    Thanksgiving Special Dishes

    Hello Utopians!

With Thanksgiving coming up, I thought it might be interesting to share a few special dishes that we make year after year beyond the traditional staples like turkey and apple pie.

You can post names, Grandma's recipe, a link to a recipe and/or pictures.

    Happy Turkey Day!

Sadly I can't cook meals for meat lovers xD, but man I can make drinks! :D

    Creamy Horchata!

1 Cup uncooked long grain brown rice
    2/3 cup of almonds
    4 cups of water
    1 tablespoon of maple syrup
    Amber Rum
    Ice
    Ground Cinnamon

Rinse the rice, throw it in a container with the almonds, cinnamon and water overnight.

Dump it all in a blender, add the syrup, and blend it till its all smooth. pour it through a mesh strainer to get rid of any chunkys

Throw some Ice in, the rum, and blend again! Serve on the rocks with some cinnamon on top and that'll make the fam love you :D

    Lazy Green Bean Casserole

Casserole dish, thinly butter the baking dish [lube]
I use frozen GB, thawed. Mix GB and can/jar Mushrooms including the liquid, Mushroom Soup is swell also just do not water it down, then pour into baking dish.
Sprinkle top with a lot of ricota cheese. Cover that with good amount of canned onion rings. You can make own onion rings but then its not Lazy.
Bake for 20 mins 375 degree OR until onion rings are real toasty. May take 35 mins depending on your oven.

As ALL ingrediants are precooked you may even nuke it but wont get as toasty a top.

I'm more of a baker than a cook but I do make this dish every year for the holidays. There's not really a recipe as I tweak it a bit every year.

    Streusel Sweet Potatoes
The important parts are the sweet potatoes (obviously), mashed to desired consistency; orange juice, and a little zest; pumpkin pie spice, or some blend of similar spices; and a streusel topping made of ginger snaps. Bake the sweet potatoes, juice/zest, and spices the way you like best. Towards the end of the bake time, top it with the ginger snap mixture and let it bake a little longer.

I never use the canned stuff with the syrup. But fresh sweet potatoes are a pain in the ass to deal with. So, you can either suffer through the fresh stuff or maybe try a puree or a good frozen brand.
