Sounds to me there is restrictions to freedom of speech when you limit people's ability to express their opinion which isn't going against the rules.

maybe next we'll get a list of subjects we are allowed to discuss? So we can freely express ourselves..within the regulated guide lines.
Legally speaking he is correct, they make the rules, we are guests at their mercy. Freedom of speech is not a guaranteed right in Utopia.

Yeah, permaban from game for forum activity is pretty ridiculous. I mean, unless it's something severe like making IRL threats, severe cyberbullying, stuff like that.
People "defame" each other on this forum all the time. Nobody ever gets permabanned from the game for it.
But it's their game, they make the rules I guess.

I don't care that they banned Bart. It's the implications I mind.
There is this "amazin..whatever his name is dude" or "rogue blah blah dude" who has said far worse about admins a lot more often for a much longer time. He, as far as I know, has not been banned from the game, not even temporarily. Others have openly accused Devs of favoritism, enabling foul play and even cheating. They received temporary forum bans at best.
So it leaves us with the questions: why bart? why now?
sure this could be all coincidental and not related at all to who may or may not chart. The thing is, it leaves a shadow of doubt with a large number of players. Founded or not, that is bad for the game.
Korp/Landro: This is not a freedom of speech situation at all. Assessing protected vs non-protected speech is a critical component of the defense against the prosecution's defamation charges. If we can prove that no defamation has taken place (or has likely taken place according to TOS), then the ban becomes nonsensical.
November 5th is going to be a big day for the defense team so stay tuned!
