Good luck Sanctus. Had a good war against you at the start of the age, after which 3 of your guys joined our KD. Wish you all the best in this war. Link doesn't work though.

    Summary:

It was a decent war. My overall assessment is that UD Army had the advantage until up to about a week into this 16 day war.

That was when we massacred their T/M for the first time since hostile.

After that, the frequency of our T/Ms attacking increased, and we gradually opened up a NW gap on them.

    Timeline:

    Pre-war

War between both kingdoms was arranged beforehand, with hostile attacks to commence on May 22 Yr 11. Undead Army declared on the same date.

We however did not go big on the pre-war attacks, taking the meter to just over hostile, in case they delayed on declaring.

Massacred one of Undead Army's T/Ms, Julius Caesar, multiple times, and razed one of their attackers Naheed Nenshi. There were also several plunders done on their kingdom.

At the time, the rationale against sustaining a greater number of pre-war hits were the diminishing returns owing to gangbang protection, and the possibility of them delaying declaration.

Our first dragon was slow to be completed, only being sent on July 20 of Yr 11, some 46 hours after war was declared.

    First 2-3 days of War

    1. Target their Undeads in descending order of offense.

Our initial strategy was to deep chain, overpop, and force them to release armies, and ultimately make them easily breakable or less able to outgain our attackers with lower offence.

The overarching objective was to reduce their max offense as efficiently as possible.

    UDs are such capable scrappers.

It was difficult to keep them down for long, what with their inbuilt durability, and our need to cycle quickly through a large number of threatening targets.

Case in point: Vladimir Lenin was our first chain target. While not the highest offence in their kingdom, he had no incoming gains because he massacred one of our provinces during pre-war. So we chained him first.

We got him down from about 1400 acres to 300+ acres within the first 24 hours.

However, we could not reduce him any further, not without neglecting other far larger and threatening targets.

He subsequently rose back up in size again over the course of the war to his present 1.7k acre size.

    4-5 days in

Their offense (and attacker headcount) advantage really started to show. They opened up a sizable land and NW gap over us, coming to about 2000 acres and 300k - 400k NW.

We made many big anonymized hits, the value of which is of course not reflected in the war stats posted above.

    5 days in

The prognosis was bleak as we were unable to close the land and NW gap.

They were whittling our attackers down faster than we could do theirs.

Also, our dragon funding and slaying was considerably slower than theirs.

The possibility of withdrawal was discussed, contingent on the success of the next part of the next part of our strategy.

    2. Make our T/Ms at the top of our NW tier UB, both through reducing UD Army's max offence, and raising our T/Ms' defence.

Our T/Ms at the top did not initially join the attack. They were focused on aiding, T/M ops, and dragon funding.

    7 days in - 10 days in

This period was the turning point.

It was only after they had reduced our last highest NW pure attacker above 200k NW to below 200k NW, that the first of our T/Ms (Firebirds Haven) finally arrived at the necessary defence to safely attack.

We had her make some big land hits initially, to consolidate her size advantage and gain the economic benefits of that added land.

However, the land gained reduced her wpa and tpa to the point where she basically became an Elf attacker for the rest of the war.

Subsequently, more of our faery T/Ms were able to join in the attacking.

Instead of land hits, we put them on razes of UD Army's highest offense attackers, while all of them continued to train offense.

Breaking their T/Ms, Julius Caesar, Ali, tastier, and Genghis, was the end-game, and we just about got our T/Ms over that line.

We were still behind in land at this point, but both kingdoms' NW had equalized, which stayed that way during this period.

10 days in - 16 days (end of war)

We had 6 UB provinces (all T/Ms), 4 of which had the offense necessary to break their T/Ms.

They had a roving role, from reining in those of UD Army's pure attackers who had grown beyond our pure attackers, to massacring / razing their T/Ms, which proved crucial.

All of our pure attackers were under 180k NW by this point, and were out of range of their T/Ms, so our pure attackers were tasked with holding down the fort at the middle and bottom NW tiers, maximizing land and military losses on selected targets.

It was basically a continual land-swap in the middle and bottom tier, which meant our pure attackers were fighting a holding action while we maneuvered our (attacking) T/Ms at the top to inflict the most NW damage.

This period was when we substantively reversed the NW gap they had on us.

The successful massacres of their T/Ms, Genghis Khan in particular, enabled our T/Ms to NS theirs, which only increased our upward NW momentum.

We subsequently regained land advantage during this period, as a handful of their provinces by this stage did not sustain their activity.

Also, we successfully PKed two of their provinces, Fernando and Kim Jong ll, the former about 4 days in, and the latter about 9 days in.

Largely cosmetic victory in terms of the bigger picture perhaps.

However, forcing them to sit out the war for the duration of their protection phase was at least a small boon to our low NW tier attackers, I'm sure.

Last but definitely not least, I want to commend our steward, Natural Born Scyllas.

He did great work crunching the numbers and assisting with the micro and macro strategy.

Congratulations Max et al... hard wars won are all the more sweeter.

And thanks for sharing, as I mentioned with our thread of our war, we need more people to join in on the war reporting!

    @Max, for a 16day 2hour war, that was a beautifully concise post.

    My 2 cents:

It was a very well fought war on both sides for the first 10 days. Sanctus faced a challenge in adjusting its strategy to fit the new kingdom build. Lost attackers were replaced with T/Ms, with the long term thought of valuable, reliable players versus temporary, whimsical ones. We took strong players in the roles they were already in, but I must say, they did not disappoint. Cheers to them for joining us so late in the age and holding their own and then some.

With 11 attackers (Sanctus) vs 17 attackers (UD Army) there was bound to be an uphill struggle for Sanctus to maintain acres. The sheer force of the quantity of generals and MO of the UD Army was indeed overwhelming. The utilization of it had been left wanting. In the race for destroying all ability to make efficient, worthwhile attacks, UD Army had the upper hand if the situation was dealt with differently. The UD Army did not start deep chains till Day 4+.

With the foresight of having the best strategy used against us, it was deemed impossible to effectively hew down their T/Ms capabilities with massacres to a point where they would have trouble casting on our attackers (we would have needed numerous massacres on each target). Prior to the 7-10th day climax of initial massacres on the UD Army's T/Ms, any single wave of Sanctus that included a massacre would have been met with a deep chain of one of the few attackers Sanctus had (no incoming acres is the easiest opportunity). UD Army's T/M group was a force to reckon with, few but strong. I must commend UD Army T/M's build, diligent activity and upkeep of blanket spells and ops.

With respect to Dragon funding: Sanctus had a rocky beginning, not just smooth pebbles-rocky but slamming into a jagged cliff-rocky. However, after the 1st fund and slay(improved economy), it was like they took the hammer of Thor to that cliff.

With respect to T/M turned attacker: Team effort there, the heavy attackers fought in the pit, forgoing major aid, and keeping the MO's at bay. Some T/Ms covered blanket spells while the required T/Ms aided, ToG over the addictive urge to cast more offensive spells (we all know that's a tough one to resist). The success of the mission is credited to intel gatherers, number crunchers, sleepless endurance of attackers & T/Ms, team effort, SANCTUS!

With respect to the 2 PKs: Dying in utopia is an arduous affair where the person who's dying really needs to aid the cause of the PK. It may have played into the hands of the UD Army's scheme. The nw and MO of the provinces may have been better left in the deep chained state but the 72hr + 72hr respite of 8 less generals taking big acres in the exchange of land was a definite pro over con in this instance.

hiya! wow didnt know we make our names here.

im Adolf, steward of Undead Army. its been great honor to be featured here since we are a ghetto kingdom playing casually for the past few years.

its great to see this analysis and discussion. congrats to Sanctus on this win. you guys deserve it and great kudos to your strategy.

even though we lost, i would like to thank my whole kingdom for staying up whole war and committed to it even though we are mostly bunch of lads who play casually. its was our first war than span more than 5 days XD and damn this war is tiring.

based on my opinion, our kingdom setup are not able to sustain any war above 5-6 real days as our tms are mostly small-average in size and we got no banks. funding dragons is hard as you took most of our active merchants out so early. and yes 2 PK provinces because they were sidelined with real life issues.

the start of the war look great because we were superior in quantity of attackers and we utilized plague as much as we can. we tried to hold the acres so we can hurt you attackers in the long run and make heavy massacres on 3 of your tms to take them out. but sadly, we couldnt sustain the long war, no bank rollers to rebuild / retrain and most importantly we did not see your end game which is converting ur big tms into attackers. by then, our MO went dry and our defence are crappy.

none the less, it was a fun war and we really enjoyed it. personally, the adrenaline to wake up and war for 16 days was awesome.

thanks for the war and lesson. see you next age!
