Star Wars: The Last Jedi *Spoilers*

*I just want to reiterate again, this is a spoilers thread. The movie has been out a week, it says spoilers in the title and I'm taking this time to warn you. If you get the movie spoiled at this point, you've only yourself to blame*

Star Wars fans have found this movie to be very polarizing. People are either declaring it the worst movie in the Star Wars franchise or the best one. I say I fall somewhere in the middle. I've seen it once and I liked it, but I didn't love it. The parts that I liked, I really loved. All the stuff with Rey, Kylo, and Luke. I loved the parallel between Like and Finn's stories. I loved the end. I loved the focus on the force itself vs the light vs dark side. I loved, loved, loved old crazy Yoda.

On the other hand, the stuff that I didn't like was really, really bad, which is why I get people's disdain for the movie. Basically the entire storyline of the resistance ship's escape was very poorly written. Superman Leia. The idea that a ship in space needs fuel to keep going. The commander refusing to clue in a concerned officer as to what the actual plan was. The Asian girl falling in love with Finn after knowing him less than one whole day. I could go on, but you get it. Getting absolutely no information about Snoke or really the first order.

Overall, I would say I liked it. It was good, but definitely not in the realm of the best Star Wars movies. What did you think of it?

Worst movie of all time, but the worst part is it made star wars not star wars. So not only was a bad movie but completely ruined Star Wars as a whole. Disney is pushing there princess theme while throwing in as many random politically correct characters. So you just have a bunch of randomly not thought out characters thrown together trying to appeal to a wider audience. Rip star wars it died the moment they sold it to Disney.

Kinda with Palem on this one. Had some enjoyable bits, but for me much of the plot devices seemed pretty contrived.

I really have trouble relating to, or believing some of the characters, I feel they are trying too hard to target either youth or mass appeal. Kylo is the epitome of this for me, pouty teen villain he is almost identical to the villain in that Harry Potter spin-off with Eddie Redmayne. Just looks like someone needs to slap them and they will come out of it.

Superman Leia was totally unnecessary, detracted from the film for sure.

I would say I liked the Force Awakens better than The Last Jedi, but that both of them are closer in quality to the Prequel Trilogy, than the Original. I would place Rogue One somewhere between Original Trilogy and Force Awakens, but it is closer to the Orginal, than the Prequel, imo.

Coldhearted's view is well taken, maybe a bit extreme- but I feel much the same as far as the franchise... I'll still see most the movies, likely, but I'll do it begrudgingly, until they redeem themselves or I just can't watch anymore!

Theres humor thrown in for the sake of just having it, not related to anything. Worst was the akward communication at the start

Poe dameron being the absolute mary sue again and a very anti climatic "battle" with snoke

100% agree on the superman part, they had plenty of opotunities to kill her off might as well get it done

    I'm sorry but...wut? Lol

Original trilogy did plenty of that. They threw in the token black guy. They pushed their strong female lead. They had random characters throughout to help reach a wider audience. They threw in ewalks for the kids.

People hold the original trilogy to way too high of a standard. Don't get me wrong, I love them, but they deserve just as much criticism as the other movies.

Hmmmm false, main characters fit into the story. They didn't randomly throw characters in that make little to no sense to the story. Also big difference was Disney bought a already wrote Star Wars universe that after the movies had a complete book series telling the official Star Wars story. They not only threw away this entire universe but have turned it into ****. Lando wasn't just a token black guy in the original and played a big role in the book series. Lea a general is just laughable, ray a random girl is powerful in the force? Force was a genetic thing that was passed from generation to generation. Why everyone thought her parents must have been someone. Also they made Luke Skywalker look like a b*tch, in what world would Star Wars fans accept that. Overall it was a bad movie acting wise, script wise, but worse yet it defied every thing that makes star wars unique. Kinda like if someone bought Star Trek and made the federation blood hungry warriors and Klingons peace loving flower picking good guys. It just doesn't fit, rant over.

Lando was the only black character in 3 movies (I mean...i guess technically Vader lol). I get that Lando wasn't actually the only black person in the Star Wars universe.

I'm not sure how you can watch the Original Trilogy and call Princess Leia being a general a joke. She had ice in her viens for 3 movies and afaik, was the acting commander at Hoth and I'm fairly certain (although I could be wrong) the only general shown in the Originals was a fairly serene looking woman.

I'm also not sure how you can watch the Originals and not come to the conclusion that Luke was some sort of a badass. He whined his way through the first two movies and in the last one he didn't actually beat anyone of importance. People act like Luke Skywalker would never give up but he spent pretty much his entire time training with Yoda telling him that he was asking him to do impossible things. Remember when he completely gave up on pulling his X-wing out of the swamp and Yoda had to do it for him? I mean seriously, of all the criticisms of TLK, this is by far the weakest. People thought of Luke as this all-mighty Jedi master who could never fail and I think this is very important to point out, but his entire story in the movie is based around the fact that galaxy believed him to be an all-mighty Jedi master and he knew that he wasn't that person. That's brilliant writing imo.

The force isn't strictly genetic. Anakin Skywalker was exactly what Rey was. A nobody from a backwater desert planet. More importantly, Jedi were forbidden from having families, so if the force was some sort of genetic inheritance, they would have quickly died off.

Random added characters that add little to nothing to the story:
    Admeral Ackbar
    Ewalks
    Rancor
    The Emperors Red Body Guards
    The jawas
The mean guys at the Cantina

There's a great big universe of Star Wars characters and most of them are pretty unimportant, just like this universe. I could go even deeper and question the overall relevance of characters like Boba Fett and Jaba the Hut, because the story really seems like it could work just fine without them added as well.

I do agree, the movie is polarizing. I can hand wave some of the science-y stuff, but the character development leaves much to be desired.

Rose and Finn are ****ing useless. That casino/rich people bull**** was precious screen time could've been used on Snoke or Kylo since they were obviously the best characters. Snoke deserved some background, not a future book/past memory sequence that may or may not enlighten us on his past and motivations.

They should've used Ackbar for the lightspeed kamikaze (why is that a thing now and not before), he deserved a proper goodbye.

Somehow they made Rey even more unlikeable. She comes from nothing (unless Kylo is lying) and I'm ok with that, but the 'balance' theme that makes her just as powerful as Kylo w/o any real effort is lame.

The Praetorian Guard could've been the 'Knights of Ren' for all I know, since they forgot about that in this movie.

Mark Hamil disagreed with the direction they were taking Luke, and I can see why.

The "Allah Ackbar!" jokes that would have followed would have lowered sales, guaranteed

Would have been better to just let Leia die rather than Superman. I suppose at the time they were thinking to continue using Fisher in the future.

I was laughing when the bombers came on screen, There is no gravity. What use is a bomber when the bombs shouldnt fall to begin with. Also if Luke could materialize out of no where and talk to people like Yoda and multiple others can . Why wouldnt Vader come back and tell Kylo to stop the BS since hes so obsessed with his grandfather to begin with. That would end everything.

Bombers - I think I saw somewhere that the idea was that there's gravity in the ship, so when the bombs fall in the ship and then out into space, they keep falling. I'm not actually sure if that still works, but at least it's more reasonable than bombs falling in space lol

    Anakin
Why he's not force projecting- he's dead lol
Why he's not talking with Kylo - No idea. We don't really know enough about force ghosts to say how it works

Yoda is dead and he can come back to talk to luke,so did Obi Wan ,dead obviously doesnt effect them with the force returning to council others.Just saying the entire war could end with 1 visit .

Anakin was turned at the end so maybe he doesn't want anything to do with Kylo at this point even if he could ghost it up.

Haha I forgot about the bombers, I supposed you could imagine some sort of minor propulsion system within the bombs themselves. Potentially the First Order ship is so large it has it enough gravity to draw them in once they are released from the 'bomber' ship.

If you want to knit-pick that kinda stuff, though, you can tear apart just about every scene in every SW movie, ever.
