Hi all!
Since the X-mas (or Christmas, Yule, Crimbo, holiday season or whatever) is getting near and we felt the jiggling of little elf spirits up into our stomachs, we'd like to propose the idea of Utopia's Secret Santa. This is a community initiative and not officially supported or connected to Utopia.
In short:
People can enlist to make or buy one or more gifts for someone or more persons. In return those people who enlist can receive one or more gifts from 'random' 'mysterious' Utopia people!
Those who join in on the fun have to send their info to me. You can do this either through forum PM (Nim) or IRC (Dumnorix on Utonet).
The info would exist off:
- Your nickname and/or real name (you choose if you want to share your real name with your Secret Santa, but it also depends if your postman delivers post addressed to "Stoned420" or "Hot_BimboXxX")
- Your address
- How many gifts you want to make (minimal 1, no maximum) --> for example person X makes three gifts, so that person gets three different addresses of Utopians to sent the gifts. Those can be different gifts, or copies of the same gift.
- If for the US you want to ship outside the US or for Europe/Asia/S America/Africa you want to ship outside of the respective continent (and yes, aussies are fake azns). If you don't let me know anything, I will assume you don't mind it.
After the enlist deadline I'll will make up a list of who will give who a gift through a random number generator.
For the gift: it doesn't have to be expensive, it's the idea that counts! You can either buy something or be creative and make something. Remember that it has to be shippable (a cake may not be the best idea) and it has be to legal (some countries like Australia prohibit food/booze to be shipped in, others don't mind).
For those wondering about high shipping costs: your gift (selfmade or bought) doesn't have to be big. For example I received two years ago for a different Secret Santa two flat felt grue's (think Zork) with fluorescent eyes and teeth and a felt penguin, both gifts fitted into a padded envelop!
The deadline for sign up's will be 10 November and I'll try to send out everyone's Secret Santa target 15 November (or a few days earlier).
Do remember that for international shipping it can take sometimes 3-4 weeks for a gift to arrive. If you think you're gift won't arrive in time for X-mas, let me know. I'll pass the word to your target.
