What race / personality should i pick for new age?

If I have more defence then offence overall isn't it better to focus of DME rather than OME?

I was thinking of going halfling rogue for next age. Is this a good attacker thief choice?

If you want to play hybrid - elf is the answer. You can go mys(a/m), rogue(a/t) or here(a/t/m).

Depending on instinct. Let me put it this way; my build last age was dwarf undead and in consecutive conflicts my ability to cast and sabotage was met with massacres, but not defeat.

In most cases I'd have pressure from 2 targets and sometimes 3. The scenario would vary, but I'll reflect on 2.

In one case I concentrated my army on an elf mystic while using my casting and sabotage against a human sage. I was riddled with ops from the elf, but held dominion over the human sage.

In another case I opened against an elf sage who again hammered me with ops while using my casting and sabotage vs an avian tac. The avian tac engaged but my build was set while his was processing. He had great potential which I recognized and thus prioritized as a target.

Why does it work? First you can't get hung up on the pride of what works on what, or what should. In dismantling the notion of rival hybrids I know this: as undead I'm a plague risk and I'm unit to unit more durable. The key here is I can run a relatively small army to a full blown attacker yet still be able to break a t/m in my nw range. I've ranted about the idea of last ages 7/5 berserker elite and how to use that extra point total as a leverage. Nw efficiency be damned you want to use this singular strength to guide your allotment of thieves and wizards. But only with this build. Hybrid is very subjective with a multitude of variations.

I base the success of a build on how many enemies gather to kick my teeth in. So for me, hybrid is an action more than a build. There's value in the advice given, but just keep in mind that some of us are puzzle solvers. The beauty of elf is that it has that casting bonus for which is a great place to hang your hat, but don't overlook any combination. It all depends on what you dial up vs the target.

One of the most effective hybrids I found was the old undead sage. You'll note that amnesia was nerfed and racial undead is gone. It doesn't mean I broke the code, lol. It was in the balance of casting and daunting offense that made it a monster.

Edit: I finally glanced at changes and this is where I look:

    Elite: Offense: 5 Defense: 7 Networth: 9.5 Cost: 900

    And 7% population bonus.

Granted, I still have to review the entirety of changes to conclude a best practices hybrid, but these are fundamental elements. You add the defense and offense of the elite to learn where your leverage point is vs other races. I know it seems apishly simple, but this is the wellspring. Don't get distracted by nw efficiency as this was never a factor in my perseverance. So what, if the attacker is getting greater gains if I'm peeling his scalp off when the smoke clears? Choose wisely and good luck.

Hybrid is playstyle everyone can do it.

Picking a hybrid race = you can hybrid with a non-hybrid personality
Picking a hybrid personality = you can hybrid with a non-hybrid race
Picking a non-hybrid race = you can focus on your non-racial specialty = hybriding
Picking a non-hybrid personality = you can focus on your non-personality specialty = hybriding
tbh, everyone is hybriding.... even a A/T or A/M even a T/M is a hybrid.... and if you think about it everyone has defense, everyone has offense, everyone has thieves, everyone has wizards.

Now how good you are is how far you can touch all the above bases and still be effective.

but dont expect to be effective without learning how to play the style unless someone guides you or you learning each personality itself....

As for the opening question: it is a short age, (1 month) so pick something you want to try to experiment to see if it works.

Unfortunately that is true only if you limit yourself to available to everyone ops and spells. Slow wpa pump is also part of the problem.

Is waro hero best used with a race with defensive elites? So you optimise the use of the super offensive specialists.

A hybrid isnt suppose to be the one stop shop good vs everything, it is suppose to free up the specialists to do more focused dmg on more ideal harder targets while you finish up the trash. Assuming if you didnt pick a personality which is a T/M to hybrid, or say an Elf/Halfer that ups your WPA/TPA which either of them allows you to go vs mid-hardness targets.

    If you think about it:
What do mystics do when they have no more targets to MS? Usually FB or a debuff usually the spells which everyone has so it allows them to do other spells usually Chasity or something better or more focused FB. Slow WPA pump is workable being your not suppose to FB the mystic, but their attackers.
As for theivery you can NS/steal/Riots so that frees up rogues to do only do Prop/AW/GArson.

You can use it to try to convert your offence into defence as you grow, but usually your WPA/TPA drop as that happens and cant keep up, so your defence is likely to get mangled. Therefore majority of people think of it for promoting offensive elites instead.

I think dwarf WH is pretty appealing, though, it does both! If you start with a mostly specialist army, you end up promoting from 7/0 to 7/4, so there is no compromise your offence out of the gate, and your defence/turtle ability increases over time! Its claerly a popular pick with Avian this age as well

Tried warhero on Bocan 2 ages ago, while having the best offenses at the start of the war and beeing joint first for uniques, I even survived chains by ghetto kingdoms and ended up unbreakable or near unbreakable. However I ended up with very little offenses, so since the team failed to win the war while I was buying as much time as possible there was not much I could do after arround 3 days other than slowly try to increase offenses hoping to be left alone for me to get the ecconomy going, that was not allowed me.

The best you can do while converting off into def, even on a defensive race with thieve credits and some offensive points on elites is to try and buy enought time for your unchained kingdom fellors to win the war, if a core did this then targets would be limmited after a min time war.
Furthermore I think Carthage should be destroyed and Dryads brought back to the game

That's a top kingdom choice, which can be good. There's some honor formula, plus halfer craft, plus two way sapphire that's supposed to shine brightly.

I'm more an earth elemental and I'll be experimenting with halfer heretic myself. My thinking is more about garbage grinding, so it's cheap thieves plus ability to steal stuff like runes to cast. I already march with anything. If I could figure out a better rogue strategy in my virtual kingdom I'd shuffle halfers into some interesting positions.

I could anchor the zone strat with a halfer undead braced by 2 dwarf undead. It's just that specifically the dwarves free build is very undead friendly and halfer is too good to commit to marching bias. And this is only because I'm shy with economy deficits like elves and faeries deal with. Got to have a foraging economy to accomoidate the strat to make me feel comfortable.

As a stand alone in the dark ghetto I'll be pretty happy with halfer heretic, even though I have plague immunity OCD.
