    War Testing

    Unlike most ages in micro-kingdoms, we were fortunate in finding a war. War is a great environment for battle testing since every ability is in play by both sides. These micro-kingdom match ups allow us to see race and personality in full regalia; it was my pleasure to see opposition in the guise of another virtual kingdom build; the avian war hero.

    Now I've already tested the dwarf undead to some degree, so there was nothing learned as much as confirmed: durability allows us to concentrate elsewhere. What I did enjoy seeing, at my own detriment, was the avian war hero utility. Dragon immunity was in play since my kingdom sent 3 gold during the war.

    My impression was that the avian war hero player was experienced. While most of us understand the prime directive of training thieves, it becomes a little more of a prismatic dimension when applied to war hero and almost particular to avian. Long ago, flogger explained the idea behind halfling war hero to me and the effects of honor and dragon immunity: when 2 kingdoms war and they both send sapphire. Things have changed, but the remnants of old mechanics still linger.

    If we apply part of that logic to an attacker and express that difference through sabotage we create a duel threat, which this player accomplished. Consider the war hero spells in Pitfalls and War Spoils. By casting Pitfalls the war hero drew down my undead advantage and using War Spoils prevented me using my durability to ambush his offense. This guy was using his thieves liberally and effectively. Our gold dragons had no effect so I pondered his effectiveness had his kingdom sent a gold or sapphire.

    The opposition had some rather dormant provinces, which is to be expected in retirement micro-kingdoms. We can apply things we know to allow you to see the entire kata, as it were. The avian war hero was stealing my food but the opposing halfling never cast Gluttony. This can be seen as mercy, an unnecessary demonstration of power, or inactivity.
    None the less, we all understand the ramifications. This threat level was realized because the avian war hero player understood that dragon immunity and dragon attrition favored the dual threat.

    I'm not trying to convince others that they need to build dual thread avian war heroes. The abilities in attacking and sabotage unfettered by opposition dragons, and bolstered by their kingdoms dragons can be accomplished by specialists,..but they have to work together. I think it's important to shine a light on the player because it required a combined effort by my kingdom to get him under control.

    To give you an idea of the avian war hero formidability, he was able to double tap and ambush my province at the start of war and had a dominating sabotage advantage. By the end of war he was just below the ability to double tap, but was able to tap and ambush. His sabotage ability was rendered comparable to mine. Casting was a stalemate, but he had the ability to cast Pitfalls(offense) on me and War Spoils(defense/economy) on himself, while I had Animate Dead(defense). ~ At the beginning of war I could barely single tap the avian WH and just getting SoMs was difficult. By end of war, due to dragon effect, dragon slaying, multiple hits besides my own and plague, I was able to double tap his army home and triple his army out.

    Admittedly I just started this new build, but in war we can't match our adversaries to a vacuum of fair practices. Such advantages and disadvantages can be had at any level. play testing isn't about finding a nw match, but to see how the province handles adversity within my grasp of mechanics and tactics.

    Observing the A-Team

    For the newer players it's good to take a tour of the kingdoms by ranking. Number 2 in land, nw and honor with a 3-0 war record; let's look at the A-Team. If you press the nw tab you'll see an advanced clamp triad formation. From the center there's a nw spread of 811k to 968k where the entire battery of elf and faery form the belt. Attention to detail shows that the humans are roughly 50k apart through this center belt, which should indicate what in essence is the max gain firing arc. Since this is consistent with stand alone marching kinetics we can draw certain conclusions.

    The belt is capable of inexhaustible offense, but is in a characteristically defensive nw posture. One reason could be that the number one kingdom, Emeriti, taxes number 2 and it's best to have a land yielding top of dwarves and humans to surrender tax limited gains. The other reason is to have Emeriti well within nw/acre reach if they decide to take land from t/ms. It's more complicated than that but the fact is that the closer kingdoms are in nw the more efficient gains. Therefor we might be wise to first look at the A-Team as an acre digestion system for Emeriti.

    Acre digestion system? For the uninformed, we should regard the Utopian server as an African ecosystem; predators, omnivores, stuff that makes things harder like honey badgers and porcupines...

    I'll share an example. I'm in a very small kingdom so we have a reasonable nw advantage vs large kingdoms. A very large kingdom struck our king, but in retaliation my king brought back a much higher yield of acres. What happens is the very large kingdom learns that these are difficult acres, like trying to eat raw horse meat with a human digestion system. It's a factor they the huge kingdom understand, it simply depends if the target is or isn't intimidated. By proxy or coincidence, larger kingdoms than ours begin hitting our monarch but far smaller than the original perpetrator. Thus, the very large kingdom, can by proxy or dumb luck, gain acres by the predatory ecosystem. This is why guys like me account acres going up with greater scrutiny than acres going down.

    That wasn't a digression because it's important to understand the probability of linked destinies when you tangle with refined kingdoms.

    But yes, look at the nw alignment and observe the dwarves on top with human meat shields as the top clamp, t/m center hinge, with human bottom clamp. In a classic Freeakstyle formation we have a war simplified clamp with no center hinge. The entire attacker core is the bottom clamp and the t/m array are the top. Freeakstyle has proven the simplified clamp is superior in the war tier, but the triad has great function in whoring. The triad, in my observation of AMA and Cromulent Republic, shows these formations are idealized toward land whoring kingdoms that see more war than classically built whoring, augmented by diplomacy. This makes sense since AMAs heyday was in the throes of the Absalom alliance.

    Triads work based in center nw accumulations and has it's own acre/honor digestion system built into the kingdom itself. These accumulations and functional prowess seem complicated in architecture but are almost naturally occurring in practice.

    Essentially the lower clamp is on a yo-yo diet of acres and honor. These generally consist of attacker types who grind defenses to palatable levels so the center can feed leisurely. (Now none of these 3 elements are simply one function designs; I'm simplifying.)

    If we regard top killers as fangs then we can conceive the center t/m belt as the poison injected into the wound. In the A-Teams case the human meat shields are the killers and the dwarves are frustrated cows. How do we know this? It's mechanics, but even if you don't understand the mechanics observe the Emeriti top 3 provinces: build free in 6 ticks, great elite ratio, and a bunch of stuff I barely pay attention to.

    Again, things are multifunctional. The center belt isn't just capable of launching ops and sabotage, they have relative defense advantages that create difficulty for the enemy. You can't really massacre them from the top and expect to survive a chaining attempt. And from the lower levels you jeopardize the bulk of your army. Additionally the belt is center to the conflict as interpreted by nw which is kind of a bulk packaging of t/m firing arcs. In most kingdoms the t/ms occupy the top making them less effective vs the enemy bottom. In Freeakstyles case this is a no-brainer since any enemy that could survive the gauntlet of half a kingdom of t/ms might as well break the server.

    The center belt in top kingdoms is the stopgap when facing homogenous cores like that of Emeriti this age. What's interesting is that the Emeriti kingdom of this age is a flogger signature. Yet I remember flogger mentioning to them the idea of whoring vs winning wars. So the Emeriti design is pure flogger, whereas the A-Team design was A Mothers Advice design. And I repeat, the triad I observed was prominent in the ages when AMA was outnumbered by Absalom interested: a design that was built for top warring vs pure whoring kingdoms. While I mentioned this before, we have 2 specimens before us that hail to the ages of land crown prestige. The pure whoring kingdom is designed to yield maximum acres, while the triad is a slower whoring construct but superior in war vs a pure whoring set.

    Experimental Update

    I'm glad to be seeing this dwarf undead in action. I've been experiencing a brutal concentration of attacks mostly by humans. This is good because the impact of science can be monitored. My losses have been relatively heavy, as my enrmies are faster and scientifically superior. The good news is the dwarf undead build has sustained.

    So far, no CF has been offered. I'm reminded of one of my favorite scenes in cinematic history ~

    The Humungus: There has been too much violence. Too much pain. But I have an honorable compromise. Just walk away. Give me your pump, the oil, the gasoline, and the whole compound, and I'll spare your lives. Just walk away and we'll give you a safe passageway in the wastelands. Just walk away and there will be an end to the horror.

    The Next Day.

    My tally is roughly 4000 elites and 3000 mixed spec losses. I'm counting 23 attacks since May 21 YR 6 including several ops and sabotage.

    Losses on my part are generally high because most encounters begin with my full army home.

    Edit Today:

    Things are more interesting as we've been engaged by 2 kingdoms and some concerted orc participation from both sides against yours truly. I've not yet had the opportunity to march on the orcs, but look forward to the exchanges. One is a larger tac province that seems to be an enforcer. We've offered CF but my hope is they attempt to continue farming. Not many of us retal, which is inherent in ramshackle retirement ghettos.

    While I expect kingdoms to act in their best interests - meaning, I'm expecting more reprisals than I can retal with equal force - the experimentation can continue so long as they ignore the CF. Neither kingdom has a war win or any honor(game honor; I'm sure they're honorable people) to speak of, but they are a worthwhile step up, if only for their size advantage. I struck a dwarf mystic that attacked me first, but he's not showing a willingness to bang heads. Thus, I will honor his apparent decision to pass and let the orc take over.

    ( It's important to remind the reader that the kingdom I'm part in has no rules other than activity. While I'm still concerned about the welfare of my teammates, the premise of these experiments is to confirm that dwarf undead is capable of anchoring center nw. So far the build has proven itself despite a science deficit. The experiments have to be thorough in microcosm so they can be applied to TVKs greater strategic theater. If the dwarf undead can hold ground against all comers then the valance core has a reliable zone constable to rely on.)

    We have an ongoing conflict and I'm absorbing my fair share of damage. Humans certainly can dish out punishment and can bottle obscene nwpa. Still, I was able to both cast and steal vs a human sage today with admirable reliability.

    This is far from a conclusion as I'd imagine the player is highly concentrated in particular sciences. Additionally, the honor gains are not even scraps. There are no barons to attack and lots and lots of knights.

    Kingdoms are settling into stratas with less intermingling between skill levels and organization. The ghettos should note this because honor gains will yield a wackamole mindset from higher stratas. Yes this always goes on, but seems more linear this age. I'm afraid this offers us little choice but to crush one of the transgressing ghettos or be crushed. We both require a head to step on to move forward.

    TLDR, my dwarf undead was able to steal gold and runes and cast tornadoes with the stolen runes on a human sage. - oh, and my full army was hit at home and I countered him with trad and ambush. My target countered with an ambush of my ambush and his kingdom mate trad marched my province.

    After some 3 on 1 action we offered CF and our enemy accepted. I'm showing a loss of 3000 elites and an odd number of specs. The enemy launched a dragon so a correct fount of spec losses would be skewed. It was an honorable exchange and I got to see one of their players use some savvy tactics.
