material? Do we compute the workcosts, and how much is 1 workhour worth? I think it'll get fast rather complicated.
Also, for some people for example 20€ is pocket money, for others it's for above their budget.
As general rules, I'd say: don't spend more than you're capable to spend. Don't send anything you wouldn't like to receive yourself. Don't spend loads of money expecting you'll get priceless gifts back.
