You were missing that bit of knowledge. Any land hit that didn't have Anonymity, War Spoils, or an Avian involved can be ambushed as far as I know...
Now, go get those 9 acres back.

don't be racist they was the best pick until changes dropped their speed advantage and put most of the same advantage on tactician, there is just not enougth diffrence between -15% and -25% attack time for it to be worth it, I liked when they was -35% and you could get 3 uniques a day with the same army.
