    1. you still need an android or windows phone or blackberry
    2. on your pc go to web.whatsapp.com (only in the browser firefox or chrome or opera, not in internet explorer)
    3. scan the qr code with your android or windows phone or blackberry
    4. press the green button to reload
    5. on your android or windows phone or blackberry go to web.whatsapp.com and scan the qr code

    that's it

optional is to check desktop messages, apparently that will allow you to keep your android or windows phone or blackberry in your pocket, but you still need to keep it near your pc

Slightly off-topic, but I've been using Discord and it works pretty well for me. Can use on PC or mobile.

Not sure since I don't use Whatsapp.

I can say this about discord though:

    -Super easy to use
-You can set up bots (if you want)
-Haven't heard any complaints about mobile (I don't use it on mobile, so I couldn't say)
-Free and you don't need to give out your number (Some people aren't comfortable doing that)

Just a suggestion to look into if you're looking for another chat program :)
