My laptop is currently broken and am playing completely from my iPhone. I am aware iOS only let's you keep the IRC application open for 10 minutes in the background. Has anybody found a way round this to keep it connected. Wish I'd stuck to android now.
Jailbreak it and remove such limits!

IrcCloud is the only app with a function in settings which keeps your phone connected. Problem solved.

Most apps tell me I need iOS7 or higher.

your first mistake was using an iphone/ipad....
It was a strategic decision to embrace challenge. I have a Microsoft Surface as a backup that could do all the challenge killing stuff I could want.
I enjoy playing Utopia without intel sites or chats. It's quite a nice game, raw.
